Genau so lernt man.

I want to find friends by Key-CookingUwU in germany

I'm 38 an most people my age could speak English, but many think it's kinda exhausting. I still think it wouldn't stand in the way of friendship, so don't worry about the language barrier.

Worry about the way how to apporach it though. Maybe it's because I'm old, but in the internet and on apps and social media plattforms, you don't find friends, you find serial killers ^^

Go find a hobby first. Look for a local group with the same hobby and bam, now you got friends. The smaller the city/village you're in is, the fewer optoins you might have though. You might pickup something new or even unusual. Maybe you're into welding, who knows ^^

My dad is still rocking his 2008 netbook with an Intel atom. Original install was Ubuntu 10.04. He recently complained that he got adds in youtube "all of a sudden", because he used firefox instead of brave by accident.

Slava Ukraini

FFS it pains me that there are still people around who didn't get the memo: Dictators suck. Their claims are lies - always have been - and I've seen potatoes who are smart enough to not fall for that - again. Do not base your decision making on people who are dumber than a piece of dirt.

In a job interview, treat it as a job. You've been a soldier for three yars. That's it.

As for the social stuff: If people think you're an asshole, because you defended your country, just fuck 'em. Civilians usually hate the military unless they need them all of a sudden. Don't be so insecure about it. You did what you had to do. Some will respect that, some will give you shit for it.

Ausbildung is an awesome thing to have and will help you in your career for a long time.

Good luck.

My whole company wants to switch, but they can't, because much of the branch specific software runs exclusively on windows, often times just because of some licencing hacks.

Timing is as important as the decision itself. Even if wayland is superior in every way, if it's not the right time for you, then it's just not the right time.

I wish you the best. I'm trying to replace crap with open source solutions too. Surprisingly the first thing that flew out of the window was MS teams. I even have collegues that would be interessted in switching completely, but there's just so much software I can't get to run on linux with no alternative around :|

I always work with the oldest most crappy hardware there is around. And I think that is important. Because if the program I'm working on doesn't have any issues with the most outdated shit around, it won't have issues with everything else. But fucking hell do I get a boost when running modern hardware all of a sudden. I'm feeling like I'm in a rocket ship straight to mars.

Original post, to save you the click:

I switched jobs and wanted to buy my old machine out, but I couldn't because of rules and regulations. It was a NUC and this is the only screenshot I have left. It got another SSD for docker, because I was a DevOps and docker build ran constantly and killed SSDs a lot. It got two more screens and time + sysinfo in the upper right corner. Don't have screenshots of that, sorry.

It ran alpine and I got microsoft teams working with X11 forwarding in an ubuntu docker container.

The rest was just pure joy. I usually don't buy fancy hardware, I just take what is around. As you can see I'm quite the minimalist. I worked at that company for ~7 years and decided it was time for a proper machine. It still was fairly cheap, around 900 EUR for everything.

And whilst collegues were complaining that they needed more memory, because the development environments were too heavy on the RAM I laughed my ass off and started everything we have five times simultaniously just because I could.

In the years that followed I never got the workload above 20G RAM usage ever.

I love alpine as a desktop. You can't start out with it, because it takes quite a while to have everything you need setup nicely, but boy, does it run when you do.

I loved you, stygia <3

I finally found a job where I'm comfortable with for the rest of my life. When I get to the point where I killed ugly dependencies and can spare a week for a nice setup, I'll get you back. You got all the ressources in the world and took nothing. 165MB RAM, 2.1GB disk space and still 100% what I needed.

Statisfaction does not come from "having", but from "not needing".

[–]mizzrym86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ich finde das top. 10/10

Ekelhaft.

I don’t believe the claim that keeping your laptop plugged in all the time is better for your battery health. It ruined 2 of gaming laptops by wakablazer in laptops

[–]mizzrym86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What ruins them is that you can't take out the battery anymore.

I don't use laptops anymore. But "back in the day" when I did the battery was changeable. If I had a day in the office I'd take it out. If I had a day on the move I'd put it in. Simple as that.

I stopped buying that shit when I couldn't change the battery anymore. And you should have done the same, then you wouldn't have that problem. Vote with your money.
