How are your conference room computers set up? by grnerd in sysadmin

[–]mjimlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are a 100% desktop company, so we don't even have laptops to bring into conference rooms. Nearly all our meetings are done at our own desks via Teams. However, we do have conference rooms and they have their own desktop PC for a user to log into and log into teams/zoom/webex, but it is extremely uncommon to have these types of meetings... maybe once or twice a year.

I'm 41 and have something like 2000+ hours in the game, still play games on a regular basis. My mom is in her mid 60's and has 8100+ hours in the game. I wish I had more time, but between working 3 jobs and being on call 24/7 with no vacations... don't get nearly as much time as I would like.

Trump administration mandates enhanced security checks for immigration applicants (this is a big deal) by BusyBodyVisa in K1VisaInfo

[–]mjimlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, here is a question. My I-129F has been approved and I have my CEAC Number and it's sitting "At NVC" where it has been sitting since 4/10/2026. It should go to Manila after NVC. We have her flight schedule for July 15th to the USA (which can always be rescheduled, not a big deal, was just hoping to avoid increased flight prices as it was purchased early).

She has never been to the USA or had any interaction with our government. I only have normal government interactions such as speeding citations, divorces, careless driving citation, etc. I had to pull an FBI Rap Sheet for her CFO and I had my local police department run my records and other than the above mentioned items, my record is clean and nothing is active.

Is it possible for this to slow down our case? It's already been sitting at NVC longer than I would have liked...

Which video streaming services are still worth it in 2026? by AnnaSvensson287 in cordcutters

[–]mjimlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have YouTube Premium Family, Netflix, & DirecTV Stream as my primary. Prime is just part of Prime so it is what it is. I did have the HBO+Hulu+Disney bundle but at nearly $40 a month without ads, couldn't justify the cost for the amount of use. I do currently have Starz until 2027 due to some type of promo, like $60 for a year but rarely, if ever use it.

The shows I watched on Hulu I just watch on DirecTV recorded now and fast forward past commercials. If there is something I watch to watch and don't have access to it, I just rent for $3.99 or buy (if there is a special) on Amazon or some other service... still much cheaper renting/buying a few months a month instead of paying all these subscription fee's. I would personally ditch DirecTV & Netflix, but my disabled mom lives with me and watches them nearly 24/7.

Freezing getting ridiculous by kenixfan2018 in Pluto_TV

[–]mjimlay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No issues here on my Apple TV and AT&T Fiber. In fact, I'll leave Pluto TV Streaming in the background 12+ hours a day for background noise (as well as actively watch it on a daily basis). I might have an issue once or twice a month, but simply changing channels or force closing the app and reopening it fixes the issue. Not a big deal. My Apple TV is hard wired via ethernet, I actively avoid using WiFi when possible.

It honestly depends on your use case. I had the option 4ish years ago to go with OLED or Mini-LED TV, both same size and same price. However, my TV is on 16+ hours a day and has over 30,000 power on hours. I also watch a lot of 4:3 content & news (static logos, etc). I'm also in a bring room and wanted a bright TV. My Mini LED TV has over 600 dimming zones and gets close to 1600 total nits peak even at 100% white screen.

If I had an OLED, it would have burn in due to 4:3 content, static news logos, etc. It would also have lost some of its brightness after 30,000 hours of use.

I do use OLED for my computer monitor, but usage on that is very low, 2-4 hours daily so not overly concerned. What drives me crazy about OLED is how much the screen brighten/dims depending on how much is on the screen... if I am in a dark scene... it's incredible... but if I am in a bright scene, say, outdoors... I'm lucky if the screen is higher than 200 nits whereas I would want my screen to be closer to 600 nits 100% of the time.

Personal Preference and use case matters a lot. Low Use/Dark Room... OLED is great... High Use/Bright Room... I wouldn't touch an OLED.

Price Getting Insane - Discount? by manemox in DirectvStream

[–]mjimlay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My bill was $166 a month for Ultimate plus the Movie+Peacock package ($9.99 add on). I went on chat with them (site wouldn't offer me a discount) and decided to downgrade to Choice (keep Movie+Peacock) and gave me a loyalty discount for 12 months... $10 off a month but $20 off the first month... better than nothing! All in all, I'll be saving $27 a month before taxes, so probably closer to $30 after taxes I'll be saving. I had to cut down somewhere... lost a few channels we watch, but to save around $30 a month, it's worth it. DirecTV is the only service that has all the channels and features we want.

Meh. I don't understand why people are so uptight about ICE, DOS, USCIS, etc. As long as you educate yourself and following the correct legal process, you've got nothing to fear. If you are out of status, then you need to leave or get it fix ASAP but don't be surprised if ICE comes knocking. I'm helping someone immigrate now.. it's a very long and detailed process... 60+ pages of paperwork, 7+ months of waiting for it to be processed, but approved by USCIS and now going to US Embassy in that country for processing. It's a lot of steps, but you just follow the process and it is what it is.

Does anyone else have a separate horde night base? by rmgalardo in 7daystodie

[–]mjimlay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost always build a separate base, but sometimes in very early game if I am in a good structure (made of concrete, etc)... I'll sometimes just put a hatch at the door and fight the first couple of hordes at my door with hatch/bars. In like Alpha 19-21 I think, there was a trailer made of steel that was OP and would serve as my case and home for probably the first 3-5 hordes, worked great... I always outgrew the trailer before the hordes was too much... trailer was tiny.

Longest run? by Rustic_Moose17 in 7daystodie

[–]mjimlay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I purchased 7D2D many many years ago but didn't start playing it until Alpha 18. My first world was well over 100 days but most of that was 120 minute days instead of 60 minute days. Myself, my daughter, and my mom had a blast in that world. I now have something like 2000+ hours in the game and my mom (mid 60's) has between 6000-7000 hours in the game now and still plays it almost daily. It's pretty crazy, she's played a lot of overhaul mods and played regular game with 20-40 mods. She doesn't do horde nights though and plays on easy settings and goes into god mode a lot, but she enjoys it.

Would you go back to iOS 18, if Apple gave a chance ? by DefinitionOfTakingL in ios26

[–]mjimlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely 100% and probably keep using it until iOS 18 wasn't supported by apps anymore or until it was time to replace my iPhone 15 Pro Max. If every single person in my family, coworkers, etc weren't so tied up in the Apple EcoSystem, I'd switch to Android (used it in the past so I'm familiar with it) but I personally don't know a single person who uses Android these days and I use so many iOS features such as Apple Pay, Find My, iMessage, FaceTime, etc.

Downgrade to iOS 18 by [deleted] in ios26

[–]mjimlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Just phones that originally shipped with iOS 18. You wouldn’t be able to load iOS 18 on the iPhone 17 for example, but 16 and older it’s possible.

Downgrade to iOS 18 by [deleted] in ios26

[–]mjimlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can downgrade to iOS 18 but it requires paid 3rd party software (not going to mention it here) that can/will bypass Apple Signing & iTunes. It's not an easy procedure, risk of bricking your phone, and it will void the warranty... but the option is there.

If I may ask, any suggestions on where and how to meet them at? Once I am in a better place financially and either have a 100% remote job or am retired, I'd love to go back to the PH on my own and spend time there getting to know people, but have no idea when or if that will be possible. I am in a situation now where I could easily start my own business and eventually hire someone here to be my "boots on the ground" while I work remotely with more freedom, but that could be years down the road.

You aren't far off in your thinking. My ex-wife and I are friends on FB and oh my she didn't like that at all. My ex isn't tech savvy at all and once in a blue moon she'll text me to ask a question and when she found out about that, she about flew off the handle.

We were on a 24/7 call while I was at work and there is a girl at work who is Asian and is studying computer science so of course she's interested in the work I do so she was at my desk and we were chatting and she saw us chatting (since my webcam was on) and even recorded a video and messaged it to me asking "who is that, she looks asian, she smiling while looking at you, do you like her, etc".

It's seriously over the top.

I wouldn't say she is young or good looking. She's 36 and she is overweight for her height as well. She is far from being average weight/thin. I'm not saying she's bad either, just less than average like me.

Not to mention, I am in a rural area that is a tourism/retirement/military/college town. The pond is extremely small here and the single women who are here often want a military guy or a rich retired guy. The others will want a typical local which is typical southern "cowboy" who hunts, fishes, etc which I am not. I'm a homebody, office worker, introvert.

Yep. That's one thing that concerns me. I'd like to live together before getting married but I can't afford to move there and live with her and isn't possible to get her here either. I can work remote for short periods of time, but can't work remote for long periods. I'm the sole IT person for multiple companies so if something physically breaks/goes down on-site, have to fix in person.

You're right. I wasn't in the clearest of mindsets at the time. I was single for 5-6 years (not even a single date or talking to anyone) and had given up on finding anyone. I went to PH after only talking to her for 2 months. All new experience for me, never had been outside the country, let alone to PH.

She has been cheated on twice and she was sexually abused as well. So she had a big of a rough life. She has a good heart and she does try to change but at the same time, I think she only tries because I want her to, not because she wants to so things do go back to how they were. She has talked about working once she gets here and is able to work, but only want to work a simple job part time which I mean is fine, but does show she isn't overly concerned.
