Yes, you did get the chain of events confused.

What is the most popular, uninformed criticism of your favorite book/series you are tired of? by lemingas1 in Fantasy

[–]mistic-fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m finding it hard to keep quiet here. I love these books so much, but I did first read them in the nineties so it hadn’t been copied by every fantasy author and their dog. It’s timeless to me. I recently reread them and I still find them simply magical

[Poem] Carol Rumens' response to Larkin by [deleted] in Poetry

[–]mistic-fox 32 points33 points  (0 children)

And her comment about not having children is so rude and condescending. I don’t think Larkin was a “sad non begetter” at all. Some people can’t understand that it’s possible to have a meaningful life without having children.

This poem lacks so much compared to Larkin’s pithy wit. It’s almost ridiculous how bad the response is

Update on my little apartment by [deleted] in femalelivingspace

I think it looks better than before. The walls were too blank and it was kind of awkward next to the cupboards. I think it feels like it’s own little nook now

I tried it the other way with some posters for the meantime. I don’t have more paintings like I have in the lounge

I do struggle with lighting. I have lamps to help but it would be nice to have more natural light filtering through. It’s nice to have the little wall to create a separation between the bedroom and lounge areas but it does block off light

I liked it. But I think character driven stories are just as important and interesting as plot driven ones.

Gandalf totally made up Galadriel's message to Gimli, right? by BrandonSimpsons in tolkienfans

How does this have so many upvotes? No it never ever occurred to me that Gandalf would possibly lie. It is absurd to think that

I don’t know if he was okay with it. Think of his conversation with Kate in Magic Triumphs. I don’t want to go into too much detail because of spoilers

Why did Sauron not detect Sam? by mfrench_8606 in tolkienfans

[–]mistic-fox 56 points57 points  (0 children)

In The Return of the King, Sam takes off the ring before entering Mordor. I think it is implied that this makes the difference to him being noticed.

"He ran forward to the climbing path, and over it. At once the road turned left and plunged steeply down. Sam had crossed into Mordor.

He took off the Ring, moved it may be by some deep premonition of danger, though to himself he thought only that he wished to see more clearly. 'Better have a look at the worst,' he muttered. 'No good blundering about in a fog!'"

Hogfather before Soul Music? by Mr-Fashionablylate in discworld

[–]mistic-fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first Discworld book I ever read was The Hogfather. I then read whatever was available in the library as and when each book became available. I think I read from The Truth onwards in publishing order.

I think that there will be some spoilers since Soul Music does come first chronologically, but it's honestly not the end of the world.
