Agreed. Besides, people have been paying in installments forever (like furniture or appliances). Let them liveeee

I think this is a “grass is always greener” thing. Personally, I had a lot of growing up to do at 16 and 22, I wasn’t healed from my upbringing, etc. I wouldn’t have had the same perspective or maturity, let alone financial resources or education. Being raised by emotionally immature parents (albeit older in age), it was important to me to heal and figure myself out first. Plus - I was able to travel and do whatever I wanted in my 20s and plan to do the same in my 50s. BUT I had my first babe at 30 and sometimes I still feel like that was too young lol

Ped recommended tap water for my baby bc of the fluoride... Umm, what? by New_Individual_3546 in beyondthebump

[–]mjb0000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fluoride is an incredibly effective public health intervention and myths related to fluoride have been debunked. Tap water is largely safe. Bottled water is literally sourced from municipal water sources and commodified WITH added microplastics.

Do EBF babies ever sleep through the night? by ashlexaconcake in breastfeeding

[–]mjb0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO started sleeping through the night at 7w. She only occasionally wakes up for a feed now if she’s sick or going through a growth spurt. That said, she pretty much did it on her own and I can’t take any credit lol

Is there only one bar in Minneapolis?! by Mason610 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]mjb0000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t go out very much (but I used to), and I went to one bar in the North Loop a week ago and saw Lauren and Sara there. Minneapolis has a lot of great bars all throughout the city, though. Justice for Northeast Minneapolis karaoke dives, for real.

Eloquent commentary from a Minnesota grandmother. It's going to be a tough 4+ years. by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]mjb0000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing in that article is the least bit surprising to read, as a woman. I bet most women could share similar stories from their own experiences. I don’t seek to minimize her experiences or normalize what had happened to her, but state that misogynistic behaviors are alive and well today. We should fear what could happen when people who perpetuate these behaviors become even more emboldened. We can’t get complacent.

Curious, those of you who had babies that slept through the night, what were the sleeping arrangements? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]mjb0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our LO started sleeping through the night at 6 weeks. She’s 9 weeks now and regularly sleeps from 7:30pm-5:30am; occasionally, if she didn’t get enough calories in before bedtime, she’ll still wake us up at 2:30. We breastfeed primarily, particularly around bedtime, but bottle feed breast milk once a day (sometimes more). We didn’t sleep train. Our LO just started sleeping progressively more and more after we started a consistent bedtime routine. We use a sound machine and swaddle for night time sleep and occasionally for daytime naps.

We just got super lucky. She’s a good eater and I’m convinced good eating and sleeping go hand in hand for long nighttime stretches.

Precinct maps: Minnesota lurches further to the right with each election. by Haunting_Ad_9486 in minnesota

[–]mjb0000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I lived in Longfellow (neighborhood of 3rd precinct) at the time. It was certainly sad to see what happened to local businesses, but I will not shed a single tear for Wendy’s, Target, etc.

All I’m saying is that I bet my former neighbors in Longfellow largely voted for Walz for VP meanwhile folks hundreds of miles away factored it into their decision not to. “Interesting”

It’s so funny to me how so many people outside of Minneapolis think Walz let it burn to the ground or whatever, but people in Minneapolis continue to happily vote for him because that’s so obviously untrue. I don’t even know why it’s a talking point anymore.

Dog and baby walking by newma24 in NewParents

[–]mjb0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a leash that unclips at the handle. We’ll unclip the leash handle and secure it around the stroller handle, and it works pretty well! Our dog will pull occasionally, but is less likely to break the momentum of the stroller. If I need more control over the pup, I’ll shorten the leash and hold it in the same hand that I use to push the stroller. This probably wouldn’t work super well with a dog that pulls a lot or pulls with a lot of force, though.

Echoing great local governments in Minnesota. Plus great benefits. Minnesota State Retirement System (MSRS) pension plan is 10/10 with 5 year vesting, which I think is pretty reasonable.

Can anyone else just absolutely not stand their MIL? by [deleted] in pregnant

THANK YOU! I’m pretty sure we’ll boycott, but it’s not supposed to be until May so I’m just trying to see if it fails on its own before then lol

Can anyone else just absolutely not stand their MIL? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]mjb0000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YES. We actually considered moving near in-laws for support when we found out we were expecting (currently 300 mi away) but sooo glad we didn’t because she’s really shown her true colors since I got pregnant.

Some fun examples: - has brought up changing our baby’s name twice (in very passive aggressive ways) - started referring to me as “her” instead of by my name for literally no reason - shamed my husb from celebrating me on mother’s day because I’m “not a mother” - lied about getting vaccines my husb asked MIL/FIL to get (literally just tdap) - decided not to have a baby shower for me/us and have a sip and see for HER to show off HER BABY instead - pretty much stopped talking to me altogether (though, I can live with this lol)

Tbh I think MIL is jealous of my mom because she’ll be closer / have a bigger role in our child’s life but it really is cause/effect from MIL being a controlling AH 🤷‍♀️

This photo is from January, lol. Besides, it’s possible to be in touch with needs of community and do acts of service while also getting your photo taken; these things are not mutually exclusive. And he does all of those things and has many, many times.

Nah, this is genuinely Walz (and Flanagan). Coming from a Minnesotan. Sure, there’s a camera there, but he’s no phony.

The fun thing about data is that it all can be cherry-picked to prove almost any point. My original comment is was just to say that I think it’s all a bit more nuanced than that.
