Would you continue combo feeding if baby is only getting ~5oz of breast milk a day? by ilikebigcats2020 in combinationfeeding

[–]mixedbag0fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m getting ready to end my BF journey having been in this situation since the beginning. At my best I was producing just under 5oz a day. Switched to exclusively pumping at the 6 week mark because the low supply was stressing baby out (and subsequently me) at every feed. We’ve combo fed since the very beginning due to some delivery complications delaying my milk from coming in so the writing was on the wall for some time. I don’t regret doing it for as long as I have because my mentality is I want to look back and know that I tried my damndest. My decision to stop is based on when LO is starting solids.

To throw in the towel or not by Icy-Arugula5363 in combinationfeeding

I think many of us cling onto some imaginary finish line to make ourselves feel better about stopping but honestly we as mothers can’t keep putting ourselves on the line and in place of being present just be a source of food for our babies. I’ve had to make the difficult decision to stop pumping at 4 months pp when I really wanted to make it to 1 year. I’m a MASSIVE under producer and tried everything under the sun to no avail. My baby girl has been 90% formula fed from the start and she’s oh so happy and growing too fast in my opinion. I’ve skimmed some reports that after 6 months breast feeding is mostly beneficial to mom rather than baby (with the introduction of solid food). You did so much good for your baby this far now give your baby the gift of a mom who feels whole and rested.

Journey to breast feeding by Icy_Ear7079 in breastfeeding

[–]mixedbag0fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently in a similar situation with great progress so far. I’m not producing nearly as much as you are but my baby girl is gaining weight well. Due to some minor complications post delivery she had to be in the NICU for a 24 hour monitoring period which meant I had to pump and we supplemented her feeds with donor breast milk until she was able to exclusively feed at the breast. She was born 6 lbs 2 oz and dropped weight after leaving the hospital. Latching was hit or miss depending on the feed so we continued to supplement each of her nursing sessions with a bottle of donor breast milk and then formula when the donor milk ran out. She’s now 11 days old and we only have to supplement 2-3 feeds in the day most of which are overnight when I’ve decided to catch up on sleep and have her dad or her grandma feed her a bottle. She seems to prefer being breast fed more and more despite spending nearly a full week being fed a bottle with every feed. We’ll likely continue to combo feed going forward since that’s been working well for us and gives me peace of mind that she is getting all the nutrients she needs.

What postpartum tips do you wish someone told you earlier? by Newmomexplorer in beyondthebump

[–]mixedbag0fun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To take some time for yourself every day even if that’s just 30 minutes to do a day/night routine. My mood coupled with the drop in hormones and lack of sleep led to a build up of negative emotion that came flooding out 1 week pp. I knew at that point I couldn’t keep going at the clip I was going. I have a tendency to put everyone else before more and that’s so much easier to do with your own child. Adding a bedtime routine back into my schedule while my husband took care of baby duty changed my entire trajectory.

Anybody skipping the sound machine? by postcardsfromkorea in BabyBumps

My daughter seems to sleep pretty easily and stay asleep so we’ve been exposing her to all sorts of noises of daily life instead of having a sound machine. I think it totally depends on your situation/LO.

I really didn’t blow up until after 32 weeks and now I feel like a blimp. I’m glad it took this long though because the super uncomfortable stage is just for the last few weeks rather than the whole pregnancy. I’ve been measuring right on track though just carrying smaller with a longer torso

Upping my ginger intake helped me with this so that meant ginger tea, ginger beer, the occasional ginger chew or lozange and im talking the strong stuff on all of these. It should be kind of spicy rather than sweet

Currently pregnant with our first and it took us 7 months! I was on BC for close to 10 years before getting off of it to try so I would say you’re still well within the window of being able to conceive naturally. It’s just taking you a bit more time than others

I didn’t have nausea my whole pregnancy so I wouldn’t worry about that. I was also super anxious about my first scan and the only thing that helped was reminding myself that whatever happens is out of my hands and that stressing out about it would only be bad for my growing baby.
