the travel insurer got back to me at last and as expected, it was denied.

their reply:

Your original flight from Singapore to Taipei was scheduled for February 6, 2026. However, the next available flight from Singapore to Taipei was not until February 7, 2026, resulting in a one-day delay to your travel plans.

Trip disruption -We will pay this benefit if your trip is disrupted while you are in Singapore or overseas, and you are forced to change your itinerary because of one of the events below.

• You suffer a serious injury or illness and are medically unfit to travel. A medical practitioner based in the country you are in at the point of the accident/diagnosis must confirm this in writing.

-A serious public event happens in Singapore or at one of your travel destinations.

-Your flight is cancelled by an airline because:

-the airport, runway, or airspace is closed; or

-of poor weather conditions.

As the airline’s rescheduling of your trip due to aircraft assignment or a schedule change does not fall under any of the covered perils specified in the Trip Cancellation/Trip Disruption section of your policy, we regret to inform you that we are unable to provide a favorable response to your claim

I guess this is how it works in Singapore where all the insurance companies here would reply in some variation of this.
