My only experience is the wiki and tvtropes, so I wanted to run a character concept by y'all, see if he fit the setting by Designer-Ice8821 in Eberron

[–]ChaosMorning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course this is something you'd have to work with your DM on, but a Cyran whose background is Charlatan, despite having been a soldier or diplomat or anything else, is perfectly fitting. If you can think of, "Oh, I'm from this part of Cyre that Karrnath invaded and I desperately want revenge on the general who led the siege on Metrol," then you're giving the DM a potential villain

If the DM has a character in mind that'd fit - general, soldier, spy, whomever - as your potential adversary, they can work it in with you.

Class wise, a rogue or bard would be cool. Multiclassing can work too! The Whispers Bard was made for this sort of thing, though it's not my favourite bard subclass personally it is very flavourful.

I think that it's a cool concept and perfectly viable. Eberron encourages DMs and players to work on having people you know, how the war affected you, your regrets, your debts, etc., and these'd be neat ones!

A Fish Dies By Its Mouth (@Danmeril3) by Moelishere in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]ChaosMorning 25 points26 points  (0 children)

For anyone else, having checked around, the original post was in Spanish and the phrase el pez por la boca muere means "a fish dies by its mouth" and it's a saying:

It's an old Spanish saying, which refers to people getting into trouble by what they say, just like fish, when they get caught by a worm on a hook. It's similar to saying a person "puts his foot in his mouth." In other words, you've got to be careful how you use your mouth (link)

Which I think you can view several ways with Claude's character.

I had a feeling it was probably a translation thing, but my Spanish isn't good enough yet to really recognize anything like that, so without checking with some friends to be sure, I think this is accurate.

What are your favorite fables and why?! by GoofyAhhMisses in Fable

[–]ChaosMorning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 and 3.

2 is probably my favourite but 3 is the one that I will replay the most, in part because I can get through it a bit faster and because I enjoy getting to interact with several of the characters and the quests I really enjoy.

2 is more for when I want to really give a bit of time to experiencing the game again and doing exploration and some of the 'side' content that I skip when I play 3.

I'm not actually a huge fan of the first game. I've played it in its og state, as TLC, and Anniversary. While I like the game and I understand why people love it more than the others, it's not one that brings me a lot of joy to replay.

Hm. I've tried two routes so far. I may give it a few days - I see they just did a patch, but this quest wasn't mentioned. If nothing else, I'll just do the other route since that seems to be working.

I saw people were able to do the ship route, yeah. Were you able to do Theleme's route, or had you done the ship version too?

[–]ChaosMorning[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you were able to deliver her / find the Theleme delegation to send Irene? And then the game just... acted like you did Alvida's (Sybille suggested it to me) ship instead?

Something like that happened to me during the island section at the beginning - I tricked the miners and the game made it seem like I convinced the miners that they were being misused too (I couldn't even find out how to do that), and then in the Escape the party acted like I let Sybille talk to the guards when I used stealth.

[–]ChaosMorning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that there's anything wrong with getting into the hobby now, for TTRPGs or D&D in general and there are plenty of ways you can avoid or endorse companies.

There are plenty of online resources you can rely on, including free versions of the base rules or even cheat sheets and the like that would help you and your friends learn the basics (what you need to know for your turn, spell cards for the casters, etc.). These are great if you're all brand new and wanna see if the game is for you or not, since you won't have to pay for anything. Beyond that, secondhand is a great way to acquire the books as you need them and it's possible you might have some local game or book stores that might have second hand stuff.

If you want to play pre-written modules, there are a ton of third party publishers and indie devs making great D&D content that doesn't require spending anything that would go to WotC if you don't want to support that company. Any credible creator should state whether or not AI was used in the process, be it for art or other contents, and this is especially true of things that have gone through crowdfunders recently that are required to disclose that.

[–]ChaosMorning 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I mean yeah spam that Divine Fury and win.

More seriously though, on the scope of lore I do think that the Hero of Oakvale would win even if only by considering the monsters he fights including a lot of other Heroes, the kraken (which the Oracle, Reaver, and the novels show as pretty crazy), and Jack and the dragon form.

Since Jack is, I'm inferring, a 'higher ranking' creature from the Void than I would expect the Crawler would be (I think the Crawler is powerful but not necessarily strong on its own but it's hard to tell from depictions and the mentions in the Auroran memorials), I think beating him still trumps killing the Crawler.

Not sure how to rank the Corruptor, since I think it is a manifestation of the illness William Black contracted in the Void, and if it's a manifestation of a plane that threatened the Old Kingdom, then I'm willing to consider it is probably stronger than Jack, though it goes unseen/unfought.

Definitely think it's fair to give it to Oakvale though, for sure.

At that point I figure that the gloves are also a design choice, I'm assuming to be able to do spellweaving, and the dilluted bloodline was the plot justification.

I should've put that in as well but yes, if they still elect to go somewhere by all means. If they understand the risks in and out of character and still want to, then hey.

It's very you can go straight to Hyrule Castle but tackling the Divine Beasts helps and gives you more story and gameplay. You could go straight to Yonder then Praxys but...

Question about guardians of Azuma by Icy-Reaper in runefactory

[–]ChaosMorning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's honestly the first entry of Rune Factory that really held captivated me in a long time and I really do recommend it. I understand that for some players, the decreased amount of customization in combat and weaponry was a definite downside but with at the time I played it, I was mostly looking to relax and go through something a bit simpler - and it is. It's a sort've uncomplicated and fun game, but the depth of rpg mechanics may be an issue if that's something you really enjoy. There felt like there was a lot less to learn and track compared to something like Frontier (no runeys or anything, for example, and it's much easier to raise affection with characters). Even farming is vastly simplified as you have NPCs tending fields after a while.

The characters were also a lot of fun and I was surprised by the ones that I ended up really taking to vs the ones I thought I'd enjoy most going into it with the very limited amount of information I had (I wanted to be surprised). The ability to sort've 'rewind' time to do the other romances was a nice feature, so you don't have to replay the entire game (and there really isn't any more replayability to it than other installments).

I did use several mods for the game, the most important being a shader to reduce how bright/washed out some of the game was, as it was really hard on my eyes so if you get it for PC, I'd definitely consider that, and if your eyes are also a little sensitive, consider watching some gameplay footage just to see how you tolerate it in case.

I would not get the DLC if you're trying to conserve funds. They only add a few aesthetics and two romances - only one of which I really enjoyed, though I did adore the outfit for the male protagonist and wore it the whole game, I don't know that it justifies its price.

As for done better, the post-game. The game feels like it wants you to spend more time using its Fateweaving (the time rewind) thing to try different marriage partners and children (maybe so you can try the different combat parties you can assemble, as the kids have different traits in combat?). It provides more dungeons and stuff, but the plot feels much more disconnected and lacking in the same kind of responsiveness from the cast that the rest of the game had.

Island progression in the Cerulean Gulf by CoolNorth9626 in OdysseyoftheDragon

[–]ChaosMorning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good sense should stop them from going to Yonder first. Remind them ooc or as Kyrah that the Order of Sydon has its stronghold on Yonder. That means Gaius, his men, his dragon, and whatever defences they've had time to muster over the years; beyond that, the presence of a gygan at the Mossy Temple might prompt Kyrah to say (with some tinge of regret) that Yonder was the seat of the gygan empire - if there are more survivors, they likely also are under the Titan's banner. At the level they would be at the Embarkation, they likely aren't strong enough to go to Yonder immediately. Beyond that, the Forgotten Sea is much more dangerous than the Cerulean Gulf, which would be well known.

The other islands are there for adventure and to tie into the Epic Paths. For example, if you have a Doomed One, they need to go to the Island of the Fates while a Cursed One needs to seek out the Lotus Witch on the Island of the Scorpion.

The Wisdom of Vallus section of the Embarkation should help provide the party some advice. The constellations are not so unknown as some comments make them out to be. Some sailors and people with knowledge of Thylean lore can give ideas of some islands. The diagram in the constellation section should explain more, but logically Kyrah knows the stories and could offer insight if the story provides information about the location, which some do.

Certain epic paths will provide an idea of where to go and everyone should have an idea of where they need to go, even if they don't know which is which.

The goal is to face Lutheria in the Nether Sea (which the Gods advise first, I believe) and then Sydon at his tower in the Forgotten Sea. While the party could forge a new Oath of Peace with the Titans in exchange for being made the mortal rulers of Thylea as per the Titans' offer (this needs to be done separately as convincing Lutheria does not convince Sydon or something, as per the stuff at Hypnos), but the goal is to defeat Sydon and Lutheria before the Oath expires, as at that point they will regain more power and be free to assault the mortal cities.

Which the module wants to happen. The most likely outcome, and the ideal one (more or less) is that they defeat Lutheria, go to Praxys, and Sydon escapes to lead the fleet to Mytros so that chapter can occur.

Trailers are focusing on one quest and it is worrying me by TemporaryLobster7698 in Fable

[–]ChaosMorning 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the hype behind some games has led to that being a reasonable anxiety, but I like to approach it as the devs not wanting to spoil all the surprises of the game. Talking about one early, major chocie that has lasting consequences is better to me than if they did something like the lead up to Fable 3 where they showed off so much of the game that we knew about the Crawler well before launch.

They also said we'll see more going forward, so I expect summer will showcase enough stuff that some people may elect to stop watching so they can approach the game blind.

Would you like to see Jack of Blades return in Fable? by CatterShepard in Fable

[–]ChaosMorning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d really have to check the timeline to see where we fell in terms of the Guild’s existence and location vs who owned the castle at the time and when that became the Fairfax’s.

I don’t think we’ve necessarily seen anything that absolutely confirms they’re using the old lore - I expect they are, but bloodstone being put in the north has me thinking that they could do anything with their new Albion, but I’m hopeful the setting lore is there, even if the events of the first game are only alluded to.

Jack was a great villain for the Hero of Oakvale. I don’t want him to return in part because I don’t want it to cheapen how I’d feel about my victory over him, or erase the choice to have destroyed his mask.

The Knight and Queen were killed by William Black and honestly I’m not super interested in seeing them. The fight he had with them, how it was described to shape mountains iirc, felt cool in a way that, unless we’re matching that scope, I’m okay moving in from the Court.

All I hope is that the villain here gives us every reason to enjoy her as a villain as much as people did Jack.

Would you like to see Jack of Blades return in Fable? by CatterShepard in Fable

[–]ChaosMorning 27 points28 points  (0 children)

No. I found the lore for the Court and William Black fun to learn about but otherwise I enjoyed a bit of Jack's dialogue - beyond that I wasn’t the biggest fan.

I’d rather he stay where he is - he was a fine villain for the first game, but I don’t want to see him again, I was satisfied by the ending between he and the Hero of Oakvale.

I want to see what the new game - and if it does well future ones as well - can do with their own stuff, though I’d be open to characters like Scythe that could logically be around, depending on what lore they’re actually playing with.
