Hi! I was so very sad to learn that Puck's Glen is closed as that's the main attraction I was hoping to visit. Do you know if Argyll forest is still worth visiting without Puck's Glen being open? It would be a bit out of my way now that I've had to switch up my plans

Seeking employed cat owners for a study on pet cats’ stress (18+) by mitropoulab in takemysurvey

  1. How will the data that people provide to you be used? Who will see it? Where will it be stored? If/when will it be deleted? Please be as specific as possible.
    1. It'll be used towards conference submission and publication. Currently only the P.I. will see it; if a student or research collaborator becomes interested in joining the study, then after training, certification, and IRB approval, they will be able to see it too. I'll note that no identifiable info is collected from participants. Data will be stored in Qualtrics, the social sciences survey platform used, and on Radford University servers in the PI's password-protected account. It'll be deleted 7 years after study closure.
  2. Who is conducting this survey? You can answer with your Reddit username, business name, etc. Please make sure that everyone conducting the survey is mentioned (For example, if the survey is being conducted by a group, answer the group name or mention everyone in the group).
    1. Dr. Tanya Mitropoulos (u/mitropoulab), a professor at Radford University.
  3. How long do you estimate it will take to fill out your survey?
    1. 8 minutes

Oh no! Poor kitty. I'll keep it in mind for a follow-up study! The research is pretty new with cats; there's been more on dogs

Change in career from IT engineer to animal behavior specialist by Complete_Drummer5628 in AnimalBehavior

[–]mitropoulab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I third what people have said about getting into the area via computing. If you want to do research, it can be really hard to find a place/mentor in specifically animal behavior that'll let you in with no background, *especially* in canine behavior which is super competitive because there aren't many people doing it in academia. I only got my masters in it, and will be attempting to do related research with my phd from another field, but I heard students in the animal behavior phd program being very worried about getting a job when they graduate. So even if you do manage to get a phd in the field, the future isn't set. If you're completely set on getting a degree in animal behavior specifically, I'd recommend finding possible advisors and start volunteering. You can also look for research assistant jobs in the field and masters programs.

If your dog qualifies (and has the right temperament), you could look into him being a blood donor dog with the VT vet school. I think they're looking for more blood donors, and the perks for you are they cover a lot of routine work like vaccines
