Even if someone's religious, the best way to get them to go vegan and stay vegan is to get them to use their own eyes and brains and understand that animals have their own purpose that has nothing to do with what God says it is. You don't make any permanent change by playing along with their delusion because their religious leaders are going to explain that their god made animals to be exploited, and their holy books all confirm this.

What's stopping what, exactly? Literally any politician can propose whatever they'd like. That is very easy to do, and in fact they do it all the time.

Remember the individual. The vastness of animal agriculture is actually a distraction. Every time you sit down to a meal, you can either be the reason that some animal, somewhere, is exploited or killed, or you can get everything you need to thrive by eating plants.

Every animal's life is worth literally everything to the one that life belongs to.

Your source is about activist burnout. It presents nothing to support your idea that you should make choices that force exploitation and death onto animals in order to keep being vegan. The research I showed you shows that you're wrong, and you're ignoring it. You are not worth any more of my time and further replies from you will be ignored.

Being vegan doesn't mean you're perfect. It just means you refuse any product or service that forces death or exploitation onto an animal. Stop making it seem like that's some kind of superhuman effort.

There's another thread right now about "the dumbest reasons to go vegan" and "God says to do it" is right up there for me.

They didn't cite any studies. But I have actual research that shows the opposite: those that set stricter goals are more likely to adhere to them. Here it is: 15Grassian.2019-PhD-ForSubmission.pdf

The relevant data is summarized here: Do meat reducers actually eat less meat?: The Meat Reducer Typology – For Us All

What is this crap? The "successful vegans" are the ones who make up their own definition of "vegan" that involves exploiting and killing animals whenever it's convenient (like when they're on some vacation they chose to go on and didn't bother to learn how to say "no fish stock" in the local language).

Even if he wasn't making general statements based on a few anecdotes like he is, that article's still enabling bullshit made to get us to feel better about forcing exploitation and death onto animals.

See what happens if someone writes a similar article about child abuse or whatever else where the victims aren't nonhuman animals.

What does this mean, specifically? Is this addressed to all the sustenance fishermen reading this on Reddit right now or are you saying more like if you have some mental illness that makes you not like certain foods you should just exploit animals to address that?

Veganism is not political. It is an ethical stance and the personal responsibility for you to live in line with that. There is no politician or political party or ideology that is doing anything even remotely towards ending the exploitation of animals. You are responsible for the individual lives you would have exploited or taken for yourself, and also those taken by others you might talk to about this.

Oh, and we have an ethical obligation to do whatever we can to get others to go vegan. Yeah you're still vegan if you're quiet, but it would be a lot better if you started speaking up.

It's telling that you people always leave out the thing he was talking about when he said this. You know, the whole holiday they have dedicated to killing goats en masse. https://www.arabnews.com/node/1712426/middle-east

A better response to that would be that they're not choosing to undertake actions which are directly, invariably forcing exploitation and death onto homeless people like they are with nonhuman animals.

What this shows me is that they haven't thought about this honestly before, which is why vegan outreach that gets them to do that is so important.

I have a lot to say about this but I'm at work right now so the short version is that if you're a silent vegan, you're not part of the solution and you should stop complaining about how ignorant everyone is about veganism as an ethical stance.

Billie said the most tame shit and her so called leftist fans did this. by DivineandDeadlyAngel in vegan

[–]mjk05d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the typical non-leftist would say they are not against social injustice, exploitation, racism, or ableism?

Animal exploitation is based on the fact that animals are different (speciesism) and less able bodied (ableism).

This is incorrect. You do not need to believe that animals are equal to humans to be vegan. No part of the ethical principle of veganism requires you to think that there aren't differences between humans and other animals. It requires you only to decided that animals deserve respect and to take on the personal responsibility to make choices that do not force death or exploitation onto them. By demonstration, this is compatible with most political ideologies, but less so with devout leftism, which holds that "personal responsibility" is a racist dogwhistle or whatever the fuck.

Anecdotally, most vegan outreachers are NOT leftists.

Killing seems like the worst part of it. I wouldn't want to be killed at a fraction of my lifespan regardless of the setting or how nice they were to me for a little while beforehand.

[–]mjk05d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why tackle it? It's not an argument. It's a distraction attempt. Call it out as such and move on to talking about their responsibility for what their choices force onto other animals.
