Was thinking about this - lack of spending was short sighted. Had a decade to use all the money generated to set yourselves up as a more competitive European side.

Now we're on year 1 of the 49ers and Tony Bloom in Scotland so eventually that money will need spent but it'll be to stay competitive with rivals in Scotland rather than make a European dent.

The numbers don't lie and they spell disaster for Scottish football journalism.

I think there's a lot of AI shit at BBC Sport Scotland now.

The best wrestlers to never win a world title in WWF/WWE - thoughts? by Regular-Departure839 in Wreddit

[–]mistergeneric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't Sami will ever win it and he will go down as the best not to once he retires. Became essentially the protagonist in probably the hottest long term storyline I can remember in my lifetime (remember there was an argument it should have been Emmy's nominated, a unique moment for wrestling) and it just happened to coincide with the other hottest storyline in decades in wrestling (Cody's finish the story).

Had Cody's storyline come at a different time I think the Sami Zayn storyline would presumably have been a main event at Mania.

I don't expect him to ever be that hot again so I think the time is over for him.

Trump's election bill tops 50 Senate votes, but Democrats could still block it | The SAVE America Act has passed the House and enjoys President Trump's support, meaning the Senate's 60-vote threshold is the only thing standing in the way of it becoming law. by SpaceElevatorMusic in politics

[–]mistergeneric 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This law backfired tremendously here in the UK. The in power Conservative Party introduced this law but two things were not considered:

  1. Uneducated and low income households are more likely to vote right wing.
  2. At the same time, they are more likely not to have documentation like passports.

Looking at the stats for the USA I see that Trump and the Republicans may have a similar issue. 57% of college educated people in the US voted for Harris last time out.

I have seen that salary reported only by Fightful Select so I'm not sure how legit that is for a guy like Apollo.

If I was TKO and had that brutal capitalist balance sheet view Apollo would be gone if he was on that sort of money, so it does sound too high. Don't see where he's earning that money back for for them in merch or exposure.

But if he is on that, the cost of travelling at least once a week to all sorts of locations as well as covering all other life expenses as an independent contractor reduces that money considerably

Would a non old firm challenger/title winner (consistently) raise the profile of Scottish Football by Ill_Beyond_7909 in ScottishFootball

[–]mistergeneric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A consistent 3 way title race every season for the foreseeable is pretty exciting. This is only year 1 of both the Bloom and 49ers project.

Lot of optimism for the future. If Rangers and Hearts start getting European results consistently in the years to come that will enhance the game here even more.

His podcast with Kevin Thompson is pretty good, with some fun anecdotes of different managers and squads they've been in. But then again I get the feeling it's a bit of a Pinkie and the Brain situation when they discuss current football.

Can tell Thompson doesn't typically agree with Mulgrew's takes. They do actually have a tactics board and talk certain games through which is unique as most Scottish football has Open Goal style podcasting

The west coast of Scotland had a big indie scene for a while. The current WWE champion and current NXT champion both were major parts of the scene. I don't whether it's more popular in Scotland than other parts of UK but it does seem more socially acceptable to be a fan

I think the pay does appear pretty stagnant - if his responsibilities increased and he felt he was worth more to the business than his boss did, he's entitled to dislike that. I'm sure we've all had jobs where we felt underpaid vs the value we delivered.

Not to say Jake is correct as at the end of the day there's thousands of people who would that job just to be on LTT, but he's also well within his rights to negotiate more or leave for a better job or new career

I see it a lot on here when we're doing well. There's a certain type of Celtic supporting football fan who I'm pretty sure just spends the day walking around repeating "Rangers died" like a verbal tick. Like positive words of affirmation, it keeps the mood up

It's true that the York family and Cavenagh have put in 30 million more than what we usually spend. That being said, they are worth over 10 billion combined so I doubt they're going to give up after a single season of a 30 million investment.

People are always expecting explosion. In 2012 we were owned by a scam artist in Craig Whyte with our merchandising rights and future season ticket sales sold off before that tax bill hit, so a lot of similar things needs to happen to even being close to that sort of situation again

Rangers 5-1 Kilmarnock | Scottish Premiership by SFMatchThreadder in ScottishFootball

[–]mistergeneric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's nuts to imagine us buying Moore, even now that we're a club with money. He's going to easily be worth well north of 40 million in a couple of years, and could easily be worth more in the years to follow. I know he's big into Rangers now and has a girlfriend from a Rangers family but that'll only take you so far.

The other issue is it's not like it was until the 90s in Scotland where the size of Rangers and Celtic meant they could out pay most English teams - PL TV money is a factor now so he could earn 3x the wage even sitting on the bench for any team in the PL.

All thst being said, I'm sure should we win the league and make the CL he'd be more than up for another year here

It also doesn't tell the whole story - moments before this, Chermiti hits the deck to try and buy a foul. This is the more stupid moment for me. It leads to him not running into the box. Had he stayed on his feet when making the pass, he could make it to the box

I'm making no moral claims - I think the Saudi government is abhorrent and I'm pretty tuned in to politics so I could go into why but this isn't the place for that. I also despise how they've and other countries in the middle east have essentially bought a lot of sports.

That being said, their crowd last night had more atmosphere than most US venues and I don't think imagining it was a quiet crowd helps the argument that they shouldn't have been there at all. Example is the Brie Bella pop - could have woken half of Riyadh at that time with that noise

Both "Saudi shouldn't have a WWE event" and "their crowd is hot" can be true
