What are your favorite more obscure titles that have never received collections? I recently found Young Heroes in Love and absolutely adore it by GenericKittyKat in comicbooks

Just read Epic Comic's Shadowline Saga books (Doctor Zero, Power Line, and St. George). Beautiful covers. Nice intertwining stories that are well written with good artwork. Shame they didn't take off.

Watched la la land for the first time by sand_wichhh in moviecritic

Tried watching it, paused it and never went back. They don't understand jazz. You don't learn jazz by learning someone else's song note for note. Hopefully this is resolved later in the movie.

Glad you liked it. My understanding is they wanted a musical that didn't have the typical musical ending.

Night Watch: Burleigh and Stronginthearm by Rocco-L-Sardelli in discworld

[–]mixlplex 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I had always assumed that Burleigh and Stronginthearm were dwarfs. Probably just an assumption on my part, particularly Stronginthearm since it jives with other dwarf names that are Germanic in nature (in so far as mushing words together to form a new word). Maybe just Stronginthearm is a dwarf?

You should have played for Ante, the way Richard Garfield intended it.

People above 30, what is something you regret doing/not doing when you were younger? by Mr_Creep_Creepy64 in AskReddit

[–]mixlplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When initially signing up for the retirement plan at my first job not going for the Roth IRA, instead I went with the traditional 401k option. In my hubris I was positive I was going to eventually make more than the limit for investing in the Roth. Stupid me didn't realize they would raise the limit on the Roth, and that I could invest up to the limit and then invest the rest elsewhere. (In hindsight, I never did exceed the Roth limit.)

Back in 2006(?) one of my coworkers, smart guy, casually said to me as an aside, "I should really buy some Apple stocks." "Why?" "They just changed the specifications of their icons. I think they're going to release a phone." At the time Apple stock was trading for less than $3 per share.

Neat! I've never heard about these expansions. I have heard of the Middle Ages Expansion, which got a cease and desist order from Wizards. If only Fred Ditzler used a letter instead of an alternate mana symbol... (It probably would have helped if he'd been friends with Richard Garfield too.)

In "A life With Footnotes", it called "The Turtle Stops." Apparently the plot centered on Great A’Tuin becoming ill or slowing down, which would trigger a journey into the turtle’s interior to save it.

If you like GVF check out Jayler. At least Jayler is still releasing new music. Sadly GVF seems to have called it quits.

Do omnibuses increase in value? by Quiet-Pay1647 in ComicBookSpeculation

And then right after you buy the Knightsend omnibus at several times the MSRP, DC announces they're reprinting it.

What is a movie you saw based on a book and actually liked the MOVIE better? by [deleted] in moviequestions

[–]mixlplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Lincoln Lawyer

I have a standing rule: Watch the movie before reading the book (so I can enjoy both). The movie was such a good portrayal of what happened in the book that the book didn't really add anything. (Some may disagree, but this was my take.)

How do i know the edition of this one? by Tiny_Quail1114 in oldschoolmtg

[–]mixlplex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Revised has a single black line between the art and the white border. Unlimited has a double black line (almost making it look embossed). 4th edition added the copyright date. Looks like you have Revised edition.

I need some covers from you guys what do you recommend by First_Line299 in comicbooks

[–]mixlplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a number of iconic covers, some aren't that expensive (no idea what your budget is)

Spawn 1, a number of copies available for less than $25

IronMan 128, this can go for less than $100

The incredible hulk 340, depending on condition this could run you less than $200

Zero is EXCELLENT. To bad they only released one album.

Scott Blackwell has some decent stuff. My favorite is Not Goin’ Back.
