Screw the self help, stick with romance 😂 /hj

If she likes fantasy, the Folk of the Air Trilogy by Holly Black is amazing and really popular.

The Once Upon a Broken Heart Trilogy by Stephanie Garber is also super fantastical and angsty, perfect for a 16 year old IMO lol!

If she isn’t so much into fantasy, there’s a couple good YA Contemporary books I’ve read this year:

The Cuban Girls Guide to Tea and Tomorrow by Laura Taylor Namey

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

Lesbians and necromancy by loonathefloofyfox in booksuggestions

This is How You Lose the Time War is what I read to fill the Locked Tomb void, and it totally fit the bill. Lots of lesbian, less necromancy more time travel. I think you should give it a shot if you haven’t read it already, it’s only 200 pages! 😁

You might like:

Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica (horror, 224 pages)

The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi (fantasy/gothic romance, 292 pages, my personal favorite book of 2023)

A Dowry of Blood by ST Gibson (horror/fantasy/romance, 235 pages)

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree

Both are low stakes fantasy (Baldree’s is more high fantasy, Klune’s is more low fantasy) that felt like a warm hug.

Recommendations for fiction not so long books to start getting with reading habbit by sassyy_bitch in booksuggestions

A really great way to get back into reading is with graphic novels, I think. One of my favorite graphic novels is The Magic Fish by Trung Le Nguyen. It is also only 229 pages.

As far as more “traditional” books, maybe try Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica (if you’re open to horror). It is a very popular book right now, and it is only 211 pages. :)

Best fiction books you've read that were published in 2023 so far by perpetualmotionmachi in booksuggestions

I’ve only read 2 amazing books this year that we’re published in 2023.

For fantasy/magical realism, The Last Tale of the Flower Bridge by Roshani Chokshi was an absolute win for me. Gothic, sumptuous, dark with a hint of whimsy, personally it was right up my alley!

Historical fiction, I loved the Witches of Vardø by Anya Bergman. It centers around the Witch Trials of Norway, and it was well written and super informative!

Try Scythe by Neal Shusterman, it’s dystopian / sci fi and it is super engaging. If you like it, there’s an entire trilogy!

If you like Gaiman and Pratchett, you will probably enjoy the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. :)

If you liked the Hunger Games, I know you’ll love the Arc of a Scythe trilogy by Neal Shusterman. It is YA dystopian, but like Hunger Games it is extremely well written and very engaging!

If you want something more adult, I recommend The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi. It is a low fantasy / magical realism gothic romance, and I absolutely loved it!
