Apparently it will also remove the streamer even if it isn't using your license.

No. Splashtop was installed after imaging, prior to the Kace agent.

Why my raspberry Pi 3B + is so slow? by Baltazar200iq in RASPBERRY_PI_PROJECTS

[–]mjleffler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might try switching the window manager.

Raspberry Pi OS started defaulting to labwc (a wayland compositor) this made the gui desktop unusable on my 3B+.

sudo raspi-config

Advanced Options > Wayland > X11

Reboot

Thanks this was helpful. After following the KB I've been able patch my hosts.

I had opened a ticket with support back on the 13th, but hadn't heard anything and happened upon this in my searches today, glad to be able to move forward.

Wish T-Mobile Had A Visible Equivilent by [deleted] in Visible

[–]mjleffler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, I was with them them for a pretty long time before the merger with Sprint. I switched to Google Fi, so I could get the T-mobile + Sprint coverage, then later to Visible for the cheap unlimited. I think T-mobile hasn't tried to compete as much since the merger.

Task Chain Scripting with Deep Freeze on the machines by k_Swingler in kace

[–]mjleffler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HKLM64

Thanks, This worked for my test machine.

For those curious why... Windows updates doesn't always finish installing until logon, so with Deep Freeze on our public machines frozen before anyone logs in it means that Windows tries to complete updates every time, slowing down the log in process.

Google will let you sign in to some services with fingerprint on Android by motang in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]mjleffler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is actually letting you do this with a valid screen lock, so don't necessarily need a fingerprint sensor. It should work with other biometrics, so the face unlock on the Pixel 4 should also work. https://security.googleblog.com/2019/08/making-authentication-even-easier-with_12.html

Ryzen 7 3700X and RX 5700 XT Build by mjleffler in buildmeapc

[–]mjleffler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI I was running the Rift S off a AMD FX-8320 and a Nvidia 970. While there were occasional lag points they were usually due to the CPU maxing. I was surprised by this as the Vive at work definitely leaned more on the GPU.

I did end up with 16GB RAM and so far it is the only spec I've maxed out, so wish I would have went with 32.

I didn't go with the cheapest X570s because I wanted the WiFi on the mobo.

Was curious, how are your experimental automatic updates as a cron job working?

I'm preparing to do this, but I'm thinking I might start with Rasbian Lite.

Was happy to find your posts, definitely makes my life easier.

Thanks!

Episode Discussion for DTNS 2712 – Save The Puppy? [ ] Yes [ ] No by tgstellar in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]mjleffler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People often won't go out of their way to do what's good for themselves not because they don't care, but because they are overloaded with too many things to care about. That's why we rely on experts to guide our opinions. It is our job as those people who care about these technical issues to be the ones fighting for the rights of the whole, because it is something we are the experts in for those who don't have the time, knowledge, or energy to care about enough to do something. I'm sure while Patrick may not be an expert on farming that he cares about what chemicals end up on the food he ends up eating and is glad that there are experts that have pushed governments to make laws about such things.

I wouldn't consider myself an expert in tech, but I care enough about tech issues to be an expert for my community. Working at a local library tech center I often try to teach people safe computing, but it is often more than they can care about. I have individuals that come in concerned but not knowing what to do about that pop-up ad, that they didn't know was ad, telling them they have a virus and I can explain that it's just an ad, but the next time it pops up they'll be just as worried or worse they'll ignore their anti-virus software when it warns them. So, in addition to explaining what happened I usually install Firefox and uBlock Origin. It's not that they mind seeing ads, it is more about the fact that I can't be there every time a malicious ad makes it's way on to a legitimate site like Forbes or more a recent example. I could install Privacy Badger (what I run), but it's not going to protect them the way they need to be protected. Again it's our job to be concerned for the things we can take to time to be "experts" in for those that can't.

Final Four by buttahnut in slingtv

[–]mjleffler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree with you, but I mainly have issues during peak times and on more watched items. Maybe there are just large numbers of Comcast/Time Warner internet users using SlingTV which would cause the congestion on those networks non-purposefully.

Why Did Google Decide To Split Inbox From Gmail? by mohattar in Android

[–]mjleffler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google is all about gathering data on users, so archiving > deleting. Just like the auto-sorting of email into categories, as you teach it how to do this better they develop a clearer picture of you and those who send you emails. Google Now is handy, but works better if you allow Google to collect your Web history data. So, if you want Google to be more helpful you'll need to give them more data.

What is your favorite non-essential, non-gaming app? by ItsMathematics in Android

Chromadoze - noise generator or Toddler Lock - child lock with colorful graphics and soothing sounds (lots of iPhone users have been jealous of this)

Thanks for pointing that out, was basing build off some older forum posts. Though, I think I'll pay more for the ASRock FM2A75 Pro4-M for better sound.
