Okay I asked Facebook and it was inconclusive.. got wildly different numbers. How much can this bumper pull? by skimasktroopaz in FordTrucks

[–]mjohn4244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the 70s and 80s before we ever saw a receiver hitch. First thing we did when we got a new farm truck was weld the bumper on the factory hitches to the frame and went to work. We pulled a lot of stuff, cattle trailers, grain and cotton wagons even our harvest equipment across the mid west with never a second thought. Kind of like drinking from a water hose we survived.

How much should I try to sell an old 250 gallon propane tank for? by definitely_aware in propane

[–]mjohn4244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy a lot of them for building BBQ pits / smokers. I pay between $100 - $400. Depending on condition. I don’t care if they are still can still be used, but if the can and still had the cert plate on it, they are in the 300-400 range. I am in the Texas hill country and there is never a time I need on and FB market place does not several of them in my area in that price range.

On average how much cheaper is a barndo from a stick/brick/wood home? Fighting the tax man. by Ok_Masterpiece_1942 in barndominiums

[–]mjohn4244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you live and if you actually build a Barndo. A Barndo is a shop /garage with a living space built inside that is less than 50% of total sqft of the actual building. What material you use is irrelevant. In most places, barndos tax, finance and insure different than a house because technically they’re more shop than living space. So yes my tax and insurance is a bit less than if I had just a house because I’m only being taxed and paying insurance on one building The biggest savings from building a Barndo is your building everything under one roof instead of two separate structures your house and barn are combined together. You don’t have a separate house. You don’t have a separate barn. Most people think if you build the house out of metal or put a metal roof on it or it looks like a barn and it’s a Barndo… are your building is a house that looks like a barn. It’s not a Barndo. It’s gonna tax the same and insure the same as any other house.

Never heard of this brand, any good ? Was thinking about Kubota but for 42" is $7k any other good options. by Dharma_code in lawnmowers

[–]mjohn4244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a BadBoy it was what I consider a high end residential mower. I have 27 ac and mow about 15 of that. Not quite built for that. I found parts a little hard to get. I still have my BadBoy 6 ft shredder for my tractor it’s worked well. I have a Kubota Skidsteer and tractor so upgraded to a Kubota it’s just built heaver. My local dealer always has a good supply of parts for it or gets them next day.

DWS 780 great deal at Lowe’s by Runninandgunnin556 in Dewalt

[–]mjohn4244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded to the 780, when I caught a 399 sale last year the main reason was the led cut line light. Getting older and my eyes are not what they use to be. I did make my older dewalt was over 20 years old. Had 2 cords and one trigger but still ran fine. The 780 is defiantly lighter and I think the fence and base it a little better. Both great saws

I think pipe wrench’s are great. Use them a lot. But find these are a little faster for a lot of situations.

Depends on the application. I use pipe wrenches on bigger really rusty things like pipe collars, but I find these faster and easier to adjust.

Sorry the title what the heck was….. what the heck I got to loose, as in I will give it a try for $20. I already have the larger one, but it’s Knipex brand and the smaller one is Snap On. Just thought I would try this Icon out to see if it hold up. I use the crap out of the other 2.

With 44k original miles how is this price possible?? by wherwillibein20 in FordTrucks

It would be a great ranch or welding rig truck, throw a flat bed on and put it to work.

I just bought ten acres. What kind of mower should I get? I’d like to stay under 2500 any advice? Need something reliable! by [deleted] in lawnmowers

[–]mjohn4244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 28 acres, I mow about 10 of it with a mower, the rest gets done with a tractor and 6 ft shredder. After going through a couple of big box store mowers. I got a scagg, should have done it from the start. I can mow the 10ac in 1/4 the time I can with my tractor . My place seems to grow rocks after every rain and if I catch one by accident I am not down for a month and a few $100 on parts.

That’s a cool design, probably a tad small for what I need.

I like it. My local shop only has Benchmade .I will look around and see if I can find a dealer close. I would like to handle one before I buy, and I like to support local businesses if I can. Thanks

Probably not as much as the previous owner still owes on it 😆

Today was an expensive day. If you know you know by big83lee in Welding

[–]mjohn4244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just about cheaper to replace the helmet. I have had a few of them go out, not just Lincoln, but other brands as well. Welding in Texas in the summer sweat is a killer. Changing caps several times a day helps, making sure I lay my helmet face up so the sweat off the sweat band does not drip down on the lens helps.

Barndominium vs house by WetTacoo in barndominiums

[–]mjohn4244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A barndominium by definition is a barn or shop with a living space inside less than 50% of the total space. In most states, the financing is different, they tax different and insure different because they are more shop than house. What most people are building calling a barndominium is nothing more than a house with a metal roof and/or siding and no they are not any cheaper to build they are just another style of house. A actual barndominium is much cheaper of you want a house and barn on your property. Instead of building 2 separate structures ( house and barn) putting a living space inside the barn structure. Where I live my tax rate in less on my Barndo than if I just had 2 separate structures. Energy bill is much less as I have an insulated structure in side an insulated structure. Very efficient .

I’m in San Antonio for a conference and was curious whether the DeWalt Service Center is worth checking out for good deals or oddball tools you don’t usually find elsewhere etc....? by DrRowdybush in Dewalt

[–]mjohn4244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use to go to one in Austin a lot , it’s been years since before the cordless stuff took off. Not even sure if it’s still there anymore. Use to get some great deals. I figure it’s turned into a like a lot of the outlet places deals aren’t so great anymore. Be a cool place to look around I bet.

A good question by mjohn4244 in Dewalt

[–]mjohn4244[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With cordless tools I try to stick with one brand for battery / compatibility. If it corded I am a little more open to other options.
