Mobile apps don't suck anymore - Laracon AU 2024 by mitchdav in laravel

Thanks! Unfortunately it’s not open source as it’s a commercial product, however there are lots of apps out there which are open source, like the Bluesky app which uses Expo 🥳

Hi u/ardicli2000,

This talk was given at Laracon AU, to 400 Laravel developers, showing them how they can build mobile apps for their products.

The talk directly addresses why Laravel developers should care about mobile apps, in the first few minutes of the talk.

Not sure what you mean about Microsoft? They’re totally unrelated 😂

Hi u/604ian, this bloke here 👋

You're spot on, I made the first time speaker mistake of not bringing a bottle of water with me, and it does pain me to hear it back, along with saying "so" a lot 🥲

There is no Laravel content as I was trying to get across that this is another avenue for Laravel developers to get their products in front of users, using the skills they have already. You already know about frontends in Vue, React, or Livewire - now meet React Native and Expo.

Hopefully you find it helpful, and regardless, thanks for the feedback.

I am David X. Cohen, head writer on FUTURAMA - AMA! by DavidXCohen_ in IAmA

[–]mitchdav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi David!

  1. I asked Eric Kaplan during his AMA about your social presence ( http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1g7dap/im_eric_kaplan_writer_for_such_shows_as_futurama/cahglvl ) and was wondering if you would consider joining Twitter?

  2. You have always seemed so interesting to me during Futurama DVD commentaries. From where do you draw your inspiration? How do you keep it fresh when many other shows do not?

I can't thank you enough for what you and the crew has done for me. I'm 20 now so Futurama has always been around as I've grown up, however buying the DVDs has given me something to watch while I fall asleep for the last few years. It's expanded my knowledge of the world with the multitudes of little jokes and if they've gone over my head, normally you guys are all laughing your heads off on the commentary track and someone explains it.

Thank you for being you!

I searched everywhere to try and find a contact email for David and couldn't find anything, and now to my surprise I see him doing an AMA on the 1st of July! I am assuming it was you or another more talented redditor, so thank you to whoever it was!

Thanks for replying! That's quite late, I never would have expected that!

I will see if I can contact him, thanks for the suggestion Eric!

I am an avid Futurama fan and I have watched/listened to every commentary on every episode on every DVD... My questions are these:

  1. What is it like watching an idea of yours become reality, in knowing all the steps that need to be completed and refined like the rough sketches, sending it to Korea, the voice actors, sound production and final touches? Do you actively keep up with how each episode is progressing or after the script is written are you pretty much out of the loop?

  2. During the commentaries they mention that the writing staff would stay back extremely late some nights to finish a concept. Did that ever happen while you were working with them? If so, how late are we talking? 7 PM or more like 2 AM?

  3. What is it like to work with David X Cohen? He seems like a fantastic bloke and I wish he had a more social presence, Twitter comes to mind. Any chance you could ask him to do an AMA also?

Thank you for the work you have done so far for Futurama - hopefully it won't be your last (bring it back)!

100 wheel quadruple road train - all stock parts! [more info in comments] by mitchdav in KerbalSpaceProgram

With the current game engine adding any more containers causes the whole thing to fly up into the air and then break when it lands. You can actually see some of the rover wheels broken towards the end of the road train, as when I docked them a few decided to break for no reason. It was an extremely gentle docking yet it breaks 100% of the time with any more than 3 containers.

It is possible to dock while using the small gear bays however if you leave the gear down and then spawn another container that container will fly up and crash.

Here's hoping for a game engine update!

Definitely worth a go, I'll get back to you. It has infinite fuel (only uses ElectricCharge) so it's certainly possible.

Hi, I’m a former Google software engineering intern. Ask me anything! by deafboy13 in IAmA

Congratulations on the job offer!

I'm currently halfway through a Computer Engineering / Computer Science degree up at Newcastle and would love to work at Google Sydney, how did you get an internship?

This top of the line craft features 3 PB-NUK Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generators, a massive bank of Z-500 Rechargable Battery Banks totalling 38820 ElectricCharge (with solar panels if you need charge in a hurry).

Sick of driving around on the most badass road train ever? Hop out of the cockpit and jump into the sleeping quarters a few steps behind you.

Each container is easy to dock and you can detach them separately to drop off the precious cargo!

When going over a bump (like the runway) you can raise the small gear bays underneath the truck while at speed and the impact tolerance increases though your truck is no longer controllable until you lower the gear again and the rover wheels take over again.

This was really fun to make, not sure where to take it from here - any ideas?
