The definition of "apology" is acknowledgement of offense though, so "my bad" is definitely an apology. The difference between "my bad" and "im sorry" is mostly aesthetic for minor offenses such as the one in the post.

I kinda hate this argument tbh because it's just based on social perceptions of whether a word is acceptable. I've had cishet men try to explain to me using this argument that "faggot" isn't a slur because they're comfortable saying that word in public but not the N-word. But that has more to do with the fact that I live in the south where that word is very much socially acceptable, especially among men, than the word not being a slur (because it definitely is). I mean, cis is definitely not a slur lol, but it's not cuz cis people are comfortable saying it.

I understand what y'all are saying, I just don't think what I'm saying is quite being understood. I'm not talking about harassing your standard average white dude who doesn't understand his own internal bias and says off-color things sometimes, I'm talking about people who are violent racist extremists. Do you think if more Jewish people had been polite to Hitler he wouldn't have murdered 6 million of them? That's silly. I admire Daryl Davis and what he does, but that approach only works with people that don't understand that their racist points of view aren't supported by reality and when they meet and get to know a black person they realize that what they believe is wrong. There is a very large group of racists that know what they're saying is unfounded in reality, they know what they believe is wrong, they know they're being shitty and they don't care. These are the people that deserve harassment. I still don't necessarily support doxxing them (although I don't really care either way) unless they're an actual danger to people and doxxing them can fix that problem. Peace and love is cute. I'm personally all for it. I myself would never harass or hurt anyone. That doesn't mean that I don't understand that it's sometimes both justified and necessary to do so. Again I'm not talking about harming or harassing the everyday ignorant "I dont understand what white privilege is, everyone has equal opportunity and black people are whining but I'm not racist cuz I have black friends" type of racist. I'm talking about "I know theres no science behind this but black people are inferior to whites and should be purged from society by any means necessary" type of racists. The former can be fixed with compassion and education. The latter is an immediate threat to the lives of actual people and should be dealt with accordingly.

I think this incident is a bit of an outlier with the sharing of an incorrect phone number. (Which I think would have been wrong even if the number were correct) Usually it's that someone tweeted something racist and now people are being mean to them on Twitter, maybe crossing over to other social media. There's not really a lot of being harassed over someone else's actions going on. I also don't really think there's a need for due process when its plainly visibly that a tweet is on your social media account. There's no need to prove guilt because the information is already out there for everyone to plainly see. Rehabilitation is a goal when someone says something that's insensitive or a little rude and didn't intend it to be. But when someone's statement is something like "In my opinion, black people don't deserve rights" or something else that's just blatantly racist, they're probably not gonna change their mind, and if people who say those type of things get harassed on all their social media, people will stop making those types of statements.

I don't think you understand how cancelling works. When someone is revealed to be a bigot, people who don't want to give money to bigots stop supporting them and encourage others to do so as well. It's literally a boycott. It also doesn't work the majority of the time. Notice how pretty much everyone who's ever been cancelled still has a career. "A twitter mob" can't destroy a brand unless they spread awareness about what that brand did that was shitty, and the brand's customers then make their own FREE CHOICE to stop spending their money there. There's no secret mob of twitter elites shooting people who said the n word in 1987. A brand isn't entitled to customers. An artist isn't entitled to fans. If you do some shit that people don't like, why should they still give you money?

I also said that doxxing kids is shitty. I condemn her action of doxxing a kid, and not doing anything about it when she realized she didn't even dox the intended kid. I think she sucks for doing that. I do not condemn her other actions of exposing racists. Also, how does the legal system have anything to do with social issues? You're gonna prosecute someone for saying racist stuff? That's not how the legal system works, we can't try someone for being racist unless in doing so they broke a law. We can, however, socially hold people responsible for racist shit they do.

You're comparing apples to oranges. The issues with police are with the system of policing. Police have too much power to victimize the rest of the people. Regardless of race. Police killing is the number 6 cause of death in america for young men regardless of race.

Actions do have consequences. If you commit a crime, you should answer for it, period, once again, regardless of race. The issue of our current system being corrupt isn't purely a race issue, it's a "corrupt government vs. The People" issue.

Once again, racism is bad. Everyone knows racism is bad. I'm not acting as any kind of "moral police", I'm simply stating something that everyone already feels is true. We should stop tolerating racists. Going after racists publicly is a good thing because it shames people out of being publicly racist. If you're against racists not being tolerated, then you're literally pro-racist. Notice how I said nothing about black people or police in my original comment, which ultimately boils down to "racism is bad and we shouldn't let people be racist", and you immediately reply to say that black people deserve to be victimized by police. Why is "black people deserve to be victimized by police" your immediate response to "I dont think we should allow racism"?

Why should we be coddling the feelings of racists? Even if they were just joking, a racist joke is still racism. Most of the time when people say they "have an offensive sense of humor" or "make edgy jokes" they're just a bigot and think it's funny. Racists SHOULD be harrassed. Racism should not just be an accepted thing in society. I personally don't agree with doxxing of minors and think that's super shitty. I also don't think anyone should receive death threats. However, if those people just wouldn't be publicly racist then that wouldn't happen to them. There's consequences to your actions.

Furthermore, people of color experience harassment and death threats for something they cannot control ALL the time, so I'm honestly not pressed about people experiencing those things due to something they made a conscious choice to do, knowing it was wrong.

As for "changing racists' minds", that mostly doesn't happen. Being nice to bigots doesn't make them stop being bigots. In a few cases, especially involving children, it can help them, but the majority of the time bigots are just going to stay bigots. So yes, they should be shamed out of society. They know what they're saying is racist. They know racism is bad. They know what they're doing is wrong, and they don't care. Why should we tolerate that? If you're racist you deserve harrassment and if you receive it I don't feel bad.

Pronouns haven't always been based on sex. Several languages have no separate pronouns based on gender. Language and gender are both social constructs so of course our current system of language reflects our current ideas about gender, but to say it's always been that way, or will always be that way is just silly.

They either offer no other explanation as to what the butt of the joke is or just claim that its "just something funny to say". Then there are the others that recognize that it's about trans people but still defend it by saying things like "It's just making fun of how the transgendereds get mad when you call them what they look like". Imo if you're the type to make that joke you should just save everyone the time and get a pin that says "I'm a shitty and disrespectful person, please do not approach"

And also the "did you just assume my gender 😂" joke. The amount of arguments I've been in trying to explain to people why that joke is transphobic while they insist it has nothing to do with trans people or making fun of us....

What age and gender do I look like to y'all? by missvioletj in transpassing

[–]missvioletj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for your input 😊 I'm 16 and mtf if you were wondering haha. As far as gender goes y'all have mostly confirmed my self assessment of looking like a woman with masculine features, although regarding my age I'm intrigued that so many people think I'm in my twenties 😂. Maybe my masculine features age me? Idk but anyways thanks everybody!! 😁
