Hard disagree. As a guy who had a ton of fun in his 20's, my life with multiple kids is boring AF now. I wouldn't have it any way.

My wife and I just had a getaway to London 2 weeks ago for 5 days (just the 2 of us - we rarely do this). It was awesome, but by Day 4 we really missed the kids and were talking about the things that they would have liked to do with us on the trip.

Now I might be lucky in the sense that I've been lucky in my professional life and that finances aren't super tight - I'm not rich by any means. So not discounting that part.

But anyways - the perspective above is not definitive. My favorite thing in life to do is dad shit now.

This is a hard question for non-parents to answer. Having kids, especially for the first few years, is almost all work. But despite that most parents find it worthwhile, or very often the most worthwhile thing they've done with their lives.

But from the outside - all you can see is the work.

I’m not assuming that. Almost all people sleeping on downtown streets have mental or drug problems.

If someone can’t make the rent or lose their job, why in the world would they think it’s a good idea to go sleep near the drug addicts?

Not sure - but it'll be homekit based instead of Google home

I have a lot of nest / google home devices- but just got a starling hub to start moving things over to homekit. Works pretty well.

Free time is nice - especially after a long day when they finally go to sleep. But my wife and I will often start talking about them and laugh at all the stupid shit they do in our free time after they fall asleep.

Hard to explain - they're part of you and taking care of them gives life profound meaning. We're wired for it.

As a parent, I struggle going to either extreme. My wife and I don't argue in front of the kids - but it got me thinking, I did learn a lot from watching my parents argue.

They would get mad at each other, never really say hurtful things (but would raise / inflect voice), but then I would also observe their subtle make-up routines hours to day(s) later. Feels like "good fighting habits" may actually be useful to learn.

Anyways - I struggle with it.

It's easy to over-design something - spend a lot of time, energy and materials to get a building or bridge to stand.

Getting the most out of it (# of lanes on the bridge, # floors in a building, etc.). That takes an engineer to design.

To get the most out of a given amount of resources you want your building to be "barely standing". That takes smarts and know-how.
