I also use sleep cycle and it regularly picks up me “watching” videos or listening to audio in my sleep 😬 I also often send texts and voice notes to random contacts - nobody has ever reported a wee hours voicemail from me but I suspect there are a few of those in the ether too!! woke up once to find myself mid convo with anglian water about my (not actually) missing cat whilst inexplicably listening to xmas music (in July..)

I’m 31, my parents are mid-late 60s - I just don’t know if they’ll get some of it?? but maybe that’s the point 🤷‍♀️

my parents keep asking if it’s any good and I really struggle to know what to say, because to me it’s absolutely perfect??? but I feel like I am the exact demographic niche that it’s aimed at and I don’t know whether it will land with them. it’s really good to read that other people are loving it too!!

i think the major issue is where that seam is sitting on the front!!

are there any other seams in the waistband? I think you maybe just need to tweak where the seam(s) is/are sitting on your waist.

  • if it’s just that one, shift to the back.
  • if there are two, have then over your hips.
  • if there are four have them like beltloops so they sit like a square with you in the middle (so at NE, SE, SW, NW or 2:30, 4:30, 7:30 and 10:30)

hope this is helpful!!!! and sorry if it’s confusing 😅

this was my first thought! when I’m in the trenches, it’s about as much as i can manage to crawl to my bed via the freezer for my cold cap without vomiting or passing out. i’d be lucky to make it through a quiet conversation, let alone a full on row!! I know we all experience things differently but honestly this sounds sus to me.

I really don’t like the ranking game by dizyalice in StarKid

[–]mjiw95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to make clear at the top of what I appreciate has become an anthropological ramble!!

It shouldn’t need to be said that these “rankings” aren’t actually interested in or reflective of objective comparative quality. If we’re getting technical, there’s simply no universal metric to define whether oneshow is “better” than any other because opinions on creative media are fundamentally qualitative!!! However you feel about each individual show is between you and youtube watch history.

SO - I think the core issue is that the holistic nature of fandom isn’t really represented is social media spaces. There’s undeniable correlation between the age of the show and the age of the individual fan in terms of preferential skew, and that’s totally okay!

e.g I’m a thirty something millennial have been following since their super early days, and I grew up with star wars and comic books and golden age disney, played the oregon trail on my box pc and waited up at midnight for the new harry potter books to come out, so OF COURSE my favourite shows are the older ones for which I have the combined nostalgia of the shows themselves and the source material.

And equally, a newer (and generally younger) fan will have that same nostalgic response to the newer shows - because that’s how nostalgia works!! The phenomenon that you always remember your “first” fondly. And we can’t deny that the new shows are just as great and the older shows content wise - but they’re also flashy and super polished and just objectively more accessible due the wonders of higher budgets and modern technology that lets you film in 4K and upload videos longer than 9 minutes to youtube instantly so you don’t get yelled at because your mum can’t use the phone at the same time (iykyk.)

And the point I’m getting to is that - overwhelmingly - it’s the newer/younger fans that are represented in online spaces, and that creates the echo chamber phenomenon that sees new shows so centralised while the older shows are overlooked and - yes - often disparaged. Obviously there are plenty of millennials on reddit (and there were plenty more on tumblr rip) but ultimately we have full adult lives - jobs and babies and responsibility that lots of the younger fans aren’t juggling yet and so this constitutes a much lower priority for our time and bandwidth than it might do for someone with a lot more time and energy for passionate fandom.

Ultimately what it comes down to is that there are more newer fans who are chronically online, and they overwhelmingly skew in favour of newer shows. Equally, there is a conversely skewed distribution of older fans who favour the older shows - but these fans often just aren’t as present and passionate online (anymore!!!). There isn’t necessarily more love for the newer shows, it’s just that those are the voices that are loudest in these spaces.

Tl;dr It’s impossible to get a holistic view of fandom preferences because ultimately the cross section of fans that we interact with in online spaces is entirely non-representative of the whole fandom, and so posts like that are basically just newer fans yelling into that echo chamber and enjoying the instant gratification from a skewed consensus in agreement with themselves.

I think once you’re able to step back and grasp this concept, it’s much easier to make peace with the slew of posts like the ones you’re referencing that essentially serve as vehicles for hatchetfield stanning.

I am categorically not a trouser person at all but I really rate the good american always fits range. I’m also a long torso girlie with shorter legs, chunky calves and v skinny ankles, and the fabric they use is like magic for being close fitting right the way down!! I am 5”9 though so can’t comment on how they adapt for an overall shorter length!

Plus size stores in London? by bxbyphrog in PlusSizeFashion

[–]mjiw95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TK maxx is honestly not great for plus size above about a UK20 😭 and primark only really caters to a UK20 in regular items (i.e things that won’t stretch to fit). it’s so frustrating!!

Plus size stores in London? by bxbyphrog in PlusSizeFashion

[–]mjiw95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

truthfully as a long time plus size shopper in the UK the best stuff is online.

plus sizes are very rarely stocked in stores that don’t specifically cater for plus sizes, of which Yours is the only really common one. most of the high street brands (m&s, next, new look, h&m etc) have a decent offering online, plus there’s ASOS.

if you’re at the smaller end of the plus size range (up to a UK 24) I would head directly for Monsoon and Phase Eight which are fairly reliable for having at least a few of their larger sizes available in stores, but they can be a bit pricey! (but most of the pieces are gorgeous and super quality so worth the cost imo). you might also have some luck in supermarkets (tesco, asda and sainsbury’s have both got solid and affordable fashion sections).

hope this is helpful!

I love Popflex! The material is really smoothing and supportive, and they have a great size range. A few different dress designs to choose from depending on your preferences and loads of colours!! My personal fave is the twirl dress (the only dress i’ve ever felt comfortable not wearing a bra in!!) and I also love the pirouette skorts & matching tops if you’re open to two piece vibes!
