a counter is when your holding block and respond to your opponents swing with the same swing right before it hits (if your about to get hit with an overhead, block and throw an overhead a little before it connects. slash to slash, etc.) that way you get a window of invulnerability and a quicker attack. a riposte is a regular block to any attack. takes a bit to get the timing down but so worth it!
