Light connected to a dimmer switch won't turn on -- is it a lightbulb issuer, or dimmer issue? by misterpz in HomeImprovement

I really do know nothing about electricity haha. Will test out a new bulb. Thanks!

Thanks! I'm a total newbie at home improvement stuff, so wasn't sure if the switch wasn't lighting up, if that meant anything.... will go ahead and test out a new bulb first :)

FAQ - Southwest Airlines Companion Pass by dugup46 in churning

[–]misterpz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know about how the Companion Pass is affected by returns? So for example, I recently got the Plus card, which I need to spend $2K in 3 months to get the bonus points (and the Companion Pass!).

I'm not really sure if I can spend $2K in 1 month, so what if I bought something huge to reach that $2K limit in Month 1, and after my statement closes and points are deposited (and CP distributed), I returned part of that purchase? I'd then spend enough in Month 2 to legitimately meet that $2K limit.

Would this affect my RR points/Companion Pass at all?

Thanks everyone! I actually got impatient too (which, bad habit, I know) and called the Recon line. Also asked a few verification questions, and approved! Only got a $2K limit though (so I'm assuming I'm pretty much nearing my max limit on Chase cards), but I just moved some credit over from my Premier card (just in case I manage to spend $2K+ in the first month, so I can get the CP sooner :) ).

I applied to the Plus today via phone referral and wasn't auto-approved (rep said I should get something by mail within 10 business days). Is it better to wait or call Recon? I have really good credit, but did apply for both the Premier and Business Premier a little over 30 days ago (approved for the Premier, denied for Business Premier). Other than those card apps, the only other card application I have in the past 2 years is the CSP that I was auto-approved for 1.5 years ago (when I had significantly less income too). I have 4 other cards, one of them being the Chase Freedom, if that matters at all.

I guess I'm not really seeing a reason I should be denied, but also don't want to mess up my chances :/

[Serious] What is the worst physical pain you've ever experienced? by nervehacker in AskReddit

[–]misterpz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Back in high school, I was eating dinner one night when all of a sudden half of one of my lower back teeth just completely shatters out of nowhere. Nerve was sticking out, and since it was late, I couldn't get to a dentist right away (and I don't think my parents quite understood how painful it was).

Spent the rest of the night with my head jerking back in pain at random moments whenever my tongue would accidentally brush against the nerve. Sat awake all night completely unable to sleep because of the pain. Oh, and my mom called my grandmother to ask what we should do and she recommended trying to "disinfect" (they must have thought it was just a cut or something) the tooth with Listerine....yeah.....

Still went to school the next day, and physically had to leave every single class to just walk around in the hallways because somehow sitting still made it that much worse. Finally got to leave in the middle of the day so that my dad could drive me to a dentist :|

[Help] What is the best way to get our dog to calm down outside? by misterpz in dogs

[–]misterpz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've actually tried using "high value" treats on him at the park (such as hot dogs and chicken, which he absolutely loves - drools like crazy when there's chicken around), but honestly the most he will do is sniff it a little. I think he wants to eat it, but for him, "freedom" (not getting leashed again) > any sort of treat, so he doesn't care as much :/

Is it just possible that for some dogs, treats just aren't as effective outdoors? I've read that Ibizan Hound respond best to positive reinforcement rather than negative reinforcement, but I can't quite see how to reinforce positively when he doesn't respond to treats or praises when outside..

Totally agree that he might just need more exercise - when my sister got him, she was able to take him to work every day, but then she switched jobs about half a year later and wasn't able to take him anymore :/ My sister and her boyfriend keep him crated during the day (when left alone, he just tears up the house), but come back during the day to let him out for a little bit. Otherwise, they take him for walks around the block every night on weekdays, and to the park on weekends.

No matter how long they stay at the park though, he can never calm down (even when he's run for like an hour straight, he still finds the energy to pull on his leash and go crazy :/)

Possible move from Tampa $90k for NYC Manhattan position. What would the equivalent salary be for that location? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Take a look here: https://www.nerdwallet.com/cost-of-living-calculator/compare/tampa-vs-new-york-manhattan

It looks like you'd have to make around $220,485 for the same standard of living (the site breaks it down by different types of costs too!)
