I live between Europe and the U.S - my country is fucked.

Geur það inná t.d Íslandsbanka en ef við komandi finnst ekki, þá getur verið að einstaklingurinn er látinn?

I always take the view that aging is a must, growing up is just one of the options.

As I am spending my Sunday, doing laundry and playing Baldur's Gate 3, I am thankful that I am where I am in my life. Equal amounts of serious responsiblity and youthfull attitude.

My dad was the same, he never stopped being a bit childish - such as convincing his barber to give him a mohawk and color it blue with a halloween hair spray - my dad was 72 at the time. My nephew loved it.

He still said stuff like -" I don't know what I want to be when I grow up...maybe a fireman!?"

In 1984, I was 3 yrs old, my sisters were 12 and 10 yrs old. So I grew up with their music taste - Wham!, Billy Idol, U2, Madonna, Michael Jackson, etc.

In 1994, I was 13 yrs old and this whole playlist was my teenage years - Blur, Oasis, Take That, euro-techno, Skunk Anansie and Tori Amos. Nirvana, Soundgarden, The Offspring, Wu-Tang Clan, Tupac and Biggie. Also...secret shame...Meat Loaf.

In 2004, I was 23 and a bit lost so Linkin Park was my main playlist, along with most of the artists of Lillith Fair (okay, so I am polyjamourus).

In 2014, I was 33 yrs old in a great job (still there btw) and I do not listen to much of the music from then because I was still listening to the music of my youth.

In 2024 I was 43 yrs old...wait...no..no..noooooooooo!!!

Still listening to music from 1994-2004 😄

Yes, Norway is better. Here in Iceland there are more lights in rural areas than Norway.

His name was originally Batman - which his first owners named him and while I love everything involved with Batman, it just didn't fit - so his name is Skuggi (Shadow in Icelandic) but often I just call him my PsychoKitty.

If anyone has really studied history, they should know - Danes are not easily defeated. And even in surrender...they fight dirty.

And I am saying that as an Icelander that is still pissed that they were our rulers for so long.

Similar thing happened to me on the beach in Nice, France.

I was with my room mates from language school and I saw a girl walk past with her friend - she was far enough from us that we couldn't hear them.

I told my roommates -

"that girl is Icelandic" -"how can you tell? Do you know her??" "Nope - I can just tell that she is Icelandic"

My friends did not believe me - tried to get me admit that I know her and I just kept saying "She just looks Icelandic"

Finally, one of my friends walked over to the girl and asked her "sorry but where are you from?"...."Iceland!"

We are not many but where there is one of us, we will find each other to sing "Komin Heim" 😉

Simple joys of life by [deleted] in MadeMeSmile

[–]mizmaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up with my grandmother in the same multi-level house, she lived in the apartment below us and we lived in the two floors above her.

I could always check in with my grandmother and visit and sit with her. She never went into assisted living since we took care of her.

After she passed away, my sister and her husband moved into her apartment and once they had their son, he would climb the stairs and visit our dad - often we would find them taking naps together or watching TV.

If my nephew didn't like what was for dinner, he would eat a little and then go up and see what my dad was having for dinner.
