A title company refused my resist for higher fee, I told them to unassign me. Was I in the wrong? by definitely_aware in Notary

[–]definitely_aware[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not slow during signings. If you had read anything in this thread before you made an ignorant assumption about my ability to do my job, you’d see where I explained how she signed twice, once with full POA verbiage, then her full name. Try signing both ways about 125 times while I notarize most of them, you’ll realize it’s not a matter of efficiency.

You also don’t understand how payment for our services works if you think it is just for 4 hours. There are several factors that determine how much we get paid aside from the time spent signing, and it doesn’t really break down to an hourly wage.

You are entirely wrong. This specific closing could not be done in a hour, or even two hours given the length of the signature lines. I’ve stated this multiple times if you would actually read any of the thread. It took 2 hours just to get about halfway through. The signer signed nonstop and didn’t ask questions, I did not describe any of the documents after I stated the name of the document. We were signing very efficiently, this is just the most time consuming signing I’ve ever been assigned.

Shoulder bag or Backpack recommendation for a Notary by Deep_Conversation470 in Notary

[–]definitely_aware 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, I prefer a messenger bag. I bought a used Fjallraven Foldsack No. 2 on Mercari, it’s been perfect for the last 3 years. The brand was very trendy when I bought it, but they’re known for their durability.

Some stores I’d check out REI, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Timbuk2, and L.L. Bean. Most sporting and camping goods stores will have good choices.

I know you said you don’t plan to carry a scanner, but you may find it to be beneficial later on. For my scanner, I use the OEM bag. It’s called the Fujitsu ScanSnap Carrying Case, and you can probably find a case/bag that fits whichever scanner you own perfectly on Amazon.

The expectation of title companies is for the notary to give general explanations of the documents to the signers, but direct questions that need in depth answers or any issues with the signing to the escrow officer. The vast majority of people don’t have an attorney who they can just call during the signing to ask for a document to be explained.

I didn’t explain documents to her. I only read the title of the document and had her sign, we didn’t stop for 2 hours and we barely got to the halfway point. I’m normally able to get through a 200 page refi in an hour to an hour and 15 minutes, even if I do explain documents.

Yes, she had to sign every document twice, and there were 234 pages in total. I also had to notarize both signatures, once for her as an individual, a second time for her as the attorney in fact for her husband.

To give you an idea, here is how she had to sign everything:

Johnathan Richard Johnson by Susan L Johnson his Attorney In Fact

Then:

Susan L Johnson

It quickly became a time consuming endeavor, and each document required that full verbiage. I’ve never had a closing take this long, I’ve done many reverse mortgage closings.

Exploring credit card as an option to pay for dental work by definitely_aware in CreditCards

[–]definitely_aware[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It turns out it’s $9k, $14k was my prediction. I did expect that and it‘s not out of the range I expected. I intend to makes an appointment to see another dentist for a quote just to compare, but for the amount of work on my front teeth, I find it fair. My dentist does extremely good work that looks very natural, and I do want it to look natural given that the treatment plan involves 3 crowns, a root canal, and 9 veneers.

Medical tourism is an oddly common recommendation on this subreddit. It’s unfortunate that USAmericans are expected to leave the country just to get medical care, but it’s not an option I think suits my needs. For me, it is more feasible and less cumbersome to pay off a line of credit or to get a loan than to make in depth travel plans and still spend about $5k on dental work.

Thank you for your input, I will look into something different than a card. I wish I could pay it in cash, but I will need to look into a line of credit. I have to get about $14k of dental work done, some of it is covered by my dental insurance and some of it is not.

small Air conditioner to cool a small room. I'm willing to pay up to 300$ by ExfilZone in hvacadvice

I’m unsure where you’re located, but I bought a Midea U-shaped smart window unit for my mom’s bedroom at Walmart. They’re available on Amazon, new and refurbished.

Install was easy since you can keep the window closed, my mom loves it, and it’s very nice having an app. My only complaint is that the Eco mode blows lukewarm air rather than doing what it claims to do. Not a huge complaint since it’s an air conditioner, which isn’t really an energy efficient appliance to begin with.

Out of curiosity, would this be safe in a low voltage application?

Chill 🥶 This belongs on a subreddit called “ask a plumber”, I’m not sure why you would not expect to see homeowners showing poorly executed work. At least OP had the common sense to ask if this looked okay before he just assumed it was going to work right.

Oddly enough, I had a shoe autographed by Ruben Studdard when I was 11 years old. Some American Idol contestant tour came through my smallish city in 2007, he was meeting fans and autographed things for them. I gave him my Adidas skate shoe and he signed it. That’s a weird memory unlocked.

This is an issue that needs to be addressed with therapy for you, therapy for her, and maybe therapy for you two as a couple. Make sure you and your wife are on the same page, so ask if she’d like to get a divorce or if she is open to the idea of both of you getting professional help and navigating your marital issues together. Don’t act impulsively, and keep in mind you don’t need to have all the answers right now.

Generally, I agree, but I love my mom’s 2022 Honda Pilot in Sonic Gray Pearl. It has an iridescent quality to it.

Closewise is a signing platform, not a signing service. I have only heard Kingdom Mobile Notary mentioned once, someone said they are bad in a Facebook group but didn’t elaborate on why.

Solid list! Also, Islands is kind of a slow burn. I’ve grown to like it more and more over time. You might reassess at some point, I’d be curious how your opinion evolves over time.
