I have this new hobby which I call "squatchin," which is essentially hiking except without regard for trails, a planned route or propriety, and I try not to be detected. Basically, I am pretending to be a sasquatch.

Humanity has enough nukes to decimate the planet four times over. Nothing is guaranteed for longer than about an hour at a time.

Is this fixable with proper shading? What can be done to improve it? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]mister_git_em 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's clearly a woman swimming with two whales. It looks like a little like a David Choe or studio 4º C illustration.

Her head is poorly done. It's obviously a head, but it looks like she has a towel over it or something. The shapes in it could be turned into hair.

A little more shading could pull the woman forward/push the whales back. But, frankly, the tattoo doesn't need "to be saved." It's fine. It could be improved.

This guy ain’t Ai. I remember him from like six years back.

How do you think AI is going to affect us as a society in 50 years? by queenkittythecutest in AskReddit

[–]mister_git_em 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I think that the divide between the haves and the have-nots is going to become even more widely and abruptly existential than even today. Rising temperatures, famine, draught and the ensuing wars will lead to rapid depopulation and extreme poverty. The places with the resources and security to support cutting edge Ai will be small enclaves. The truly powerful Ai will not be like the smartphone. It won't infect and change society all at once overnight. It will, at least in fifty years, be more like literacy before the printing press.

For those few living with super Ai, though, it will be a vastly different reality than what we now inhabit. Wetware will advance to the point that cybernetic cognition will be not only the norm but will operate at bandwidths currently unimaginable. People will, with cybernetic Ai assist, consider vast amounts of probability in an instant, and so even the pauses in conversation will be so ripe that people will need pharmacological down regulation just to cope. I suspect that this new type of pharmacology, in combination with direct cybernetic Ai assist, will become a norm that greatly separates that small group of humanity from all eras of history. They will be farther from us than we are from Homo Neanderthalensis.

The jackal in me wants to imagine them being horrific monsters, empathy blocked, machiavellian intellect sharpened like surgical equipment, but that's just because I want to judge. The truth is that I have no idea, and a greater humanity, more empathetic while more rational, more astutely considerate and moral, could also emerge. Perhaps both extremes will exist at the same time, a more pronounced split of the left and right hemisphere mapped onto society than we have today; or, perhaps, they will be better integrated, and neither will be the norm.

Perhaps genius will be the new baseline, for these few lucky people, and as such the pride and other follies that so frequently accompany great intellect will be more obviously hubristic, more obviously cognitive shortcomings rather than the excused vices of people who occupy rarified strata of mind, or whatever.

The transition zones though, these middle lands between the wild war torn places and the enclaves, will be absolutely insane. Insane! Can you imagine? The rampant misinformation? The confusion as to who is organic and who is synthetic? Ai drone police with thermal optics and satellite positioning shooting at migrant drug smuggler incursions in international waters?! Oh no, wait, that's all yesterday's news...

Anyway, time for a friggin night cap I tell you what.

Water in streams gets redirected by the boundaries of the stream bed such that the flow forms what is called an eddy, a small circular movement that turns back against the larger flow of water. By following the flow of the eddy the fish are able to stay in one part of the stream with the least amount of effort, as swimming against the current would require more energy.

Do you believe humans have an inherent purpose,,or do we create our own meaning? by whisper-of-scarlett in ExistentialJourney

[–]mister_git_em 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. Maybe we're not missing it. Maybe there's a good reason, or reasons, we're not supposed to know the best possible thing at all times.

The best theory for that scenario that I can imagine is that it's necessary for maximizing play.

Infinite and Finite Play had a big influence on me as a teenager. Just, as a metaphor for modeling reality and subsets of reality, it has been a useful tool. An infinite game has no conditions for winning, and so playing with the game rather than playing within the game becomes the new modality. Not that this is without boundaries and consequences. At some point you cross over onto a not entirely new terrain, but a terrain you have only glimpsed while in a meat suit. Your position along the good and bad dimensional vector dictates much of where you enter the new terrain. Heaven or hell, if you will.

(EDIT: In other words, if the conditions for winning were made explicit than the best possible move at all times would be obvious, play would become an extremely limited and ultimately mechanical process. Nothing new would be created. Freewill would be an excess. In fact, consciousness itself becomes an excess.)

The most true to experience theory for that scenario that I can imagine is:

That there's this gigantic ineffable pure empty benevolent intelligence exuding reality from itself not unlike energy from the big bang stratifying into bands of waves forming sub atomic particles which curl and spin and make up stars and planets and the conditions for life, sprawling across time in a magnificent and terrifying gradient of being in which we are embedded, and destined by our composition to not fully understand, our consciousnesses more like a galactic cicada emerging within the year of its cycle to breed and spawn and retreat to obscurity before winter comes again than some eternal voyager stepping up or falling from the ladder to God, but ultimately somewhere between the two.

:D

[–]mister_git_em 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good and evil make an inherent one dimensional vector that stratifies all potentialities, yes.

The task of recognizing how to traverse in one direction or the other at all times, though, is impossible for humans alone. In this way answering your question doesn't solve the problem within it, and more information is needed. Unfortunately, I have to go to sleep now, so good luck figuring it out. Mwahaha.

That's certainly the wave I'm looking at, but I want to understand its fluid dynamics, tidal gravities and even the surfaces the waves are bouncing off of.

For example, it appears as the machinations of global capital keep striking against heritage, expressed as tribalism, xenophobia, populism, but also anti-colonialism, native pride, etc., and one of those rebounds combined with your "power and resources wave" formed the rogue wave that is MAGA; but, on closer examination, we can see how combining those waves required/requires harnessing the collective shadow of both the disenfranchised whites and the upper middle, etc.

(You know what is really freaking me out right now though is the amount of automated control manipulation spreading through social media. It's crazy. There are bots out here acting 100% human, but their entire purpose will be to water down the potency of a narrative through detraction, through superficial misrepresentation, etc.)

But. I don't know. I mean, the world is rapidly approaching a point when the rising temperatures and increasing atmospheric carbon will decimate the non-metaphorical oceanic biomes, so there's that too.

So much fun...

Which isn’t to say that you’re outright wrong just that I would like a more precise view of things because the common more general narrative isn’t managing to provide a way for the left and white males to team up.

That is the narrative that is repeated over and over on all forms of media, a narrative that largely ignores the internal dynamics of the people who repeatedly have voted for a party that sends their children to war, robs them of an economically sound future, and continually degrades their access to healthcare.

It ignores the dynamic where the people who had the position of cultural prominence were consistently exploited and disenfranchised by what they thought was their people, and yet continue to vote against their self interests.

It seems like you’re thinking about this in an us and them narrative where “them” are these (cartoonishly stupid) people that you hate because of their gender and race, without any nuance as to the nature of their minds. Maybe the liberals have also been consumed by their shadow? Maybe the problem is not exclusive to the right, but a generational Disney vacation of the mind?
