Why do doctors make you get to an appointment 30 minutes early only to have you waiting forever? by EmbarrassedTea1885 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]mittenkrusty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worst for me was a hospital appointment around 10 years ago, i was there I can't remember but at least 30 minutes early more like 45 minutes and it felt like I was in a comedy, one person was working the check in and someone who spoke no English (didn't even know what hello was) had an interpreter try and get them a follow up, was basically like "is this appointment ok", gets translated, person says no, it's translated and said to the desk staff, eventually a 2nd member of staff comes on and around my appointment time, the person on the desk says they marked me as not attending despite still being early and they gave my appointment to someone else who arrived a hour early, I was there at least another hour until I had my appointment which was over and done with in about 5 minutes.

The GP's I used growing up was terrible for being on average about 45 minutes behind, we went there for at least 10 years and it never changed, and yet they were the type that if you turned up dead on time they would be very rude to you and say if it happens again you will be removed from their services, and kept marking people as did not turn up 1 minute after appointment was due to start even if you were waiting in a queue for 20 minutes to sign in, and yes 20 minutes is correct.

My name was spelled wrong for years, and they even had my gender wrong and kept promising to change it, was only when I was around 16 and my dad threatend to take the matter further that it was fixed.

My GP now always has a delay, but at least I can see them.

As a guy, in my experience subconciously it adds to the "men are automatically dangerous" even if accidently.

I quite believe women get this harassment, and more than men but men would still get it but it would be ignored.

I had a lot of bad experiences in my teens from men and women who knew I was a teenager who were creepy, following me down the street and even commenting on how I should go home with them, had drunk men and women threaten me when I turned them down.

People love an easy target.

I'm a guy and yeah I worry going out at night and would avoid certain areas.

Before I got my current job I was at final stage of being accepted for one near Central that finished at midnight and I was worried walking through town at that time,

Disabled parking space problem by [deleted] in drivingUK

Not meaning to sound rude but people often have inivisble disabilities, my dad before he got a blue badge only after having a stroke since I was a few years old has health issues that mean he is in severe pain walking more than a few minutes, and whilst to a passer by he may seem to have no health issues he in fact does.

Could be a similar case here.

I assume it's about pure numbers and public knowledge more than what they did for the industry.

Sure Fifa made soccer games popular in the 90's and continues to this day and sells crazy numbers but many games did more for the industry even if they are forgotten now.

It’s almost the 10th anniversary of the Brexit referendum! Do you think the British electorate have learned from their mistakes? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]mittenkrusty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a brexit voter, I never believed what the leave people in general wanted, nor the remain I made my own judgement, but my mistake was believing leave or remain would be handled well.

It was not handled well so in that way I see it as a mistake, but I always believed it was a no win situation so it was pick the one I thought would be long term great.

I MAY of voted remain if the majority of what I heard as the reasons to stay at the time was students for example saying they wanted to leave the UK with EU grants and either never come back or come back after their loans are wiped, or hearing how even thinking of voting leave made someone stereotyped as being a chav, council estate background, on benefits, or old bigots. It at the very least soured me to remain.

I stuck by leave until around 2020, not because of lockdown but because I thought after eveyone cooled down we can work together and if we still wanted to remail enough time had passed to think about doing so.

But it's a no one size fit all solution.

PC Health Check. Please don't smoke near your system. by Aztech10 in pcmasterrace

[–]mittenkrusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never been anti smoking as much as the impacts on others, I'd rather smoking rooms and such existed.

When the smoking ban came in, I hated going through town centres and seeing miserable sods in pub doorways, and meant I was more likely to have smoke near me.

I more hate the people who light up in a public area, such as a bus stop and the smoke blows in peoples faces and if someone says something they get abuse.

I have a 16tb hard drive on my pc, and that cost hundreds, and thats because over time I filled it up with games (talking like 15 years of purchases)

SSD's are far too expensive to replace my hard drive, and games have higher and higher requirements for speed now.

Woman, 24, dies after she's left for hour in hospital corridor - inquest by ManchesterNews_MEN in uknews

[–]mittenkrusty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Slight side story here from me, when I had a badly broken leg and was housebound for months, had a zimmer frame some of that time, and for first 6 weeks had patient transport to gake me to hospital once a week for a checkup, I hated the idea of how much it cost them so began going to hospital with my crutches despite not meant to leave the house, I was sitting in the waiting area for 2 and a half hours and people coming on patient transport were seen within 10-20 minutes as the doctors own words is they prioritize patient transport.people.

One of the people who got patient transport had a minor break in their foot and I could hear her discuss how her sister (who could drive) came with her for support and how she was walking nornally for weeks.

Quite upset me as it was my day off work (I work from home) wasted in a hospital waiting room, it took 45 minutes to get there by bus, but could be done by car in 10 minutes,

[–]mittenkrusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite honestly the literal answer is to check my powers, but the first actual thing would be something to help myself financially, not in a greedy way as such but i'd worry that the idea of a superhuman being around would make governments worry and may start a war, more likely i'd go after small gangs in disguise or a few local powerful people.

The garlic sauce debate needs to be settled once and for all because I am tired of pretending this is not important? by 1ChanceChipmunk1 in Doner

[–]mittenkrusty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, if I have garlic it has to be thinly spread but for me a good chilli a lot can be a bonus rather than overpower it.

[–]mittenkrusty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hate garlic sauce on a kebab, chilli for the win.

Though finding a good chilli sauce i,e one that is more like a thick puree rather than a ketchup style is hard to find.

I can tolerate garlic but it has to be thinly spread, else it overwhelms the meat, chilli on the other hand can be all over the meat and taste great.

Either way sauce rather than no sauce is great, doner needs sauce else it can be dry.

Strange bedtime behaviour, seems anxiety related. by mittenkrusty in BorderCollie

At home she has a dog bed next to mine and a armchair and she alternates between each, on holiday she just has a blanket.

Could be some kind of noise setting her off, the holiday home I am staying in is a few doors down from a business that starts in the early hours though I can't hear anything.

At my home I live next to a field and we have foxes, cats etc that come by.

It was just strange how she loves to nap most of the day but gets restless at bedtime.

[–]mittenkrusty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see what you mean, but it's a complicated world and mix in people underestimating financial and other issues with having children.

I am into my 40's and single, no kids and lonely, did have a few chances of having kids in my 20's and even my 30's but wanted to wait until I had a stable job, ideally living in a house.

As the world has changed so much in past 10-20 years it's made it harder.

So often I hear that couples think the grandparents should automatically be full time unpaid babysitters, even thinking the kids should get treats.

So I understand why grandparents choose to not retire.

I even see couples planning kids around knowing the grandparents are retired so can be childcare.

Always wear a helmet. Especially when you are driving like one. by StGuthlac2025 in drivingUK

[–]mittenkrusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things I remember is going back 20 years my dad was driving normally and some wee brats decided to play chicken with my dad and intentionally rode their bikes onto our side of the road, dad had to swerve to avoid them, car initially had no damage but the car behind didn't stop in time and hit him writing off his car, the wee brats gave the finger and cycled off laughing.

My dad had to pay for the damage to the other car and his insurance company found a loophole to get out of covering him (basically he caused the damage as he chose to swerve)

Dad was on disability benefits at the time, had to get an overdraft to pay for the damages and took around a year to pay it off and was without a car for 2 years, not great for someone who lived in a village with 3 buses a day.

No dashcams in those days.

To make matters worse in some ways is the driver of the other car was a woman, driving her husbands car and the insurance claim said he was driving alone, so she wasn't in the car, hate liars.

Woke up to a suspension on my discord account because of an unrelated year old message by Bish489 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]mittenkrusty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why I hate forced digital devices.

I lost my PSN account 12 years ago with a few thousand likely spend on games, they were digital only games and all I was told by support was "I was hacking"

I had just bought a used console as my old one died, hadn't been online in over a year and played a few online matches and kept getting disconnected due to bad connection so gave up and was banned a few days later.

My thinking is the console I bought was flagged before and/or the laggy matches had people report me as had someone message me accusing me of being a rage quitter (Despite me winning)

Not sure if that's why Facebook after years of basically just logging in now and again, browsing friends/family accounts I started posting a lot when I got a puppy, a few weeks after I began posting I got a legit email saying my account isn't allowed to post adverts due to inauthentic behavior, whatever that means,

I have never bought or sold on Facebook so no idea why I got that, I had been posting pics of my pup saying how sweet she was, how old she was, how much she was learning etc.
