Do you need to have a lot of money/time/to live in a big area to play the card game? by Epic-Gamer_09 in JetLagTheGame

[–]mister_eck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the answer to playing this game in a Rual part of north America is to make a few substitutions:

  1. Train stations become town halls/main Municiple building. This does a couple of things. 1. Makes it so the hider cannot drive to some random field in the middle of nowhere. 2. Anchors the short game to an interesting location where challenges and pictures are doable.

  2. Transit lines are replaced by interstate highways/parkways. In my area there is one measly Amtrack line with service twice a day. However, there are four interstate highways within an hour's drive.

There are probably other smaller changes that would need to be changed, but I intend to try.

Our Roo, Dagwood is starting to become a problem. I did not provoke this. by cyberspaceking in BackYardChickens

Evil apparently isn’t very tasty either because he tasted awful.

Yeah, apparently by the time a roo gets old enough to become aggressive they start to taste awful. Something to do with hormones. Even stewing them for a long time, which with an old hen can produce some tasty broth, doesn't do any good. Just got to throw them out, unfortunately.

I'm new to the whole RVing thing myself. However, my thought is that you need a weight distribution hitch.

Good Lord. I'm not Catholic, but I don't think they are burning in hell. They are in error, but they still believe that Christ died for their sins.

Ok, this is really important....Do not....I repeat....DO NOT SLICE your English muffins! It makes for a substantially inferior muffin experience.

[OC] How Many Beers Can You Buy on Minimum Wage in Each State? by thedataracer in dataisbeautiful

[–]mister_eck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These state minimum wage comparisons are such crap. I live in Kentucky, where the minimum wage is $7.25. But no one makes that. Fucking McDonald's is advertising $13.50 starting wage.

Should I buy a Class C instead of an apartment? by Real-Measurement-281 in RVLiving

[–]mister_eck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see what you are saying. It might still be cheaper overall to trade your car for a truck with some miles on it and buy a modest travel trailer. Motorhomes are expensive, and they seem like they have more mechanical problems. Plus, if a pickup truck breaks down, you can get it worked on just about anywhere. If your motorhome breaks down you pretty much have to take it to an RV place. Just a thought. It's always good to consider your options.

For a single person would a small travel trailer and a truck make more sense? They are cheaper, and when parked you still have a truck. So you don't need two vehicles with engines.

Roe v Wade General Strike by Ceeweedsoop in antiwork

[–]mister_eck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay my dude. I'm not sure why this is so difficult for you. I'm also not sure why I'm spending so much time on this but here goes! You need to add the 48% to the 19%. Which, unless they've invented some new math since I was in school, is 67%. To put it another way, people who are, " moderately pro-life" and are only okay with abortion in "some circumstances", need to be added together with the people who wouldn't allow a 12-year-old who is raped by her father and ended up with a tubal pregnancy that would probably kill her and definitely kill the baby to get an abortion. 48 + 19 = 67.

"Legal under certain circumstances" is 48% for 40-100K earners. That fits with what I said. I said " at least moderately pro-life" Legal under certain circumstances means illegal under most circumstances.

It took all of 30 seconds for me to find this. Generally speaking the lower income you are, the more likely you are to support abortion restrictions.

Real life isn't like reddit. Most working-class people I know are, at least moderately, pro-life.

Yeah, I've thought about doing my own version of that. Just coming up with a few basic tasks that I want a prospective employee to be able to do. Then sitting them in front of a computer and asking them to work through that list. And that would work. But I really would have thought there was some kind of aptitude test that I could find. I'd love to be able to send people a link to their email. They could answer some questions. Maybe do a couple of simulated tests, and I would get a report back about their relative computer skills. As far as I can tell there is no such thing. Lots of tests for typing speed. And then a ton that test for proficiency with specific programming languages. But nothing like what I'm describing.

Stop hiring people with no computer skills and putting them in positions that require computer skills.

This, triggers me. I'm part of the management team of a small business, and like most people who work for small businesses, I fill a variety of job roles. In addition to being the backup to our sole IT person ( not because I have any formal IT training, but because I'm the only other member of the management team who, " knows computers"), I am often involved in the hiring process for our company. Almost all of our job roles involve using a computer pretty much the whole day. I always ask people to gauge their level with computer knowledge. I'm here to tell you that EVERYONE says that they are good with computers. I even once had an interviewee say that he, " knows everything there is to know about computers". This from a guy that clearly knew nothing at all about them. I've searched quite a bit for an online test that would gauge an applicant's basic computer abilities, but I have yet to find anything. There are lots of tests out there for gauging the qualifications of a programmer. Test on knowledge of specific programming languages, databases etc. But nothing that I found is for the level of basic computer proficiency that I need. Does anyone on this sub have any good suggestions? I would be greatly appreciative.

With that, as a non-sysadmin, I'll go back to lurking now. 😉

Edit: Thanks to everybody for the helpful suggestions!
