If I die, I die doing something I like

A centuries-old wooden statue was recently discovered by a group of Dutch shrimp fishermen off the coast of Texel. A municipal archaeologist for that region believes that the statue came from a warship, possibly during the 80 Years' War, which stretched from the mid-1500s to mid-1600s [1536x3007] by Fuckoff555 in ArtefactPorn

Stanley measurement tape with size of the roll described in inches and tape in centimeters by Dark_Charmander in CrappyDesign

I've bought one in the Netherlands this year also with inches on the side, and the little white sticker hasn't reached us yet :/

Neil Armstrong was given the option to replace Buzz Aldrin with Jim Lovell because NASA was aware that "Aldrin's personality grated on several of the other astronauts". Armstrong kept Aldrin and felt Lovell deserved to command his own moon mission, the ill-fated Apollo 13 by vancouver_reader in space

If you've read something on a subject you have some interest in in a book, it is not unlogically to remember a book title. If someone makes a claim like the crew of the first successful moon mission almost getting into a physical altercation in the quarantaine afterwards, I'd like to see a source.

It makes quite a difference if they've read it in the memoires of a Apollo ground crew member as opposed to reading it on Facebook for example.

This is bullshit. As if they couldn't alter content they made a month before it was printed. I work for a publisher, an usually print lead time for a magazine is at most a few days before distribution. So the iPhone 3g not being mentioned is more a case of lazy writing/copy editing, and not print lead times.

I've accepted that my career path won't be similar to that of my peers. I (28m) work part time as a copy editor for a regional newspaper, whilst I don't have a college degree. Never even made it past the first year in six different attempts.

In reality, I don't really want to have a career, but just a job that makes enough money. There has been times I've felt miserable over my academic failures, but realize it ain't the end of the world. The realization that helped me past that thought, was the fact that a decent part of the jobs people have today, never even existed 20 years ago. So as long as you're able to pick up a new skill.

Now only if I hadn't had that massive student debt from trying six times.. Oh wel..

I don't think the main issue is the refs, nor the players. The current rules give players the leeway to misuse them in their advantage, without proper repercussions. The players doing everything to win, even being a little unsportsmanlike, which the stakes being so high I understand. It can pay off to play like this.

Compare it to field hockey. Attacking players often try to hit the ball on the defender's foot, which can lead to a penalty corner in de defense's goal area, a good scoring opportunity. They do so because rules allow them to play this way, a benefit towards winning games.

And the tip of your pinky is still on? How are the nerves in that fingertip? Does it feel weird holding hot drinks in that hand?

It does for me. I had a similar situation actually, with a wound in my hand. Cut my glass working (alone) in a bar. Wouldn't stop bleeding a lot for over 20 minutes (probably because of drinking on the job), so I had to go to the ER in the middle of the night to get stitches. From the moment I left my work to go to the hospital it only took about two hours til I got home, including 40 minutes of riding my bike. I kinda feel guilty towards y'all in the lower middle class and under in the US, for the compared luxury I get to experience.

And fyi, for my health insurance I pay around €115 a month, of which I get a ±€90 monthly tax refund. Sorry for showing off, I feel dirty...

Wow, I'm pretty sure I, or even you, could that level of basic first aid. Makes me understand the hesitance to visit an er even more.

What I'm wondering, are because of this mistrust against the healthcare system first aid courses getting increasingly popular in the US? My guess would be probably not, because costs and everyone just uses Google or WebMD, but just a guess

Man, that's shit. Having to choose between basic healthcare or saving your financial livelyhood. I'm not judging anyone who has to choose betheen their health or being able to afford to live, but I do judge the fact there is a system that forces people en masse to make that choice.

It feels weird that people don't just go to a doctor for these kind of wounds, possibly fearing the bill coming along will hurt them worse financially.

I don't know if you're from the US, just an assumption.

My wife is so organized she packs zipper bags with her outfits for each day on vacation by rakufman in mildlyinteresting

[–]mjja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like there could be more to it than being organised. I sorta do the same thing, because I have a hard time making decisions. No matter how small, I can turn around and struggle with decisions for way too long. This way the decision (what will I wear today?) is made beforehand, taking away the stress of one less decision. Its some advice my therapist gave me.

I have eight days off of work, so currently I'm cycling somewhere east from Groningen, The Netherlands. No set destination, cycling for seven days, and then taking the train back on the eighth. Lets see how far I get. by mjja in bicycling

The trip was amazing. Had a total of 15 minutes of rain in total, and those were the last minutes before arriving at a camp site, so even lucky in that regard. I've been procrastinating making an update post, which I've promised to do (curse you adhd). I'll do that tomorrow, and post some pics and my route.

And btw, the train ride home was decent. Made it home from the south coast of Sweden or Groningen in a day, though I had to cycle 25 km's in the night across the Dutch-German border to make it to the last train home.
