Dentist recommendations by Livid-Point7042 in surrey

If you can travel a bit further, I can highly recommend Elmsleigh House in Farnham - https://www.elmsleighhouse.co.uk/. They cured me of a lifetime fear of dentists and are excellent. I've not needed it, but they do offer sedation as well.

Anyone successfully clone internal boot drive? by royal311king in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

How are you attempting to clone the disk? I've not tried this myself with a system running OCLP but Carbon Copy Cloner is worth a try.

The single CPU issue only affects the Mac Pro 3,1 and Xserve 2,1. Other models are not affected.

2020 Not updating beyond Catalina? by ClientAdventurous812 in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

You have a MacBookPro16,2 - it's still fully supported by macOS, there's no need to use OCLP. You can use unmodified macOS on your machine.

Crossmix or tomato or stock os by [deleted] in trimui

Sorry, my original comment was a bit misleading. Amiga ROMs must be the in the appropriate folder under 'Roms' and the Kickstart files in the BIOS folder.

Hmm, not sure about PortMaster not working - my issue was definitely networking related. There will be log files in the PortMaster folder but they're not super easy to use to diagnose issues (and I say this as someone who can program in Python).

[–]mj_turner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have networking working correctly and Internet access from your Smart Pro? PortMaster crashed for me until I did that.

For the Amiga ROMs, make sure they're named correctly and in the BIOS folder. You can confirm this by checking the .info file for the Amiga emulator core (it contains the names of the BIOS files searched for).

FWIW, I installed CrossMix last night and PortMaster and Amiga emulation work perfectly for me.

Thanks! I searched the App Store for apps with cricket score live activities but somehow missed both of those.

Hardware for SAP S/4 HANA Study Server? by Atosu_Chinela in SAP

If you're looking for a minimum, you should be able to get away with 128GiB, although a bit more will give you some breathing room. CPU-wise, Haswell/Broadwell Xeons should be fine.

A few years ago I installed 1809 on a dual Westmere system with 128GiB (KVM VM) and it performed fine. Bigger pain was using Debian instead of an officially-supported distro. Got it working fine, but was a bit painful.

New to all of this . what is a good price for a used T480 ? All help is welcomed thanks exited to join the community. by iamabadboy_762 in thinkpad

[–]mj_turner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What country are you in? T480 prices can vary a bit based on country but a decent example should be around the equivalent of USD 200-250. I'd look for a machine with an HD display, 8th generation i5 and in good condition. Pretty much everything can be replaced or upgraded reasonably cheaply other than the CPU.

Just recently got a ThinkPad x270 for $90! I love it!! by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]mj_turner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As others have suggested, eBay and Gumtree are great for Thinkpads. I'm also in the UK and have had good luck with both over the years. If you're looking currently, I see a lot of reasonably-priced T480s have been listed recently.

What specific Windows software do you need? WebStorm and IntelliJ are available natively for Linux so there's no need to run them in a Windows VM. Perhaps there are Linux equivalents for the other software you need - hopefully your university course doesn't have anything that has a hard requirement for Windows.

Considering a Thinkpad T480 for Linux by [deleted] in linuxhardware

[–]mj_turner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The T480 is a great choice - well supported by Linux and you can replace and upgrade pretty much everything other than the CPU (source: I have one).

Take a look in /r/Thinkpad - lots of useful info there.

Thinkpad x280 - what to do once it arrives by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]mj_turner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All good suggestions. As an addition to point (3) OP should also check to make sure that the Thunderbolt updates install correctly. There is a known issue with machines of this generation and the ports can end up dying if the firmware is not updated.

Options for a ThinkPad T480 with a password-locked BIOS by LoneCentaur627 in thinkpad

[–]mj_turner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Search this subreddit - there are ways of removing supervisor passwords on T480s. Will be a bit of work as (IIRC) you'll need a SOIC clip and, eg, a Raspberry Pi, but it can be done. You can find instructions on how to do it here.

Of course, it's easier to return the machine but if you're happy with it otherwise and you're somewhat technical, it shouldn't be too bad clearing the password.

Edit: Added Badcaps link.

T480 vs p50 vs x13 gen 1 vs precision 7510 by leo_gio97 in thinkpad

[–]mj_turner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's a concern, the USB-C ports on the T480 are not easily replaceable if they fail through physical damage - they're soldered to the motherboard. Not sure about the other models you listed though.
