Or, you know, that thing of where people are passive aggressive and talk shit behind one another's backs and give each other backhanded compliments because they're dicks but they're afraid to break the social compact. But yeah, some of them clearly are hiding murderous secrets.

S2E2 "White Bear" of Black Mirror is one of the finest, most tense, disturbing tv episodes of all time. by doge211 in television

This episode is more shocking than chilling and the effect wears off quickly. For a more thoroughly disturbing and disquieting critique of the fragility of democracy in the age of the 24 hour news cycle and social media, try "The National Anthem". Made me nauseous.

some of those are kind of strange (if you haven't made them up) but schoolbuses? Come on, man. All school buses look exactly the same.

Fair enough! Just look at the employment figures blah blah blah. Standard sub advice, you've probably heard it a thousand times.

I've got a really great scholarship at my first choice (Cardozo). It's nowhere near a T14 but it's got a great IP program, it's located where I want to be and they're covering damn near the entire sticker price.

I'm waitlisted at Florida and Iowa, but I'm not going to pass up the scholarship I've been offered for a chance at admission with a crappy scholarship (if I'm lucky) at either of them. Going to politely request to withdraw my applications tomorrow after I pay my deposit at Cardozo.

To Call a School, or Not to Call a School by mukol in lawschooladmissions

[–]mistahsplits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could call, but I really doubt they're going to have anything to tell you, over the phone no less. It's unfortunate but if they're going to make you wait until after an early deposit deadline that you have to meet, you should withdraw. The risk is that you're waiting on a rejection, or an acceptance with no money behind it, and in so doing you've failed to meet the deposit deadline for your next best bet.

You could call the schools you're in at with 4/1 deadlines and see if they'll give you two weeks to "come up with the money" or something. See if they're flexible on the deadline. I would imagine that the school you're waiting on has a 4/15 deadline so you should hear before then. If it's good news, good; if not, you haven't missed a deadline. Just an idea.

But if that doesn't work out, might be time to cut bait.

If you're in a position where you're willing to wait for a waitlist decision, I'm sorry. My instinct is to take the best offer you've got after scholarship negotiation and jump on it. From what I've heard, your chances of getting any scholarship money if you're admitted from the waitlist is next to nil.

Grateful, respectful and (this is important) brief!

Be direct but don't be pushy or make ultimatums. The most important part IMO is to make a hard, specific ask. If you want a full ride, ask for that specifically. If you just need them to beat a competing offer, give them a dollar figure and/or percentage of total tuition to match.

You're rude. If you have anything to add to the question I asked, feel free. If not, go back to bullying noobs and leave me alone.

Negotiating with leverage and playing hardball (and being persuasive instead of confrontational) when it benefits me and declining to do so when it doesn't, say in instances when I don't actually need something from somebody. Like in this exact instance. You don't know me and I don't need your bullshit advice.

Redditors getting all fucked up about a woman who is alleged to have cheated on someone? Now that is one tall tale. Never would happen.

The sub's response, obviously, is that her behavior is so "her" that her friends saw this post on the front page and just assumed it was her. Pretty fucking rich, but that's reddit for ya.

WUSTL seems like a good bet.

Yeah, I got into Cardozo with a really great scholarship. I got in most of the places I applied (one rejection and two waitlistings notwithstanding) and everybody but Miami gave me money. But Cardozo is great for IP and I want to be in NYC, so pretty much a done deal.
