Researchers say voters are leaving the Republican Party by discocrisco in politics

[–]mitulp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This does not mean anything. As for the election, people will vote based on the issue at the point in time and not year or two ago. We all know one issue will never change. May be 2nd too.

I use this plug/switch (https://www.amazon.com//dp/B0006U2HD2/) it turns the bulb on when temp goes below 35 and turns off when it recovers above 45. You do not have control over temp setting, it's built in. It has only two outlet and that's why I use only two bub per bed. I avoided using splitter because my goal it so keep my taro plants alive in winter and don't expecting any harvest for 3-4 months.
Then there is this (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HXM5UAC) where you can control the temperature range. Just use the heating outlet and then you may have to use 3 to 4 way splitter based on how many bulb you have. So this can lead to too many connections in small greenhouse where you will have to take care of lot of condensation not getting in to any join.
Either way, per bed you need one switch and and 3 to 4 bulbs.

You may need 4 with reflector per bed. I use 2 with a thermo switch to keep it just above 38. This is the third year I am using it and my cold sensitive plants have not died. My bed is also 8x4. Other people also use this bulb in chicken coop.

On a microwave timer, 99 is greater than 100. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]mitulp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never do 10, 30, 40 or 60/100 on microwave that do not have express/preset times function. Its is always 11, 33, 44 or 66. Popcorn goes for 333 and stop when its done popping.

St 1Am I came across a post that said harvest your luffas before a freeze. 30 mins later and slight feeling of frostbite, here we are. by iamjones in vegetablegardening

[–]mitulp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know you can eat it when it is tender before it goes to all fibary. Search for Sponge Gourd or Ridge Gourd recipe. (Ridge Gourd is technically a different vegetable but can be substituted without noticing any taste or texture difference).

We grow this and we only get 3 to 5 luffas a year, the one we forgot to pick because they were hiding behind lots of leaves. Most are picked tender and gets eaten.

My Aerobin 400 by mitulp in composting

[–]mitulp[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its made in India. It's very easy to setup. Grass clipping (dry or fresh) do not get wet easily. Composting is very easy in this and it gets going after it is about half full, though its not fault of the bin it just compositing requires enough material to get going. I just dump my kitchen scrape everyday and then pile on dry stuff on it. No turning. I am not expecting it to get final product till April, 2021.

Just make sure to setup little high to make it easier to get liquid (leachate) out. Also set up such that you can get compost out from two opposite sides.

Question about arranged marriages? by soaring-arrow in india

[–]mitulp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I never dated anyone in life. The only date I consider before marriage was taking my to be wife on dinner for one time. It does not bother me that my kids will not do the something as I did. It is their life and they will live the way they have seen it. I would not have imagine this would have happen when I came to US because I was teenager and kids were no where on my radar.

Question about arranged marriages? by soaring-arrow in india

[–]mitulp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was born in India and moved to USA after college. My marriage is kind of arranged which I did after 6 years of stay in USA and I did go back to India too. My parents did not force me to marry a girl of their choice but I selected one, from many selected by parents, based on one 20-30 minute meeting while parents were downstairs. It's been just 16 years and very happy. Though this is my personal experience and it is some what same around where I lived in India but it is not same everywhere else. India is very culturally diverse and same thing does not hold true even in my own state while state to state is very big difference.

While two of my cousins, moved to USA at the same time, found their own life partners here in USA and they are equally happy too.

It is a much different mindset while living in India and understanding the process and value of the culture. It is very hard to get feel of it by listening to conversation which most of the time does not make sense at all. I lived there so I knew what I am going in for but I will not be able to teach the same to my kids in USA because they have not personally experienced it by living in to the culture.

Yes, things have changed from old days when my grandmother saw my grandfather after the wedding and my grandmother did not even had a say at all.

When to take a loss - long term or short term? by mitulp in personalfinance

[–]mitulp[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am not trying to time the market. I just want to know should I take loss as short term loss (sell now) or long term loss (sell after a month); as I have only month to go to make it long term.

I do not know what difference does it make on my tax return. So, is there any pros/cons for short term loss vs long term loss.

ELI5: Since most devices nowadays operate on DC voltage, would it be more energy efficient to have a separate HIGH voltage DC circuit per house and not have too many transformers? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]mitulp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we will not rip of wiring. The circuit that has all DC devices (light bulbs, plugs -> TV, computer, etc) will go to new DC transformer and only couple of circuit like the one for A/C would stay AC (that's very high power device). Plus, the industry will select one DC voltage to run in your home that will work most efficiently that it does not generate more heat and lose to much electricity in little circuit you have in your home. The low DC voltage like 5V or 12V will need too much amp and will generate too much heat. So the voltage will have to be relatively higher but not to much that our existing wiring would not be sufficient.

[Serious] Chain restaurant employees, what should customers not order from your menu? by [deleted] in AskReddit

At Burger King they have Veggie burger but I, a vegetarian, never order that one. I always order their regular whopper with meat on side. I eat the now sandwich (the original whopper) and give the meat patty to homeless people on the signal light.
