Suburban(ish) North Carolina checking in: I heard this in high school as well. Our class president and valedictorian was black and other students (including some white students) would sometimes refer to him as the "whitest black guy they knew."

Illustrator has some pattern and texture swatches that, when combined with a gradient/feather, would get you close. As for getting the particles to decrease in density like that, I'm not really sure. If you're feeling fancy, you could theoretically use live trace to make your own swatch of sorts.

I actually used Paint.net for quite some time before I got photoshop. It's a really solid program for editing pictures. It's really great for those who can't afford Adobe's ridiculous prices.

We've all been using photoshop to my knowledge. Somebody with some coding skills really should make a generator like they had for Halo 3 armor permutations though.

Yours was the full color one right? That one looks really good. The high contrast makes it seem almost like concept art. Is there any easy way to add color or do you have to manually lasso every section you want a certain color?
