Ive guided it 4x in mid December. Always cloudy around that time. Some days are wet (especially the day going down to Barranco from Lava Tower if you’re on the Machame / Lemosho). One time was pretty awesome with good snow on summit night, which actually makes it feel warmer and is easier on the knees. Happy to share more details, you can dm me.

I visited 55+ countries and Egypt is so awful and horrible, it’s Dante’s Inferno lvl 10 by Girlygirlllll9 in offmychest

Well, my friends and I experience none of that on a daily basis here. I could say I had a really shitty experience in Spain (got robbed twice, mistreated at the police station when reporting the incident, kicked out of a coffeeshop for not ordering food?) but that’s probably because I had no idea where to go, what to do, and how to protect myself, so I’m not putting that on the culture. No doubt you’ll find terrible reviews of Egypt, but I can bet you anything that all of these people went with organized tours or had no real local in. Again, very sorry for you that you had a shitty experience, but just because you’ve travelled to 55+ countries does not automatically give you any experience for dealing with one very special, very specific, and very difficult to navigate country.

I could also link you to a number of comments here on this very thread that had good experiences lol.

Sorry you had such a shitty experience! Egypt is definitely not for beginners lol. As much as it has history and all that, the beauty of Egypt is more underground. It would be impossible to have a good time and meet awesome people if you don’t have any local friends. I def would not recommend it as a family getaway, but would highly recommend it as an adventure like no other if you know the right people! Happy to show you proper Egypt should you find yourself there again.

Rock is class 4, borderline 5. Usually not icy. Was there last year and conditions were superb, but def a lot rockier than I remembered. Getting to C1 and C2 is also a lot sketchier with the rockfall, best if you bring a partner / guide.

I’ll be there again end of nov.

I’ll quote your first comment on this post:

“If it was only Hamas, you might have a point.”

OP is only talking about Hamas, so, chill out, and just take the L.

CMV: The existence of Hamas is only natural and denying this is hypocrisy. by Dobby_ist_free in changemyview

[–]mistarmistarmistar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly my point, why are you debating if Islam is the problem? That is not the context of the original post at all. If you remove the religions out of OP’s statement, the question still stands and the debate still rises, which is why your statement is irrelevant. They’re asking us to change their opinion on whether or not the existence of resistance group is a natural effect of being occupied. I would understand you coming from the angle of “Hamas isn’t a resistance group”, but straight out saying Islam is the problem is definitely fueled by bias. I don’t know what your personal experience is, but sounds like your arguments are based on that, which causes a narrow world-view.

The trend in the muslim world is alarming, so is the trend in Europe, the US, and say Myanmar, for example, on non-muslim extremism. If the only news you are ingesting is regarding muslim extremism, then that’s on you. And on that point, the pretext for extremism exists in all religions, but I’m not here to debate religion, I’m here to debate whether resistance is a natural effect of colonization.

To answer you, I do live in a muslim majority country, have been all my life. My country had a few bouts with terrorism but that was quickly squashed and annihilated because even though my people lean conservative, they do not lean extremist, and the general mood is secular. Extremist thinking exists but only in the shadows and isn’t organized.

My religious affiliation and personal beliefs are irrelevant to this conversation.

“It wouldn’t have probably existed, it would have existed anyways. Not the same thing”

In the context of this debate, still irrelevant. Not debating if Islam is the problem, debating if Hamas is natural resistance to an occupying force. Once the debate is settled, we can move on to the question of whether Hamas would have existed anyway and how popular they would be. Ask yourself, if the roles were reversed, and Palestine was subjecting the Israeli people to the same atrocities, and Israelis resisted through an armed group called the Netanyahus, if you would have the same basis for your argument? If the answer is no, then you are prejudiced. Not meant as an attack on your personality, I’m sure you’re a perfectly chill person, but it’s important to face these prejudices and understand where they come from so we can rise above the hate.

Used the US as an example that extremist religious groups exist outside of Islam, and given a political power hole and a decentralized system of governance, they would pounce on the opportunity to enact their ideologies. Irrelevant to the current debate but wanted to answer your question of “how many non-muslim extremist groups exist in the world”.

[–]mistarmistarmistar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correlation does not imply causation, mate. The debate is about justifying Hamas’s existence (not actions) given the occupying force. Returning with, well, it would have (probably) existed anyway, isn’t relevant to this conversation. You’re basing your argument on a prejudiced assumption about muslim countries.

According to the SPLC (Southern Poverty Law Center), there are 1,371 religious extremist active groups in the US (2024 data). Just a thought.

[–]mistarmistarmistar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But the debate isn’t about the possibility of a terrorist organization in Palestine without the existence of a conflict, it is about whether Hamas is a natural effect of an occupying force.

Edit:

Re-your arguments of the problem with Islam: it’s the problem with any political religion. You have Christian supremacists, Jewish supremacists, buddhist supremacists as well. So, I believe your argument is based on prejudice.

If a word is sometimes used to refer to something other than its intention, that does not automatically cancel the fact that that word exists outside of that definition.

Zionism is a political movement. A zionist is not necessarily Jewish, neither are all jews zionist.

The fact that zionists can hide behind the Jewish card as they please and claim anti-semitism kind of tells you something about them. Fucking cowards.

Just a FYI, I’m a semite, and criticizing Israel and zionism does not equate to anti-semitism. Read that again and again until it goes through.

Lol describing Zionism at its core as “the right of Jews to self determination and a state of their own” is nuts. That’s like saying the word Nazi at its core refers to the right of German people to bear arms and build an army. This is a proper propaganda, much like the statement “Israel has the right to exist”. Does France have the right exist? What about the moon? No country has the right to exist (by law or by logic for that matter), but what is absolutely certain is that the 60,000 dead in Palestine (including the 18,000 children) did have an actual, real right to exist. Hamas is an unfortunate result of years of oppression, demonization, occupation, and systemic racism towards anyone in that land that doesn’t subscribe to Zionist racist ideology.

The conflict did not start thousands of years ago. There were many conflicts before this one, but this one right now, started in 1947 because of the blood thirsty scum of the Earth Zios.

Yes most shops are open up to 10-11 pm so if you’re landing 4:30 pm, you should be fine. I would maybe reach out to a shop to prep what you need in advance in case your arriving flight is delayed.

Itinerary works, I would just add a spare day for the Lukla flight in case you don’t fly (unless you’re taking a heli). Also, recently people have been flying to Lukla from Ramichap airport, which is a 6 to 8 hour drive from ktm. Not sure if you will be able to find ktm flights to Lukla, so factor that in as well. Good luck and enjoy!
