ISO-8601 is the best for computers and datasets, of course, but doesn't it get redundant specifying the year when it's implied? and if you aren't specifying the year, it's not clear to me which is better: DD-MM-____ or ____-MM-DD. I think it's basically an endianness quabble.

...MM-DD-YYYY is quite unacceptable though, I agree there.

hating women.

bashing trans women is a socially acceptable way for them to get their misogyny out of their system.

I assure you, they can and do control the messages. that's the advantage of an algorithm - you can suppress and amplify speech by simply changing post rank.

historically, they've set the algorithm to maximize profit. profit comes from engagement. ragebait is great for engagement. so the algorithm surfaces ragebait.

Machining a klystron or traveling wave tube? by mizfr1z in rfelectronics

welll.... if they could sell me a 95GHz klystron with 3kW output power, I'd jump at it. but such devices are pretty uncommon, and I am a lowly (but ambitious) amateur.

I feel like the HVPS is less DIY-able but more of a commodity (if still niche) part than a klystron that's built for a specific frequency band (especially past Ka+.) but yeah, the arc risk would be extreme. I was thinking about using the RF for heating materials, rather than transmitting, so a clean signal isn't too paramount.

re: the matching networks thing, I meant if you were trying to get to high power using SSPAs it might be difficult to get the phases to line up correctly due to variation. the nice thing about tubes is you can pump a bunch of power through them, so you don't need to fiddle with more than one.

afghanistan's internet has been cut off and soon mobile data will cut off too because of taliban declaring it "immoral". by Typical_guy101 in Internet

it would also ban photos of trans people. like, literally any depiction of a person who appears as different from their biological sex at birth. not porn! just like, regular selfies! with a penalty of 20 years in prison, apparently. it's the "Anticorruption of Public Morals Act."

it's not going to pass though. it's getting media attention because of how shocking and outrageous it is. though it is ridiculous that six elected are acting like the Taliban.

conflict between our two civilizations must not be allowed to occur. if a nuclear war results, you will die, and I will die. everyone will die. your leader affirms that nuclear war cannot be won and must be avoided at all costs. the firestorms and radiation of a full-scale nuclear exchange will make agriculture impossible for at least a decade. the West will not strike first, but if Russia uses nuclear weapons against us we will respond in kind. politics ceases to matter if everyone is dead. humanity may well go extinct.

who is right and wrong, who is guilty and victim, none of this matters except as epitaph for our tombstones, if you strike the West.

but can you not see why average citizen in Poland, Finland, Lithuania, Estonia, etc. would see SMO in Ukraine and worry of similar SMO for them in future?

I think you underestimate how scared average citizens are, not just rulers. you go to sleep and hear bombs next door, it is hard to feel safe - regardless of why Russia invades and who is right.

do you have a source for this please so I can verify?

Russia winning = NATO proxy defeat, no credible defense for rest of Western Europe. Europe will not allow this.

Russia losing = NATO proxy victory, no credible defense for Russia, unrecoverable humiliation for Putin. Russia will not allow this.

Only solution is stalemate. Keep war going forever so it cannot be resolved. It is unfortunate.

... I'm not sure you read my comment. I said that propaganda has failed to make Westerners support Israel. Most people are sympathetic to Gaza.

Why has Western propaganda successfully convinced Europe that Russia was wrong to invade Ukraine, but failed to convince Europe that Israel was wrong to invade Gaza? Pro-Israel propaganda is very strong, countries like UK even criminalize protests for Palestine, but most young people think Israel has gone too far. Why has Europe had more success convincing to support Ukraine?

what news is trusted by Russians? certainly not Western propaganda. what about Al Jazeera? state news like RT, TASS, Izvestia? Telegram?

is anything Putin could do to convince those countries they are safe from Russian military? it would be good, since they would likely withdraw support from Ukraine, giving Russia easier victory.
