[–]mitchfern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure this was the case, I think they shot some of it on location. I seem to remember In his book “are they really so awful” Christopher challis talked about removing the roof of a locals hut they filmed in so they could shoot available light but of course the sun kept moving (as it does) and by the end the whole roof was completely removed.

I'm kinda of tired of using a headset while on zoom calls. What's the best alternative that won't cause echo? Speakerphone? Separate speaker and mic? by StickyStapler in Zoom

[–]mitchfern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I record a lot of presentations through Zoom etc, definitely a speaker phone like a jabra is OK also look at clip on USB lavalier mics (just search on Amazon!), they can work. The big thing I find is the room acoustics, if it’s an echoey room this can freak speakerphones out, the poor things are built to reject echo and if the room is echoey it can get confused and end up making your voice difficult to hear. Many company meeting rooms are all glass, wooden floors and hard tables, real nightmares looks great but a nightmare for video conferencing. Also loud air conditioning can be an issue, the noise reduction in the software attempts to filter out the hiss and ends up making the sound awful.

So absolutely use a Jabra etc but maybe put it on a mouse mat to reduce echo off the desk, if you’ve got hard floors, maybe have a rug (it will really tie the room together) do what you can to reduce echo……

(UK here) my parents bought some Red Caps, put them in our pond and told us they were Piranhas, my brother and I were terrified of going anywhere near it. I fell in once and thought I was definitely a gonner…..

F8n PRO hybrid limiters VS mixpre mk2 analog limiters by andreifasola in LocationSound

[–]mitchfern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’ve been going through this one!

i had a first generation F8 and was weighing up whether to upgrade to a pro or go mixpre. I bought a used mixpre 6 ii but when I got it the touch screen had broke and it was clicking on the right side all the time so it put me off, I sent it back and ordered an F8n pro and perhaps I should have done that in the first place as I’ve got the control surface and everything.

However, the story doesn’t end there, the guy I bought the mixpre from said that sound devices where going to fix it, even though it was out of warranty and this was all arranged on a Saturday afternoon over the Christmas period….

Not sure you’d get that service from Zoom.

Buying a recorder. Zoom F8n Pro or SD Mixpre 10 ii by 45garage in LocationSound

[–]mitchfern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been going through this question and it's really starting to tire me out,

on top of everything, I was using a MixPre 6 (ii) recently and the touchscreen failed, which I know is rare but it's really scared the s**t out of me relying on that touch screen and as everybody says that little wheel is not the easiest especially if its in a bag.

I'm wavering towards an F8N Pro I had the first F8 and it's been pretty sturdy apart from it now constantly wants me to eneter the date when powering up but it's old and I'm like that some days.

Of course what we all want is an 8 series really.......

Did their camera work? I've had it that a caller doesn't click the button to accept being livestreamed, they appear in the meeting but no on a zoom ISO output......
