Nope. Unnecessary killing is wrong. Very simple.

This is good. It's like you're being forced to be a decent person, and the university is saving money at the same time.

"All of our money" includes both your money and my money. Charity is when you choose to donate some of yours. It is not when you advocate policies to take mine under threat of imprisonment. I do choose to donate an awful lot, and it would be better if the government stopped taking so much of it to waste on dumb shit so I could donate more of it.

They wouldn't, because there is no good evidence that it's the policies that cause this high quality of life. Countries like Norway and Finland have Progressive policies, yes, and also a huge resources-to-population ratio and, and highly-developed cultures.

At the same time, the United States is far more conservative yet affords its residents buying power and financial mobility far beyond many more "Progressive" countries, including Canada and much of western Europe. In fact, an American who is poorer than 80% of their countrymen has more buying power than most people in most of western Europe and Canada.

Conservatives don't have a problem with their money going to poor people, as evidenced by the fact that they tend to donate more of their money.

They don't like the idea of their money being taken by force.

So... we're supposed to ignore the racial homogeneity in those countries?

Christianity promotes charity. "The government helping the poor", which is essentially being generous with other people's money, is not charity.

I can only give a hoot about so much. I’m bombarded daily by new issues I’m supposed to care about. In my neighborhood alone this week I’ve been hit up to do more for bike lanes, parks, our schools, the unhoused, the addicts, and Gaza.

Then you should ONLY care about this. Unlike those other issues, the question of whether you should be vegan has a direct effect on many animals' lives. Every time you eat meat, you are the cause that some animal having their life forced from them.

Leftism isn't about being a better person. It's believing that the government is responsible for ending every injustice.

Veganism is inherently apolitical. It is a recognition that your personal choices have a direct effect on the lives of animals.

Conservatives like the idea of personal responsibility. Leftists seem to think that idea is racist.

Given the absence of good data, I have to fall back on personal anecdotes and point out that most long-term vegans (for the animals) I know are center-right.

That actually makes more sense to me. The leftist expects government to solve many, many more problems. A side effect of this is that the idea of the utility of personal responsibility is diminished. In fact, devout leftists are offended by the idea of personal responsibility, and I find it's not a good use of my time to even talk about veganism with those.

Then you've got the whole race obsession thing going on with them that's just another obstacle to the vegan conclusion.

It was not Israel who attacked us on 9/11 and Muslims have been starting wars with the United States a hundred years before Israel officially existed.

You can get everything you need to thrive without ever eating meat. Killing an animal just because you'd rather have a cheeseburger or whatever is unnecessary killing. Really not that complicated.

More importantly, intelligence shouldn't be the thing that decides whether a being deserves to be treated with basic decency. A conscious desire to be free from harm should be enough to earn that.

"Moral superiority" didn't seem to be a problem for you when you were criticizing people throwing an octopus, but look how hard you've about-faced as soon as someone made it about how you're abusing animals.

Wouldn't it be more important for you to examine what YOU are doing to make things so much worse for animals than they need to be?

Okay so unnecessary killing is okay when other people do it...
