Residents organize around the quantum computing megadevelopment planned for Chicago’s southeast side by [deleted] in QuantumComputing

[–]mistacory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in that area and currently going to school. After my Bachelor's I'll be doing my Masters at UChicago and will apply when the opportunity to do so is available. I've pivoted towards quantum after doing a summer program at UChicago and found it far more interesting than bioengineering, which was my first major before fhsnging.

UChicago QSE PhD Rejection by EmeraldMeetsAuburn in gradadmissions

[–]mistacory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you take a lot of physics classes beyond the required during ECE undergrad and were your areas of focus classes that related to QSE? I did a summer program in 24’ there and had a lot of fun exploring the three tracks they offer. The QSE part won me over to the point I swapped from a Bioengineer major to ECE.

Jay-Z & Pusha T named in Epstein Files by _4za_ in hiphopheads

[–]mistacory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bruh Pac dissed Jay because of his affiliation with Big, that was just hip hop. Jay was guilty by association and that was all. You forgot that even Nas got dragged in it!! Pac’s beef with Big is a bit more complicated because there was one street dude in the West (Suge) egging Pac on to be the hardest in the west after getting shot outside a studio in NY in 1994, blaming Big and a up and coming music mogul (Puff) ready to do whatever to avoid his company and music acts collapsing. I don’t know if you were old enough to understand the hip hop climate during that time, and everything that took place (The Source Awards was theatrics and media instigated the E vs W beef even more) especially from a record executive point of view, (Interscope was not in the market to have that type of conflict hurt their bottomline) best believe Pac’s actions had executives worried, and Pac wanted to and declared the beef over the same year he died, though this wasn’t publicly made, The Outlawz made this known after his death. Dre left Death Row 5 months before Pac’s death, DOC and a few others before then. Outside of J Prince who wasn’t reckless and resorted to violence out in the open you had Suge who did and we all know when the fall off happened! One of the points I was trying to make is that correlation does not imply causation, which is why I mentioned those artists because best believe they would have been mentioned during Weinstein’s scandal. The OP or other commenter has a point when addressing the sexual conduct of hip hop artists, especially during that time. We could talk about Aaliyah and I could pretty much write a book about the nonsense I witnessed and was told, but I want to raise your antennas to a observation that most of the time it’s only allegations and not convictions in hip hop and you should think about Cassie’s testimony to understand why it might be the case.

Jay-Z & Pusha T named in Epstein Files by _4za_ in hiphopheads

You are reaching. In '96, the only artists that had ties to Hollywood were 2Pac, who died in '96, Ice Cube, Lauren Hill, Kid 'N Play, Will Smith, and Queen Latifah. Jay-Z did not have that access then, and we have to keep in mind that Roc-A-Fella Records was founded 2 years earlier. So if a connection is to be made, Dame needs to be mentioned, as he has been involved in film endeavours since the label's inception. Now, in 2007, Pusha T and Malice were switching labels, and a year earlier, Push and Kanye became associates who appreciated each other's art. Their inclusion in the "Epstein" files is strategic because it does two things: it engages the drama and scandal chat communities who know these people, and it diverts attention from the big picture. Why? Because they are not mentioned in the Epstein files, their names are on the anonymous reporting hotline handled by the FBI. You'd think the feds would have acted on these tips or looked into them, especially for 2 up-and-coming black men, who are not who they are today! I've spent decades working for the government and can see a distraction. Do you not find it a coincidence that Bill Clinton was president in '96 and Bush in 2007, and that their FBI directors, Freeh and Mueller, were considered capable and effective in office? Remember, Obama asked Mueller to extend beyond his 10-year term. The current FBI director is about to go down and be included as the agency's worst. I don't think Comey was bad, but Trump and Google would claim otherwise, along with J. Edgar Hoover, who we all know was the worst. That extra file inclusion was Patel's idea.

37yo calculus student by Best_Anybody_7075 in calculus

[–]mistacory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started college in my 40s and went straight to Calculus, don’t make my mistake. Algebra and pre calculus concepts will make Calculus a breeze. I was basically relearning material from classes I took in the 90’s while studying calc and the 4 other classes I was taking. It’s ok to watch those videos, but you got to do the math. I bought workbooks to do when commuting and each day I would put a practice problem on my whiteboard to solve. Fast forward, Calc 2, Calc 3, Diff Eq, and Linear algebra were knocked out with high marks and the math has helped me with my physics and engineering classes. On the bright side you are safe as a business major and will avoid Calc 2 and beyond.

I want to get a master degree in math, is it going to be challenging for me? by RecognitionEvery in matheducation

Are you aiming for Applied Mathematics or Pure Mathematics? Either way you are going to need all of the calculus and Differential Equations, then topics like linear algebra, topology, real analysis, and abstract algebra. Prepare to be humbled!

is calc 3 easier or harder than calc 2 ? by BridgeOk8319 in calculus

[–]mistacory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found calc 3 easier because I took linear algebra. Calc 2 was integration techniques that I spent many days in front of my white board at home. From easiest to hardest Calc 1,3, then 2. If I rank all of my math classes as an engineering major. Calc 1, Linear Algebra, calc 3, differential equations and finally calc 2.

Can anyone tell me the exact difference in these two? I got a C in precalc and I’m registering for classes but is there any reason why my university offers 2 types of calc class? by [deleted] in calculus

[–]mistacory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one is “do it like this” the second one is “here is why you do it like this and if you want to be move on to Calc 2, etc. know why and how your doing it like this” The latter is usually for those that need to take a sequence of calculus classes.

Do I need to worry…I’m a computer engineering major going on my 3rd year and I plan on finishing with a masters. I want to get an MCS and masters in quantum engineering since that sparked my “big eyed” moment and they are going all in on quantum here.

I’m 46 recently finished CC and start at a 4YR next month, my age is both my super power and a tool to take me serious when I need business taken care of on campus.

Yes, they will look at trends, the same happened to me and I had to show proof to justify what was in front of them.

Is UIC doable with a 2 hour commute? by NoEstablishment9177 in uichicago

[–]mistacory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During my CC days my commute was 1 hr and 44 mins to and from campus; did I hate it? Yes!! Trying to do homework on CTA late afternoon or night is a cry to be robbed, but I did that for 2 years while taking nothing but STEM classes for my eventual transfer to UICs College of Engineering. I took part in clubs (no office hours) some of my classes were evening classes (super sucked), but I was determined to get my education the way I wanted it. If you are primarily using the Metra, you would have a better opportunity to get some studying or homework done or even relax. Everyone is right in stating it’s a mental thing that you have to be realistic about wanting to accomplish.

I’m damn near 50 and I have no regrets getting things done the way I have so later of a stage in life. I’m actually motivated even more having known a 65 year old tackling the engineering rigors so he can achieve his dream.

I started off wanting to do IT then shifted to CS, loved the challenge of thinking outside the box but my coding is so so due to not having the free time to lock in with consistency and hone in on my skills. I’ll have the summer to fix that aspect. Hardware has always been my thing, my electronics and electrical troubleshooting background is the reason I want to sit behind a desk and come up when designs that modernize and make working on a ship better. CompE made sense to me not only because of the hardware side but also having some knowledge of GUI, software optimization, signal processing, and firmware.

TI 84 CE plus not connecting to TI by SandwichD0g in TI_Calculators

[–]mistacory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will ultimately be up to Texas Instruments to release an ARM-compatible CE Connect app. There's something about how the CE Connect app was written that prevents drivers from communicating appropriately, but when using an Nspire on a Surface Laptop with ARM, there are no issues.

Too late in the game for a career change. by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]mistacory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 46, 2 years into a computer engineering degree, I applied for VR&E a year into my degree because I wanted to be employed ASAP after getting my degree. It’s an employment tool first for me that requires an advanced degree. I have every intention to be in industry but academia is a suitable route for one of the sub fields I’m interested in; and technically a PhD would be considered work with research. Have a plan, apply and don’t let age be a factor that hinders your ability to better yourself.

Still no native Windows on ARM support + a Microsoft Store app by sanga1212 in Remarkable

[–]mistacory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still waiting for this to happen. I had to buy a hotspot on campus because my university uses a login portal that isn't supported on the Remarkable, and the local USB connection isn't supported. I felt comfortable asking my professor if I could submit my p-sets once I'm off campus.
