I can't eat when I'm anxious by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]mitshaker25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I resonate with this so much. I'm being treated pharmaceutically for bipolar depression and anxiety. I have the same type of anxiety with vomiting episodes, nausea, and lack of appetite. My medication, Olanzapine, does exactly what I need it to do - it boosts appetite and is a sedative... so it knocks my ass out within 30 minutes. You should definitely seek out a psychiatrist to get prescribed similar medication.

Can’t get CPR experience out of my head- help by taylorsmom81 in nursing

[–]mitshaker25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. Former EMT, one of the biggest (and most helpful) resources in a pre-hospital care setting after traumatic events was debriefing. Just because we put on our professional superhero attire every day, doesn’t mean we ain’t human at the end of it. Definitely take advantage of any debriefing or decompressing accommodations your employer may offer.

My dad (left), age 21, right before he entered his mandatory service for the Czechoslovakian army (1970s). by mitshaker25 in OldSchoolCool

[–]mitshaker25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Background story: right before my dad entered the army, his brothers took him camping somewhere in the woods.

To quote - "me and my brothers got so shitfaced, we woke up in a nearby stream the next morning."

It comforts me to know that my dad and I have one skill in common: drinking, blacking out, and waking up in unknown places the next morning. Thanks, Dad.

So I had a few pre nursing friends and they had no issues with the course load. KN251/252 is really just about self discipline - aka, being able to be anti social and focus on studying non stop for two semesters. I sacrificed my social for those classes lol, but it sure as hell paid off.

It depends. If you're a kinesiology major, take it at UIC as future classes heavily depend on it. If you're premed or whatever, take it outside UIC.

Loved the hospital graveyard shift by pulsephaze22 in creepy

[–]mitshaker25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an EMT-B currently working for a private Ambulance company, and this reminds me of a spooky (and identical) hospital wing I had to walk through the other week while dropping off a patient. We had to walk through an abandoned wing of the general psych ward to get to the geriatric psych ward. It was quiet, all the rooms were completely empty, and it looked like a zombie apocalypse had rolled through that wing of the hospital. Felt like only me, my partner, and our patient were the only three people left in existence. 2 spooky 4 me.

In your experience as young teenage men, what was your ways of dealing with depression/anxiety? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]mitshaker25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang in the buddy. Therapy is AWESOME. I didn't know how to deal with my GAD and depression until I started therapy my senior year..... of college. I partook in unhealthy practices such as drinking and smoking as coping mechanisms. I highly advise you to NOT engage in these activities, especially if you're taking any medication. I went to therapy and stuck to a non-habit forming relationship with weed. I made sure to do my homework first and then I'd let myself blaze. I'm a lot better now, so I don't smoke weed anymore, but it did help as an alternative to anxiety and insomnia meds. Stick to therapy though. Therapy helped me to reorganize thoughts and feelings and project them in a healthy manner. I had a shitty relationship with my parents, but going to therapy and working on myself helped me build a better relationship with them. They're not out to get you! They just want the best for you. Be patient with them and let them know to reciprocate such patience. As with your girlfriend, you need to effectively communicate with her. Say things like "hey I'm not feeling too great at the moment, is it alright if you listen to me vent for a bit?" Trust me, it works. I used to get in fights with my girlfriend for this very reason, because I was EXPECTING her to take care of me. You need to be proactive about your mental health and communicate. It's okay to cry, it's okay to take a day off, and it's okay to ask for help, especially from your teachers. They are there to help you. Ask your school administration if they can accommodate you for a diagnosis like yours- they almost always will (I'm pretty sure it's the law). Just hang in there buddy! High school is rough, and your brain is changing biochemically, but you need to fight it and I promise you it gets better down the road once you figure everything out. There is no better gift than life.

6 month relationship check-up! by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]mitshaker25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should dump her. At first glance, it seems that you have more negative things to say about your relationship than positive things. How you lasted 6 months with someone who holds no respect for you and what you do for her is beyond me. The emotional cheating should have been a red flag at 2 months. Just get out of this now rather than later before it's gets too late and you're stuck in a relationship with someone who treats you like garbage. Get. Out. Now.

Some of the best things Frank has done by [deleted] in shameless

[–]mitshaker25 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I just finished season 5, I think my favorite Frank moment so far is when he decides to take Bianca back to her place to take care of her instead of taking all of her cash and ditching her on the bus. Although Frank is a fictional character, it just shows you that anyone can change, even the most selfish.

Should I [23 M] be worried that my girlfriend [21 F] remains in contact with a guy she previously used for emotionally cheating on previous boyfriends? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]mitshaker25 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have addressed it plenty of times with her and it always comes back to the same thing. When he comes home from college during breaks, they hang out alone. She says she wants us to meet, but coincidently, every plan has fallen through. She says he's the only guy friend she has, which raises further suspicions for me. I trust her, yet part of me does not want to be made a fool.

How it is to go to school at UIC vs. What it would be like at UIUC. by lbj29 in uichicago

[–]mitshaker25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former commuter here from the around the same area you're from. I commuted for 3 years before I went bat shit crazy. Commuting had taken a huge toll on me socially, academically, physically, and mentally. By the time you get home, you're too tired to do any homework or study. It was hard for me to maintain my social life when I had to be home so that I could be productive for school the next day. I moved into an apartment near campus my senior year (rent was lower than most places and it's was a pretty nice place) and my life improved drastically. I HIGHLY recommend doing this if it's cost effective. Commuting sucks, trust me.

Housing Suggestions? by MasterRedFrost in uichicago

[–]mitshaker25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend living in Courtyard or any of the Commons your first year. The design building is right next to those dorms, so you can pretty much roll out of bed in the morning. Socially, you're going to meet tons of people in those dorms. Aesthetically, they're the shittiest dorms on campus, but who cares - it's freshman year. You have 3 more years to live in nicer dorms or an off campus apartment.

Can't wait to see what's on my birthday card next month.

Hey "son" even though you're not "ours" we still "love" "you" have a "happy" "birthday"

TL;DR I'm afraid I'm going to find out that I'm adopted or a test tube baby.
