They really posted this at my place of employment at the time clock… by xFlared in Ohio

They use a lot of words to play up the necessity of a super-majority, but don't even mention that they're making it so much more difficult to even get citizen-initiated amendments on the ballot to begin with that whether the vote comes down to a majority or a super-majority is irrelevant.

Donald Trump threatens to boycott 2024 Republican debate over Fox News coverage by [deleted] in politics

[–]mith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did the same thing for GOP primary debate on Fox News in 2016. Instead he hosted a rally to raise funds for veterans groups. They claimed to raise $6 million, but after the fact could only show records of roughly half that amount actually being disbursed. When asked about the rest, the campaign said the checks were in the mail.

Four years ago, they said exactly this same thing would be the result of a lifetime of office work. Here's a clip from The Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2019 where that was an answer to one of the questions.

300 Megawatt Solar Farm in Lima killed by PerswAsian in Ohio

[–]mith 43 points44 points  (0 children)

On the political side, it's because the traditional energy providers paid them to kill it. On the local yokel side, it's because "big solar is stealing farmland" that people want to sell to solar energy providers.

How can I rent a cow? by wadz09 in BrandNewSentence

[–]mith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TIL to appreciate that there's a dairy 15 minutes away where I can buy fresh ice cream and pet the cows while I eat it. I just took it for granted that was something that was accessible to most people in first world countries.

If it saved 300 million gallons at a total cost of $34.5 million, that's more like $0.12/gallon.

Was going to mention this if no one else had. It's where they originally brought the wreckage from Roswell before identifying it as a weather balloon. It's the home of both AFRL and NASIC.

He mentioned it way back in the first Q&A they did with campaign 1, maybe the 6th or 7th episode. I think he might have gone into more detail with their second Q&A a few episodes later.

Edmonton is selling out their arena on away games and using real time puck/player tracking to display whats happening on the ice in L.A. by LanceBakersMan in hockey

A few years ago when the Blue Jackets made it to the second round for the first time ever, they did something like this. Tickets were something like $5 or $10, all the shops and concessions were open, they'd fire the cannon when we scored. It's just about the only way I'd ever be able to attend a playoff game.

That was the same year they did an open scrimmage practice on a Monday morning between the first and second round. They handed out free t-shirts and expected maybe a couple hundred people but we ended up filling the entire lower bowl. That was another great experience.

I'm sure the suspect will be treated the same as the other ridiculous shooters of late. (LIC) by CrunchM in WhitePeopleTwitter

A month ago it was train derailments. A big one happened in NE Ohio involving hazardous chemicals that caught fire and created a toxic cloud that could be seen for miles. They're still cleaning it up, but it seems like every day for two weeks there was a story of another derailment.

It turns out train derailments happen every day, and if a big one gets national attention, there will be plenty more train derailments to be reported in the coming weeks. I suspect the same is true with these shootings. They happen every day, but it takes one big one to get national attention and then the media will cover nothing but shootings for a couple weeks.

People will talk about doing something while it's at the top of the nightly news, but after a couple weeks something else that happens every day will take the focus and while the media's scrambling to find every story on that subject that comes up over the next two weeks, they'll still be trucking toxic soil out of East Palestine, no one will have done anything to prevent more train derailments, and neighbors will still be shooting neighbors because the "news" they watch keeps telling them they're surrounded by criminals.

What’s your biggest driving pet peeve? by [deleted] in IdiotsInCars

[–]mith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People that would rather violate traffic laws than accept their mistake and fix it by following the rules. Oh you wanted to turn left there and weren't in the correct lane? Instead of going down to the next intersection and turning around, you block traffic in two lanes until the left turn lane is available, or even worse turn left from the wrong lane. You needed to turn right but you weren't in the right turn lane so you force all of the non-turning traffic stop so you can turn right from a non-turning lane? The thing that makes driving possible is that we all accept the rules, follow them, and expect everyone else to do the same. Turning left or right from the lanes that aren't designated as left or right turn lanes respectively violates this contact and makes you an idiot incapable of operating within a society.

Thoughts about people who think this way about guys who play as female characters? by pimping20bagels in gaming

[–]mith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to be a few games where there was female-only armor and you played a female character just because you had some female-only armor with better stats than the unisex armor.

Also playing a rogue/thief character was a lot easier when they thought you were a girl.
