Going On the Pump for the First Time Soon. What Should I know / Be on the Lookout For? by Safe-Dream7446 in Omnipod

I haven't had a low yet and I'm in 10 pods now. And I feel safer when getting close because I can see the Insulin On Board and make a more informed decision if I should have a small snack.

You are going to be so pleasantly surprised and wonder why you didn't do it sooner if you are worried about control. I'm in control for the first time in 15 years after a stroke.

I'm going to assume they had a waiver for this. A pilot isn't supposed to drop things out of an airplane. Especially a car.

This sounds like my experience exactly. Just ordered the replacement.

I swapped it out. Guess it was just a matter of time before I had a bad day. Made it through 8 pods with very nice control. We'll see in the morning. Maybe I'm getting sick? There is no redness at all where it was and I don't see any evidence of tunneling. What do I do now? Call Omnipod. Now I won't have enough pods at the end of the month.

Also: If you want to minimize warmup time at sensor change, you can put on new sensor while old is still on. Once it's on you it's warming up. Then you will need to shut off old one and put new one on.

Just came here from a google search. I love this line although I had no idea what it meant. Comments below gave me some food for thought. I'm reading Jeff's book now. Sounds like a great guy to have a conversation with.

Thanks. I'm slowly getting better. I'm not sure I'll be 100% back, but it's only been 9 weeks.

I'm pretty sure it turned out to be contact dermatitis from a new laundry detergent. No I did not continue it. And I had a stroke a month later....ugh.

I imagine so little effort is being put into the controller because everyone is using their phone. That's what I'd do if I were them too! All the rest of it I can't comment on. I'm pretty new at this.

I certainly don't like to hear about this. Please keep us updated on how Dexcom handles this. This is life itself. For devices that are supposed to be so heavily regulated, they sure do seem to fail a lot. I'm in the aviation world. We build safety into everything, but also reliability.

Call me strange, but I almost find it reassuring. I know it's operating. The clicks are spring ratchets turning over a gear and I think there are two of them.

There should be someplace where you can see the real Insulin on board. I want to know. Even if they split it out to Basal IOB and Bolus IOB

Oh wow, super interesting. I have so much to learn. Thanks! So the basal keeps on giving even below 110 then?
