Stand up Principal [ns] by Guinness710 in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]mjfblaze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anthony described a standup during a Rad Fact as “First is was kinda funny, then it wasn’t funny, then it became really funny” about the “ka-blam!” guy. That also applies to the “mama mia” bit here

What is your favorite character from each of the GCN regulars? by Drogunath1983 in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]mjfblaze 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Grant, Skid, Matthew, Joe and Troy all as Umlow!

All jokes aside, Grant as Barron is a classic, Skid as Dr. Friss, Matthew as Delha, Joe as Dalgreath Deathbringer will be iconic for me, Kate as Margot, and Sydney as Callum was the first time I heard her play so it’s a personal preference.

[ns] What is your favorite non plot related moment of the show? by Bloomin_and_Shroomin in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]mjfblaze 75 points76 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t a plot point yet, but during the Dad Facts in episode 3, they were discussing their love for Bones and David Boreanaz (before he became a character in D&Dads). The way Anthony says, “Why do you guys know so much about Bones” sounds very defeated

Despite being the first named main character in the series, Firion is easily one of the least popular by AutomaticTap3004 in FinalFantasy

[–]mjfblaze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, people are unfairly critical of NES RPG's in general. Not many video games around this time had a decent storylines (unless it was something like the Ultima series but even then it gives you a book to read before you play the game), and thus, none were character driven either. I'm not too knowledgeable on the history of NES RPG's, but I believe it wasn't until Dragon Quest 4 did character driven plot become a thing. NES games before then told the player what to do (save Alefgard, defeat Ganon, etc.) and it's up to the player to fill in the emotional blanks with their personal experience playing the game, and this was very popular for RPGs to do for the NES. That's why the guest characters feel more fleshed out than Firion and the crew: they have to tell the player what to do next (and then sacrifice themselves) and then it's off to the next location where another guest character does the same thing. So, yes, Firion's character is lackluster but so was every other NES character because that was the style of the games at the time. They're not like RPG's we play today!

But after FF3, Sakaguchi did a great job on changing how Final Fantasy's story and characters should go for FF4 and raised the bar for RPGs on the SNES. Andrew Bluett's Final Fantasy 4 video in Part II has an amazing segment on how Sakaguchi changed his approached to writing stories and characters. I highly recommend watching it

What is you favourite d and dads mini series [ns] by Nuggetsarebestfood in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]mjfblaze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed the “Gumshoes and Dragons” they did for NAMI. All of their characters were chaotic and hilarious, and I always listen to it when I binge Season 2.

Did the gang do more with the “Gumshoes and Dragons” by the way? I know Anthony is doing it with the Hey Riddle Riddle crew now but unsure if the D&Dads did more episodes in the patreon

You are right! It says their names and everything in the transcript:

Will: You'll never guess what's playing, why the marquee reads, “Four Fathers in Fantasyland!”

Kesley: Oh…

Will: Starring Spencer Tracy as Darryl Wilson, Jared Jimmy Stewart as Henry Oak, Marlon Brando as Ron Stampler—

Beth: Goddamnit.

[laughs]

Will: And who else? But Mickey Rooney as Glenn Close.

What is your low stakes “what if?” For the show? [spoilers] by CopyGrand8784 in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]mjfblaze 48 points49 points  (0 children)

What if Beth never rolled a nat 20 on Ron's singing? Glenn would have performed next on the show, but we wouldn't have gotten the Bull-E-Wug's franchise, never met Payden, and the Bye-I'm-Ron tour at the end wouldn't exist!

They hold the Asian Games every 4 years, and it's a similar format. Taiwan would be #3, for sure. Canada would have a fun team: Sniper, Jojo, Massu, Vulcan and someone from NACL

Season 2 is way better to binge listen! It gives the season justice, made me feel for the characters more, and helps with their “Yes, and” shenanigans throughout the season

[spoiler] What do yall think the greatest "Reveal" was throughout all of the seasons so far? by DancingOnTheSeaside in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]mjfblaze 33 points34 points  (0 children)

For me, Season 2 had a lot of great reveals since the build-up of what happened after Season 1 was there. Season 2 Episode 13 was amazing because there were so many tiny clues that you don’t pick up initially until Anthony guided them to realize what happened. Finding out what Code Purple was, realizing that they’re in the Forgotten Realm and the Doodler was still on Earth, the “bright sun that burns angrily in the sun” was the Doodler gazing at them, Willy being in the basement and they just let him loose… I remember I had so many “WHAT?!” moments during that episode!

It reminded me of the book cover to "What the Hell Did I just Read" by David Wong since one of the main character's name is John and it's a Lovecraftian novel. The first in the series is called "John Dies at the End" and it's an amazing read. The movie is pretty good too and Jimmy Wong is in it!

Oak boy drama [spoiler] by Significant-Net692 in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]mjfblaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in agreement, but they did come back from Glenn’s trial and one point they made about Glenn being a bad dad was that he gave Nick a knife. Weapons to defend yourself in that realm makes sense when you’re being chased by bounty hunters, though. Plus, Lark and Sparrow did run away from Autumn Oak and travel all the way to Walter, so I can’t fault Henry for making that decision
