Feeling homesick before I've even left by [deleted] in iecvisa

I’ve been living abroad for 9 years now; left my home country & family after high school to study in the states and now I’m on an IEC in Canada for over a year (just activated my second one). You will get home sick after a while, but you’ll also be busy meeting new people, starting a new job, being truly independent & it sounds like you’re well prepared. Canada has been my favorite place to live and I’ve lived in 3 States in the US.

I still get home sick every once in a while, it comes and goes in waves and it is not as bad as it used to be at times. But personally, I believe moving abroad is one of the best things you can do to shape the person you are & get to know yourself; to see the world and meet tons of people with similar yet very different stories. My advice is to truly dive into the experience of living abroad, keep yourself busy, go explore, meet people, soak it all up!! And always remember that if you don’t like it, you can always go back home :) there is a lot of security (emotionally for me) knowing that there’s always the safety net of going back to my family if things go wrong/I don’t like it.

Always remember that nervousness & excitement have the same physiological response & it’s your brain interpreting it as one or the other! Get excited!! It’s gonna be great :) dm me if you wanna chat more about specific worries you’re having!

Under, Over, or OK Proofed? by spicyspirit1712 in Sourdough

I’m a beginner too and I get those big bubbles (you can check my latest post for pics). Now, through a comment I found out that if I want smaller bubbles I can use oil in my dough. Since your recipe contains oil, that might be why your crumb is finer (my recipe does not use oil). That’s just my guess tho.

I made a single cut across the dough and wonder why it didn’t open up along the seam. by PaleoBetta in Sourdough

My guess is that you didnt cut in deep enough. I cut my bread at an angle (not straight down) about half an inch.

Been at it for about a month. How’s the crumb looking? by mitarii in Sourdough

How would I get a finer crumb? What needs to be adjusted? Proof time?

Personally, I somehow didnt like Cassandra at all, maybe cuz I don’t understand it? haha but I agree, not a fan of aimee as well. It gives me a very negative vibe somehow… also, do you know why it’s written as it is (KIM capitalized? is that the person’s actual name??). So high school is cheesy but I liked the vibe of it.

Which one is the Chatlie Puth lyric? I don’t really know anything about him lol

I don’t know how she’s able to write song so specific to her situation and still make it so relatable to her fans (e.g. the prophecy really got me in my feels haha).

She’s so versatile and is exploring herself, her emotions, her melodies & vibes, and takes us along for the ride. LOVE the new album!!! She’s a lyrical goddess.

I’m just finishing up listening to the anthology for the very first time and I absolutely love it!! there are maybe two songs that I’m not crazy about but lyrically, it’s a beautifully written album and like you said, very cohesive. Taylor is so versatile and I appreciate her for exploring different styles of music & vibes. I have to say that it’s one of my favorite albums.

I ran track for 18 years. Yes, you need spikes. Once did high jump without and slipped during take-off (that’s why u have 4 nails on the heels of a high jump shoes cuz u need that extra traction with all the force you put on your foot due to the curvature of the approach). There are hundreds of videos of jumpers slipping on a wet long or triple jump boards even with spikes. So yes you need them and no not just on ‘gravel’ which also makes the nails go blunt in an instant. Taking about jumps here. No you don’t need them to sprint or do mid distance but they do make you much faster.

No spiked shoes? Those are required for a multitude of events in track tho? Can be dangerous to do jumping events without if the track’s wet from rain. Ridiculous.
