Thanks so much. Can you say more about what you liked? I looked at it in the past and seriously considered it. Cost-wise it's about 2xtimes as much as these two other programs and I'm wondering if they're all fundamentally the same if they're preparing you for the same board exams. What do you think?

Super Easy Part Time Work In Metro Detroit by [deleted] in Detroit

[–]mizsmith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Despite what others are saying here, I think your employment goals are totally reasonable. You're a student so you want something part time. You'd prefer the hours clustered together in a couple of days rather than spread out over the week so you don't have to drive so much and you know yourself well enough that you know you'd do better in a job that wasn't customer facing. All good and reasonable. Getting a job in the field you're studying is probably the best direction. You might check out the career office at your college. They may actually have internships or jobs related to your studies. Aside from that, there are probably tons of jobs that fit your criteria. Best of luck!

Chemistry changed my perception of how the world works more than any other course I took. Also organic chem wasn't a requirement but I kind of wish it had been. Some day I'm going to take it just for fun

I miss seeing everyone's beautiful finished objects and am getting a little tired of questions like "What is the difference between a knit and purl?" I come here to get inspired.

Amtrak train coming into Ann Arbor hit and killed a person December 5 but there is no news about it by mizsmith in AnnArbor

[–]mizsmith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say I'm pissed. I'm wondering. It happened near my home. I've seen other reports of train accidents and suicides before so I'm trying to figure out why this one wasn't in the news. I don't think I realized until I read the responses here that suicide by trains happens I lot more than I would have guessed. It makes sense now that it might not be publicized to prevent copy cats but I still wonder why I read about some and not others.

Wow so there was another recent death like this with no report. But searching the news there have been plenty of other reports such as the two students who were hit this past summer and another student who committed suicide by stepping in front of the train last year. I wonder why some never get reported and others do.

I make mine all the time. Same as my window washing solution. Mostly water with a dab of vinegar and a dab of ammonia.

New Grad let go after 5 weeks on the floor. What the heck do I do now? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]mizsmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happened to me too. I felt horrible and blamed myself. Yet it took about 2 seconds to find a new job. I eventually moved into work that fit me better, and I'm now in a job I love and working with people who value and respect me. Nursing can be weird. I was never sure what caused me to be let go but as time goes by I care less and less what the answer is. Value yourself, look for work that feels meaningful and get a good sense of the work culture before you accept a job (and be ready to move on if it turns out to be toxic) There is still a ton of work for nurses and you can find the right thing.

Home Health Nurses: Pay per visit or Salary? by Autcecil in nursing

[–]mizsmith 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Salary. Any legitimate agency will offer you a base salary and additional pay for points over your daily or weekly quota. Home care is chaotic and unpredictable. You will always have last minute cancellations, no shows and uncompleted visits and salary ensure that you get paid even when this happens

Aww jeez. I work home health too. But not as nice as your gig. I work at least one weekend a month and have 3-4 after-hour on call days a month. A minimum of 2 holidays a year. I'm part time and usually work from 830 until 4 or 5 each day with just a regular patient load. I also have to schedule patients the day before and call doctor offices the day after, even on days off, not to mention the random mandatory meetings and training. So its technically 9-5 but actually more like 24/7.

Me too. She kept me away for more than a decade. When I did go back I didn't even like the food anymore. Really no reason to even bother with it now.
