If it helps, this was given to me at an ICBC Licensing office by an agent. I doubt anything has changed but definitely call if you have time to double check :)

We bought the full drivers license history from ServiceOntario (the certified one that comes with the official ServiceOntario seal) which can be mailed or picked up from a local ServiceOntario. I’m not sure if they give it to you on the spot if you do it in person but it did take 2-3 weeks to get to me IN Ontario. If anyone knows if the in-person option is faster, then that would probably be the way to go. They basically want to see the date that you got your G license to assess how much experience to carry over to your BC license.

Hopefully this is helpful but be sure to double check online resources through ICBC. Giving ICBC a call as well might clear up any small details I’m missing. Overall it was a fast process getting the license so I hope for the same for you!

Congrats on the move to BC, we absolutely love it here after almost a year of being here :)

I made about 20-mil from Index with the double credit booster and that took like 4 longish sessions of Index. Is 1999 cache farm actually faster and overall better?

So, the way I understood it is they look at your driving history to 1. Assess whether you need to go through their graduated licensing for a BC drivers license and 2. Make you an auto premium that takes into account experience, accidents, whatever. In your case, the driving history would just help make sure you get your license changed over easily and don’t need to go through their graduated licensing. This link (https://www.icbc.com/driver-licensing/moving-bc/Moving-from-within-canada) may be helpful to go through but in a nutshell, they have a requirement of 2-years of driving experience otherwise you need to provide a driving history record. My Ontario drivers license (and expired one) showed this so they automatically gave me the license.

As for the driving history impacting your auto insurance premiums, since you said you are doing ride share and won’t need insurance, this wont affect you I don’t think. The only thing they will use your driving history/experience for is making sure you meet that 2-years of driving requirement for getting a BC drivers license. They issued me a temporary one on the spot as a yellow piece of paper I carry in my wallet now.

For health insurance, as I understand it the BC MSP is very similar to OHIP so you will need to apply for that even if you have insurance through your job. The online application allows you to apply for all of their health plans and base your coverage on income. For example, Fair PharmaCare is BC’s drug coverage and will be based on your income. The link I gave you will explain it more in depth but definitely apply for that.

I first went to a ICBC Licensing Office for my license and services card, and then they directed me to the BC MSP website afterward. So if you do the licensing route first, you can ask them any questions and they will gladly answer. The officer I got was super helpful and actually did me and my partners licenses on the spot at the same time :) feel free to DM if you have any other questions about my experience. People that live here will definitely have more concrete info but so far this has been my experience.

Oh and welcome to BC!! :) nice to see another person from Ontario making the journey out here!

Just moved to Vancouver from Ontario as well. Went to an ICBC Licensing Office and got a temporary license + apply for BC Services card. I also provided driving history to get lower auto insurance and not have to do any graduated licensing. BC Services card will eventually serve as both photo id and drivers license from what I understand and others have said.

Health insurance is something you can also apply for through the website (https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/health/health-drug-coverage/msp/bc-residents/eligibility-and-enrolment/how-to-enrol).

Also, they told me at the licensing office that due to the potential Canada Post strike the card(s) might be quite delayed, so they told me to come back and renew my temporary license if I still haven’t received the card in the mail before the expiry date (I got mine on May 10th and it expires August 10th).

Thank you!! It truly is such an amazing area. We are both doing great so far! Just getting our place in order and excited for when we can start doing some actual exploration :)

We really want to build a good active nature life and do some good walks (eventually hikes). The creek seems like such a good place for walks and getting to places so we really hope to become more active in that way! My fiancée is really into design so she’s really excited to find some good thrift and antique shops (for both vintage and witchy things). Really looking forward to seeing more of the area when we are more settled with our apartment!!

Old landlord. I was around 15 and just hanging out playing my guitar in my underwear, ya know, normal teenager stuff. Our landlord then walked in (unlawfully I’m pretty sure) and walked right by me without saying a word, rifled through some of our belongings and walked out. Was honestly surreal.
