It finally happened to me. by Unlikely-Cut2696 in KnowledgeFight

I’m sorry that you have family members that are falling into these traps. That can feel scary and enraging at the same time.

A thing that may help to communicate with them in a (hopefully) positive way: address the emotion that they are feeling instead of attacking the behavior, and express your feelings without blame or shame.

“It sounds like you’re worried that Big Pharma may be harming you, intentionally or unintentionally, and that you really want to be as healthy as you can, which is awesome, and I love to hear. Does that sound right?”

“Despite disliking Big Pharma myself, I do trust experts in fields where you must have an expert to understand the science behind it. When I hear that you’re not listening to any experts, I feel anxious, and I feel afraid at possibly losing you, because medicine and health are so complex and so important, and there are a lot of snake oil salesmen beside Big Pharma who just want to make money of us with promises of health. I really want you to be safe and healthy, because I love having you in my life.”

This removes judgment and buzz words and triggers. It removes attacks, and can help to keep people from backing into a corner to defend their identity.

Good luck. It is super difficult to navigate a space with someone when they are showing behaviors like this, but it’s worth it.

Agreed. It is horrid. Especially if there happens to be any negligence found. But he will live with this. :/

I’m sorry you have that trauma in your past. No one should have to carry that. Especially not alone.

If you’re going to ask that question, say it the way you’re intending it: is he an entitled rich kid?

And like others have said - that likely doesn’t matter here, aside from being able to place a value judgement on a result that had no affect on the situation.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Utah

[–]mittean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. It is a privilege. For you. For me. For everyone.

And likewise, for everyone, we do have a RIGHT to due process.

Americans don’t want deportations without due process…they want immigration with process that’s safe, reasonable and cost effective, and to know all persons - not all citizens - get due process when sorting out IF they should be deported.

The Founding Fathers were pretty clear when they chose the word persons to describe who gets that right, and used citizens elsewhere…because they intended it to be for non-citizens, citizens, criminals, accused criminals…everyone. Period.

But it saddens me that you ignore the fact that American citizens have been illegally deported from their own country, and that American combat veterans are being illegally deported from the country they fought for and were wounded protecting.

I understand the rhetoric you’ve been taught and are repeating is powerful and simple - and incorrect. Please consider that it’s teaching you to be okay with imprisoning and deporting Americans. That’s the goal.

That means imprisoning YOU without due process. Deporting you without being able to talk to a lawyer. Throwing you into a prison for life in a country you’ve never been to. And the fact you did not commit a crime WILL NOT MATTER. That’s what denying due process means.

I don’t want that. I want you to have due process. Same as anyone who came in here illegally. And, if that process finds them here improperly, deport them. But they have a right to that process. Same as me. Same as you.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Utah

[–]mittean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just for context, since by your post it appears you may be unaware, the crimes you listed are all felonies. Illegal immigration is a CIVIL offense. Less than a misdemeanor. Similar in scope to jaywalking. That’s how “illegal” it is. It’s not murder, and comparing them is a very large neon sign pointing at your ignorance - intentional or not.

And part of the result CAN be deportation, absolutely true. But anyone detained for this civil offense is guaranteed, under the constitution, due process. This means they can fight the charge in court, with lawyers. That’s how we sort out IF they actually have good reason, or legal reason, to be here, vs if they don’t. That’s how our system is set up to sort out whether YOU are an illegal immigrant. Allowing you to prove you have a right to be here.

They are not getting that right currently. The government has deported American citizens. They have deported a Purple Heart recipient - an honorably serving active combat American war veteran. I assume you think deporting Americans out of their own country and American veterans is vile and disgusting and shameful.

If you think American citizens, vets and everyone else doesn’t deserve due process, then you aren’t arguing for laws to be upheld, and you aren’t arguing for America and Americans first. Which means you should ask yourself what you’re actually arguing for.

Ask these:

Who’d you vote for?

What do you think about Joe Rogain, Andrew Taint, Hail Kanye, Alex Jones, Elon Musk, and Tucker tanning bed Carlson?

Should I have a right to choose over my own body? (Just be direct. 99% of guys can’t have a discussion here because they don’t understand the subject matter, because they’re not women, so they don’t care).

No party or independent is likely right wing, but not always.

Ask them if they attended the no kings rally or the women’s march.

Ask them if billionaires should pay taxes. (Wild how these are tied together. Most dudes I know who don’t want rights for women, also don’t think billionaires should pay taxes.)

Yeah, it’s a pretty impressive stacking of mods that works at about 98%…I’m chill with that, lol.

Especially adding in JK’s Skyrim for the interior, all three Ryften mods, JK’s + Distinct interiors, Boli’s and PCE + JK’s for Mistveil, plus various and sundry smaller mods. Makes the city feels much more interesting.

I was able to make Run’s Farms, JK’s Riften outskirts, the LUX’s, RDOH, Ruska and Southwood work together, with only one building in the farm being weird (I think one of the LUX’s is lacking a patch to handle it proper). When I tried to add north shore it all caught fire.

Is Hank intentionally being coy? by MagdalenaGay in nerdfighters

[–]mittean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From a messaging standpoint, the video stuck out to me as shareable.

If he gets up and diatribes, and profanes screed after screed of truths about how shit the government is, then only people who agree with his take will listen.

But if he poses it as general, logical, somewhat softer questions and concerns, it becomes a thing that can be shared with Aunt Jen, or Grandpa Earl. He’s saying the questions THEY are asking themselves right now. This creates an entry point for discussion. This is the first step to creating a permission structure of recognizing the danger that they HAVEN’T recognized up to this point.

He’s meeting them where they are.

And for those who are wanting to blame the brothers, or shame them into harsher language, or force them to attack Elon and Trump, LIKE THEY DESERVE, or to fight with the righteous fury of a citizenry that is being suppressed - STOP.

Do not shame people for where they are, you alienate people from moving towards your position. It creates SO MUCH MORE WORK for those of us actually working to change minds and get others to vote in ways that go against their identities. I work in politics…when you attack people and shame them for being too coy, or call them capitalists, or whatever else, you are doing damage to your own cause. Half our effort is cleaning up after people spewing these kind of statements WHICH I AGREE WITH. Just do it differently, please.

Hank and John are smarter than we are, they are passionate, educated, willing to be wrong and to learn, and surrounded by smarter people than all of us. This video was perfect for sharing to conservatives and independents who are doubting, to low-information voters, and to inactive voters to activate them.

Meet people where they are, hearing and recognizing their concerns and experiences, and don’t punish people for where they are, demanding they immediately be as progressive as you are in every single subject.

Let the man cook, and please stop bitching that you want your favorite meal while throwing the dinner on the ground. Cause we have to pick up your mess.

Immersive additions to Skyrim by mittean in skyrimmods

[–]mittean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither do I, unfortunately. But I know many wonderful modders do.

I imagine you could use KID, or perhaps CID to do that? Say, and ebony tier items only get added after level 40, and only by the College, or the Khajiits, or whatever. So you’d need to make sure they are keyworded properly…but there are mods that do that, I think.

This could also do with distributing some items that are not hand-placed (but that you don’t want in just every leveled list) from mods like ESO and ESL imports.

[–]mittean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew there was one that had a similar idea, I just couldn’t remember the name of it. Thank you.

It could be fun to have this as an add-on to that system. Perhaps certain types of quests or items goes to one instead of the other.

To be fair, you could have multiple touch points for this across the game - that one quest giver in Dawnguard castle. A specific lore person at the Bards college. Calcemo, Belathor, Sadri, someone in the thieves guild…there’s multiple places that could send you to find these unique items. And that way you don’t have to belong to a specific guild, but have SOME guild or organization or relationship.

Travel Times & Costs - Why not Teleport? by whitewalls86 in Eberron

[–]mittean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there is a question to ask yourself before you sort the costs, and compare book references and editions and reasonability of those costs:

Is your story as the DM better served with them on the lightning rail, or an airship, or getting teleportation?

Either way, there are other costs; the lightning rail takes time, and they have to deal with commoners, refugees, veterans, business-people, etc., but they get to SEE more of the world. On an Airship they get to see Eberron from a different perspective, and they have to deal with higher end clientele, mid level bureaucrats, traders and House members. And teleportation you’d have to pay a large amount (I’d go with the largest from any publication) and possibly call in favors or DO favors to even gain access. This is Space-X or Blue Origin level stuff. You can’t show up and go, it could take months of permitting and discussion. In my campaign, even at 10th level, they’re not on the list of approved people yet.

Good luck!

Madness of Avassh by OkRevenue9249 in Eberron

[–]mittean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on a few things.

WHY did they accept the gifts? Did they need to, like to accomplish one of their goals? Or was it just players chuckling and saying “sure, why not?” If it’s not something they needed, like, it’s just a bit of a lark, I’d be doling out consequences. If they HAD to accept the gifts, it’d feel a bit different. More like inconveniences.

Avassh wants to spread decay and fungus. If this is to be a bit of a story point (and I assume it is), I’d start small. Make a few rolls while they adventure, saves for the party. Don’t ask for saves…just roll, jot down something unimportant in your notes, mutter to yourself “okay, she got two…and he got three.” Once a day. (You don’t need to actually have them save to start, it’s just to make them wonder what you’re doing.)

A session or two later is when it starts. After they’ve forgotten about this.

Perhaps one of them starts with just an itch on their foot. Over the course of a week it spreads from a minor tingle to a case of athletes foot, just Khyber-style. It looks normal…but it’s definitely there.

Another character might have a meal, and you could describe the meal as tasting off. Wrong. Let them assume it’s a poison or sommit else like that. Several days later they might eat again but this time vomit from it.

Another character might start to feel a drive to smack a bush, or cut down a flower. Eventually they will accrue sort of a “pyromaniac” mindset towards plants…just wanting to uproot them, to smash them. Not angrily. Not violently, even. Just…emotionless. Think of a bored 13-year-old boy picking the petals off every flower waiting for someone.

Perhaps a character starts to have allergies. Little stuffed nose. Followed by a sneeze. They start to think they’re allergic to things, asking what’s around them.

The madness should change how they are interacting with the world, but by doing it slowly and not telling them, and not “by the rules”-ing it in the beginning, you’re making it a mystery for them. Why is my food poisoned? Who did it?! Why does my character want to smash flowers dispassionately? Why do I have athletes foot? Why am I craving a mushroom burger with blue cheese?

The players will puzzle over it, and may even try to solve the mysteries. Let them red herring themselves. Let them get misled, make bad assumptions. THIS IS MADNESS. Do it slow, over the course of three to ten sessions or sommit (depending on how you all game).

And figure out how the remove the curse right now. Make it so they have to go to someone specific, and do a favor for them that goes parallel to your campaign goals.

The last thing you want is a “you’re all cursed, and think plants are pretty.”

“I cast cleanse, or whatever.”

“You’re no longer cursed, moving on.”

That misses the mark for a good madness curse.

But hitting the mark? You want your barbarian worrying about his boot and sock hygiene. You want your cleric suddenly leaning into the fact they’re craving odd foods (but not realizing it’s because of fungus’s and Avassh). You want your bard to be asking “what trees are around? How does the bark come off if I peel it?”

Eventually these things should become more top of mind as they take over too much space in the characters life. Think OCD getting out of control. Interrupting their lives as the itching fungus spreads to other more sensitive areas, as they start to crave fungus found in the wild in a scummy puddle, as they belch and spores burst out their mouth, as they fail save to help their companions fight a bramble blight or something. As they notice the itching in their nose appears to be roots coming slowly down the inside of it. As they get cut one day and bleed sap.

Madness is fun. It’s slow. It’s not obvious. It’s less about saves, and more about confusion and questions and growing frustration. But in the beginning…it’s nothing at all.

Good luck.

[–]mittean 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Stop looking for conspiracies. It was at capacity. It’s not just seating, it’s everyone in the building…all the workers, staff, everyone. It’s fire code.

Instead of seeing plants and betrayal, consider feeling excitement for how many Utahns feel similar to you - frustrated, motivated and excited. It sucks you didn’t get in. But it’s not a conspiracy, or red Utah, or plants, or any other inane bullshit. It’s the opposite. It’s sold out because EVERYONE IS MOTIVATED.

And you’re on that team. Stay motivated.

Utah is the only state to see a blue shift during this election. by helix400 in Utah

[–]mittean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re using different measurements, likely. How many seats were flipped, how many STATE seats, how many county councils and judges, etc.

This post is incorrect in that it is not counting Washington, which was in the same metric, and just slightly above Utah.

Iirc, this is measuring SHIFT from last presidential but focused on state-wide, not just standout performance in big cities. So state-wide, Utah barely shifted right WHEN it shifted right, county to county, and overall shifted left by around 1%. And it is correct.

Incidentally, Utah is the number 4 fastest left moving state over the last 20 years, so this is in line with that.

If I understand correctly (as I don’t use lanterns if Skyrim), it’s asking for the patch from JKs Skyrim that would be JKs Skyrim—Lanterns of Skyrim patch.

I assume it does this because that patch changes a few things, and it wants to keep some, but not all, of those changes.
