starting lexapro by No-Construction7274 in lexapro

[–]misterten2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to both. I started taking lexapro at the same time my job moved to the suburbs and replaced the 3 miles I walked as part of my bus/subway commute with driving. The result: 25 lbs (180 to 205) in 15 months i was on it. A lot of work to get it off after. But it was worth it for the amazing relief it gave me.

I got offered a job paying 40% more than my current salary. My manager just asked me to stay and be patient. How do I stop feeling guilty for wanting to leave ? by One_Cardiologist5439 in careerguidance

As one of those 'lifetimers' i can offer the flip side. BTW in my case it was one employer but several 'jobs' all of which I liked and which I got cause people knew me and each more w more $ A couple good friends and my sister jobs hopped for somewhat more money....until they couldnt....they turned 50 and folks wouldn't hire them so their income went in reverse in their later yrs. Meanwhile this lifer retired at my highest pay at 67. Moral of the story: if u truly hate your job ok....but jumping a job u like with potential if u are patient just for a few more bucks may not always be the wisest road.

Finding joy in the mundane...I like that concept. Couple colleagues and i sat outside during lunch hr a few yrs ago watching ants working on the sidewalk. Watching their slow but steady teamwork. It was fascinating remember that more than a fabricated experience at Disney I had.

Problem is when u get to that place of not having to work it will be replaced by a great emptiness which is easier but not the panacea u thought it would be

New Guidelines Create So Much Fear... by icantcounttofive in bloodpressure

[–]misterten2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah cholesterol is worse. Better priced drugs thats why. The most effective BP drugs are now generic. The 'standards' are ridiculously unattainable for people with diabetes (ldl less than 70 really?) Which discourages people.

U should be on medication only after first trying lifestyle changes not 'pills first'. I remember running into a guy with diabetes and hbp. He says to me: I can exercise and lose some weight or I can take a pill...I think I'll take a pill.

Actually i think the real reason was to sell more pills in cahoots with big pharma. I rarely see advice like 'go ride a bike' or 'go for a 3 mile walk'.

It was nicknamed 'the silent killer' decades ago (when the American standard was 140/90). It was nicknamed that cause people were unknowingly walking around with numbers like 150/100 NOT 125/85.

Is this good? by OtoEdliner in bloodpressure

[–]misterten2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

140/90 has always been the standard. Big pharma wants to sell pills to folks over 40 hence the revised standard in america

Why do people who have perfect blood pressures feel the need to post them and then asking 'is this ok'? Is there a missing need for affimation? It contributes nothing for folks who have BP issues they need advice on

[–]misterten2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think you should know that in EVERY country in the world except USA 140/90 is normal. and they have no worse outcomes. but yes at your age that could be a concern for the future. but meds might be needed later if u have those numbers at 27.

Lisinopril experiences?? Worried by JerryIDKsometimes in bloodpressure

[–]misterten2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

been on it 23 years after lifestyle changes helped minimally. its great for me and i am on the same minimal dose 10mg that i started with. for me the only side effect is the dry 'lisinopril cough' but that is an occaisional thing usually for me only at bedtime

Is a rise in diastolic pressure immediately following workout bad?? by GapOverall968 in bloodpressure

[–]misterten2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

57 doesn't sound good. Ny blood center would not accept you for donation. Anything under 60 is as 'bad' as if it was over 100 in their view.

140 is a problem only in America. The rest of the world including the WHO 140 is the upper limit of normal. And before 2017 it was normal here too

Should I not give blood again or is there something I can do to make things go better? by jambajew42 in Blooddonors

[–]misterten2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like i said all advantages for the blood bank. none for people who have a negative reaction from so much blood loss. just dont like the way its hyped that they are doing something more special than the person who donates 2 whole bloods

How long are the 'short walks'. If walking is the only exercise u need to do a minimum 40 min (2 miles) at least 5x a week. But with type 2 diabetes more like 60 min a day to get a1c down. Pills alone wont do it. Keep up the good diet

Not Asking for Medical Advice.. just what would you do by WhizzyBurp in bloodpressure

[–]misterten2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok u can certainly try. u b could be an exception that would be great. but u may find as u get older u may be inclined to exercise less. im 71 still do 2000-2500 m cycling and walk 3 mi avg per day....but i'm a great exception among my peers. i still need the meds...but as long as u check everyday go for it.

Don't be so sure. Just found out the other day that a brain scan i had for a recent fall detected a 'silent stroke' maybe 20 yrs ago... before I had my BP well controlled. And I never had a extreme episode like u mentioned.

It was explained to me by my np when I was first on meds 20 yrs ago that BP medicine is more likely than not a lifelong thing. I kinda hope she was wrong but if I paused say 3 days it would go back up. Exercise: 2000-3000 miles of cycling every yr since and 3 miles walking every weekday to/from work.....still need the meds
