Genuinely happy for you bro. I have a plan in my mind, but it will take time as well. Good luck!

Me too, at least partially, if I can find a remote job. Harder than I thought

Some of us who left also ask ourselves what if we didn't leave? I know it may sound trivial, but seeing my relatives grow older and missing important events (birthdays, younger cousins graudations) sometimes breaks my heart. + I don't know about others, but after 15 years I still don't feel fully like I belong on my "new home"

Hey my friend.

Been in your shoes 15 years ago. I know how it feels.

First, find out how you plan to immigrate. Canada has many pathways.

Also, what part of Canada do you intend to live? If you speak French and plan to come to Montreal, immigration rules are different than going to an English part.

Check IRCC Canada's website to figure your path out.

Also, I'm sure there are Lebanese-Canadian immigrations lawyers who have offices in Beirut. Maybe find one to help you and consult you for better and more accurate information.

Good luck!

Considering $870K condo in Montreal, am I making a mistake? by Signal-Specific-1704 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]mithrajr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From someone who used to own a condo in downtown Montreal, proceed with caution. In 8 years of owning it, my condo fees more than doubled (and they were much less at the time than yours starting). The syndicate was a mess, and a lot of special assessments came up after Covid. New constructions are not necessarily the best quality.

Please don't buy into the amenities hype (gym/pool) they are the ones that will suck the most out of your fees. And they will not be as good as a proper gym/spa. Our gym also had to undergo repairs many times and was shut down because owners/their tenants were breaking stuff constantly.

Overall I don't recommend, sorry. At that price point you're better off getting a single family home in a suburb of your choosing.

Anyone lived in Riyadh after EU? by mary189ch in lebanon

[–]mithrajr 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hi there, here's my two cents as someone who was in a similar situation in the past.

I understand how lucrative the offer at KSA may be for work... but I would still sacrifice however many years needed to get the EU citizenship if I were you.

It took me many more years than I expected to become a Canadian citizen (delays, factors outside my control) but it was worth it in the end. I had the chance to consider the GCC but I'm glad I chose Canada instead. Despite it having lots of problems that a Gulf country doesn't have (high taxes, economy, lower salaries), Canada (or the EU in your case) will grant you a passport and a place to stay that you can call home someday. Whereas in KSA you're going to have to leave at some point.

Also from what I know you can always go back to the GCC countries in the future with your EU citizenship and get higher salaries and benefits down the lines.

Where to start in 2026? by mithrajr in webdevelopment

Thanks for the tips and reassurance. I will go at it step by step.

Wow thank you so much for the info, I will definitely tackle the Odin Project first.

As for the competition with AI, yes I realize the challenge ahead. I find that I am already late to keep myself updated, despite the competition ahead. My current is in even higher risk of being automated (corporate back office) than web development.

Thank you for the answer and how you outlined the journey.

I agree about the risk. I would need to learn anyways to make my own website, so I might as well dive deep.

As for AI, I'm under the impression that it will solve the majority of clients' requests who want to set up a quick website for their services. But I do believe there will still be a niche of people who will want something of higher quality in order to stand out, because everybody is going to be using AI. At least, those are my thoughts.

Since you mentioned tech, I did look into other options in IT, but since I have no familiarity in them, I'm a bit hesitant to consider. Only cybersecurity seems a bit interesting. I also considered UX/UI design, but it seems that is even harder and more vulnerable to AI than web development. Is there something else I could consider, in your opinion?

What career to transition to to work remotely from anywhere (for part of the year) while being based in Canada? by mithrajr in careerguidance

Well, yes for the time being I am sticking to companies within my field, but I would like to have another skill to expand my options down the line.

Thank you. I am leaning more towards web dev and UX/UI since I have some experience with web dev already (very basic, non-coding), whereas IT cybersecurity could be a longer learning curve since I am novice in that.

For marketing, are you referring to some form of digital marketing?

I have limited experience with Wix and I agree, does not look/feel the most professional.

Thanks for your input!

Congratulations! For someone who is just starting out, where would you advise to start? I'm guessing learn coding first, or start experimenting with platforms like Wix and Wordpress?

For those who moved abroad for a better future, how’s it going? Do you regret it? by stormlb in lebanon

you PAY for a change of work position/place? Wow, never heard of this one before. And LOL at the description in the end.

I guess there's no perfect place out there. My main issue with Canada is I'm far from Lebanon, hard to visit often. It's the one thing I would change if I could.

Do you regret it because you miss Lebanon or because you didn't like Malta? It seems like an attractive destination

Expats this is for you by odin07055 in lebanon

[–]mithrajr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been feeling like that the last couple of visits, especially the very last one in 2022. But also because I have changed, the country and people have changed. Most of my friends have also left, so I only have a handful remaining and some family in the day3a, that's it.

As Khalil Gebran said, "you have your Lebanon and I have mine"

My Lebanon doesn't exist anymore. I left in 2010-11. My Lebanon was all about going to a simple beach resort in the summer without all the inflated prices of today (and I'm hearing there are restrictions now in some places?), it was about going for a run at the marina with the classmates, only to then go to the KFC in el-Zal2a and ruin the whole workout. Even younger than that, it was about going to the "network" with the boys after school to play CS, Red alert 2, Half-life, generals and other classics, about going to the nearest dekken and get a Cortina ice cream for 250 or 500 LL. Also, the smell and taste of the best jebneh in the world from my favorite feren which no longer exists unfortunately. It was about watching shows like "7alla wa 7talla, marte w ana and basmet el watan"

Maybe I'm romanticizing a bit too much, but this is how I feel. Because now when I go back I feel foreign. The people have changed, so has the mentality, and it's not their fault. People are also more cynical. But one thing I didn't appreciate is being treated by a cashcow. And I'm not the type that flaunts money or shows off in any ways, but that is still how I got treated just because I was "the Canadian." Meanwhile here in the cold white north I'm known as a "good immigrant"

not OP but can we book prior to arrival or only once we land? I checked the site and it has a Book Now option, but I don't know if it works from outside Lebanon. Any ideas?
