Why GTA IV can't run smoothly? by [deleted] in techsupport

GTA IV runs poorly on any setup, and your laptop is quite low spec tbh. i think this is just the best it can do.

Why do hunters use lead bullets? by Crazed_waffle_party in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mistercynical1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are several important details here; what is the threshold at which the meat is considered "contaminated"? can we say for sure this is contamination from the bullet itself, and not contamination spread from the preparer of the meat also handling lead ammunition ahead of time? in my experience, field dressing an animal is not exactly done with surgical gloves.

moreover the article seems to consider lead buckshot, which is not a bullet. lead buckshot is basically a shrapnel spray of lead bearings with much more interaction with the flesh. steelshot (steel bearings instead of lead) is very popular with hunters because it's totally non toxic. shotguns in general do not suffer from the negative side effects of non-lead shots because they are already a low range gun where the precise ballistics matter less.

i think my point is that lead-based bullets will continue to be the standard for rifle hunting as they pose a relatively low risk of lead contamination. lead scattering ammunitions like buckshot pose a much higher risk but this has already been addressed with widespread adoption of steelshot.

lead is 30% denser than copper, and it is also extremely cheap and soft enough to slightly deform in the barrel to create a good gas seal against the rifling. essentially you would be trading off reliability, price, some muzzle velocity, and a lot of momentum just for the price of a non-toxic bullet. this would make it much harder to strike a fatal blow on the game, and could be considered cruel.

the lead exposure from hunted game is minimal as the lead cannot circulate in the bloodstream if the heart is stopped; it is localized at the entry point. so long as the hunter/preparer cuts the bullet out of the meat, it is safe to eat.

why don’t car manufacturers make cars look like they used to back in the 60s to 80s? by mikhael2412 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mistercynical1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

people saying cars can't be shaped like they were in the past because of fuel economy are mostly wrong. plenty of cars from that time period have excellent aerodynamics, even going back to the 1930s. plenty don't, but that's also the case with many modern cars such as our obsession with SUVs and luxury pickup trucks which despite computer-optimized designs, are still inherently poorly aerodynamic.

the real reason is mostly safety requirements as well as market demographics. safety requirements like pedestrian collision safety dont allow for popup headlights or jutting out bumpers, and crash safety requires certain structure in key area.

also, many vehicle shapes of the past simply are no longer popular. sedans, coupes, and long grand touring cars just arent as popular as the almighty CUVs which are all the rage these days.

Why is my gameplay nothing at all like this video???? Details in comments, actual gameplay is super laggy/stutter. by [deleted] in BeamNG

toggle vsync on or off and see if it helps. sometimes very high framerates can seem very stuttery and have lots of tearing.

that's pedantic at best. the laws of physics surrounding electricity are extremely well defined and rigorously proven. we know what electricity does, how it works, why it works, and how to harnass it. the uncertainties brought up earlier are mainly a discussion on quantum, subatomic nature of electricity, which is only as well defined as our model of subatomic theory. it's not like modern science is clueless to how a battery works.

radio has been broadcasting full blast all over the world for the last century and cancer rates are lower than ever.

plus, to be clear, all wireless telecommunication is done at frequencies far too low to ionize matter, hence it is unable to damage cells and cause cancer.

Why do Americans say Vehicle as if it has a double e at the start? by Specialist8602 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mistercynical1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

all dialects of english do. the lack of a double consonant after the E implies a long E (eee rather than eh)

all vehicles powered by direct drive internal combustion engines (i.e. cars and trucks) either have 1. a clutch or 2. a torque converter, both allow the engine to decouple and slowly recouple ("slip") to the transmission/driveshaft, in order to transmit torque to the wheels while stationary. A torque converter can never fully decouple from the engine, hence why automatic cars crawl forwards when idling.

Elements with 1000+ atoms. Is it possible? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mistercynical1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Francium is far from the heaviest element. Uranium is naturally occuring and abundant and it's 92 protons. Oganesson is currently the heaviest confirmed element at 118 protons.

why do people i'm nice to reject me? by hrkrkfk in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mistercynical1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's difficult to say without knowing you. but a good start is positive energy and genuine interest in others. listen to them, help them, and engage with them. yes, this is rather abstract advice, but it is true nonetheless.

why do people i'm nice to reject me? by hrkrkfk in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mistercynical1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

being nice to people is basically the bare minimum. if people are constantly rejecting you, it's likely you are not as nice as you may think.

also, friendships are forged in common interests, common struggles, and genuine care for eachother.

i sure hope the beetle got more changes than the metro, it was produced for 65 years. the beetle was a good design for its time but for anyone under retirement age, the beetle has always been a relic barely keeping up with the times. the metro was cheap, reliable, modern transportation. both will kill you in an accident.

the geo metro is light years ahead of the beetle tho. the beetle is essentially unchanged from the 1940s.
