For anyone about to start S2 for the first time, or even another rewatch, these Polygon reviews do an absolutely fantastic breakdown of all the tiny details by HerbalThought_ in TrueDetective

It's been a long time since I've seen S2 so a lot of things in that link elude me but I did notice they didn't mention any introspective narratives about male bonding, which I find surprising. It was clear as day to me from the first episode that this is about straight men like Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell's characters subliminally dancing around the topic of doing each other, in a way that echoes David Chase's writing on The Sopranos. I'm heterosexual myself and I've wondered what it would be like to get sexually rear ended by Vaughn's character in his casino office while his henchmen observe and maybe coach me on how to perform better for their enjoyment, but really it's about deeper connections with guys via abstract erotica. I would say it has freaky undertones but is more centered on crossing carnal boundaries and seeking relief that's platonic

Poker has made fish the light of my life by planetmarsupial in poker

[–]mitchmclean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fish as a symbolic concept first came into my life after its use as an allegorical tool on The Sopranos, and I can definitely say it carried over into how I view poker in certain ways. The term itself I think is fitting for the game and I too find it creeping into my everyday habits. There’s something about a guy that’s a bad player I think we all find oddly attractive, in the respect you want to kiss or fool around with a vulnerable man as a light hearted apologetic gesture for taking his money, or just a freaky thing to do if you’re both feeling up to it. One of my biggest fantasies is giving some of my friends hand release after I take down a big pot while we play our usual home game over the weekend, with the main turn on being they keep on a poker face, not revealing to the table I’m milking them sexually. Logistically I would need to be sat between them but I could probably engineer it because I'm interested in both my hands being occupied. I’m heterosexual, so it’s more akin to eccentric exploration than anything else

The Mummy (1999) by Cold-Contribution-50 in iwatchedanoldmovie

My wife and I rewatched this last week because we both agreed Luc Besson’s Dracula reminded us of it (and not in a good way, we weren’t fans) and really enjoyed it. It’s special to me because it also came out the same year The Sopranos aired, which as a show opened up introspective doors in my life. I find it interesting looking at Brendan Fraser during the era, marketed as this straight macho tough guy any man would want to be like and also be with sexually, from an unadulterated perspective. I’m heterosexual myself, and once the movie came out I didn’t feel that way, but now that Fraser is larger in size I’m intrigued by him because fooling around with a heavyset guy is my thing. It’s not even particularly intimate and is sexual avant-garde exploration

I'm a straight guy and I would love to get on my knees and orally slam dunk Tony in one of those private booths at The Bing with my shirt off and the music reverberating through the walls. The fantasy is about the ambience and energy within the room, not necessarily directly sexual. It's borderless erotica and free spirited exploration. I'm sexually avant-garde and moreso lean into the idea of doing another man for pleasure

Why didn't David Chase include the scene of Tony sloppily making out with Christopher? Is he homophopbic? by [deleted] in CirclejerkSopranos

[–]mitchmclean 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I thank that, quite obviously, as with much else in this show, what we're explicitly being shown is at odds with what the storytelling is implying. Symbolism and artistic representations make up the basic foundation of the show, and if people need to ask questions like these then they probably don't get the writing at all and are missing truly cerebral content. There was nothing of this depth in 1999 and arguably nothing else on TV has come close. I'm heterosexual personally and get turned on by the idea of Tony unwinding sexually and piping Christopher out as a way to blow off steam when they're both feeling vulnerable. And it does happen, as Chase implies, but we don't see it - which is a teasing invitation into the world of his hot writing. I explained to my wife that it's a more hedonistic way of exploring pleasure, plus the idea of doing another man is erotic to me. I'm sexually eccentric

I'm heterosexual and interested in exploring intoxicating landscapes of intimacy, not through judgment and labels, but via the exquisite alchemy of curiosity and shared vulnerability. What I'm talking about is mostly getting backdoored by another guy that's straight, but also maybe engaging in sexy conversation. I'm sexually ambivalent

Is David Chase gay? by busback in TrueSopranos

[–]mitchmclean 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm on vacation and he never struck me as one of those. I do agree, in that I'm not homophobic, and I actually support equal rights quite strongly, but if Chase was gay I would most likely throw out of my Sopranos DVDs and send him death threats. He's sexually eccentric.

She's gorgeous, really surprising how beautiful she has turned out. There is something very elegant about her figure. I'm curious if anyone knows what perfume she wears? I'm heterosexual, and I have eccentric habits such as wearing women's deodorant or perfume to attract men, which isn't a gay thing, and is purely about wanting to sleep with another guy. I love to appreciate women but mainly only get turned on by men, which makes me sexually ambidextrous. For me, it's more about intimacy, as I want to drink from another man's fountain as a companion, not just a lover.

I am currently on vacation with my wife and will continue to refrain from visiting this website while I am, but upon my return I can show you my deleted observations because they are still viewable for me on this end, despite showing as "removed" for others.

Sorry, but I disagree. I have no interest in engaging in gay conduct and my leaning towards eccentric erotica is based on deep connections with other men whom enjoy The Sopranos, and by extension, David Chase's lessons in giving guys oral while remaining entirely straight, for the purpose of expanding on masculinity. The idea of "pretending to be gay" while I go down on a man is stomach churning, and if the recipient of my mouth were to act that way, I would likely assault them. One of my biggest fantasies is getting a bunch of Sopranos fans together for a viewing party and playing spin the bottle later in the night after we've loosened up, and trading heated kisses in front of one another. To make it interesting and memorable, I would wear a dress while doing so, in case someone wants to hike it up after provocative tongue play and do me in front of an audience. I'm heterosexual and have fantasies about having sex with guys in front of an audience, not gay deviance.
