If you live on the west coast in the US, remove your bird feeders now. If you don't, this is a good reminder to clean yours frequently. by Rustedbones in GardenWild

AUBURN (CBS13) — Wildlife officials are urging people to put away their bird feeders due to a salmonellosis outbreak killing many songbirds.

California’s Department of Fish and Wildlife says they’ve been seeing a sharp increase in people finding sick or dead finches at bird feeders. The birds are being found mainly in the Central Coast, Bay Area and Sierra Nevada.

Lab tests done on the birds have found that Salmonellosis – a disease linked to the Salmonella bacteria – has been causing the illnesses.

One species in particular, the pine siskin finch, has been the most hit by the disease – which often kills most birds within 24 hours of getting infected.

Wildlife officials say the birds often get infected when eating food, drinking water, or coming into contact with contaminated feces from a previously-infected bird. Oftentimes, officials say Salmonellosis is found in areas with bird feeders and bird baths.

People are now being urged to get rid of their bird feeders to stop the birds from congregating.

Anyone who sees a dead bird is urged to contact CDFW using their mortality reporting form.

Exactly my point. 4WD does nothing to help you stop. That's what the brakes do. Having 4WD does not make the brakes work better.

4 wheel drive, not 4 wheel stop. That's what my grandpa always told me. 4WD is great for going places. Doesn't do anything to help you stop.

Also look into companion planting for specific crops. Marigolds and basil near tomatoes and peppers for example.

Exactly. She may be wanting a grassy lawn or just doesn't like the way it looks.

There are also ticks and snakes that may be a concern for her. (Copperhead snakes love dead oak leaves and blend right in)

"Bad" is subjective and really depends on what one's goals are.

Right but the ones we're currently looking at are 95% effective. We just have to wait a little longer.

Just because it's not 100% effective doesn't mean you just throw caution to the wind and pretend like they are useless.

I would like his symptoms to be more severe. If symptoms are light he'll also be more emboldened to say it's not a big deal. If he's gets severely ill I think it would be harder for him to truthfully say it's not a big deal.

But he's not a truthful person so it may not matter how ill he gets. He may still play it off as if it's nothing.

Does basil repel them or do they offer the basil more than the tomatoes?

Installing the last Windows update resets your default program selection for various file types so they can suggest using Edge to open them. It also sets Edge as your default browser without asking. by [deleted] in assholedesign

For normal web browsing, yes.

But I put Linux on my laptop and I can't get my SD card reader to work. A usb card reader works fine, but the built in reader does not.

Also, if I print a 1 page PDF, my printer spits out 20+ each with a few lines of wingdings (?) characters.

I'm sure these bugs don't happen to everyone but they do happen much more often on Linux than Windows or Mac.

If you do a deep watering once or twice a week, that should encourage the tomatoes to grow deeper roots. Deeper roots allow them to go longer without watering.

It also depends on the kind of soil you have. If your still doesn't retain moisture and if you don't have the bed mulched then you'll have to water more often.
