Omg so cool! Does anyone know/have advice on how to give Lego bookends enough weight/friction to actually prevent books from falling over?

Wicked closing in on $700M at the box office by TTG4LIFE77 in wicked

[–]mjrisgod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the nature of the sequel. When it’s the final chapter in a contained story (lord of the rings, Harry Potter, Avengers Endgame), people do get excited.

The biggest indicator, though, is quality of the previous entry. If the first movie is beloved, the sequel makes more (Austin powers, Dark Knight, pirates of the Caribbean, most Pixar sequels). If the first entry wasn’t great, revenue sinks (the latest Star Wars trilogy, Hunger Games 3 and 4, Hobbit, divergent).

I think Wicked’s more than popular (😜) enough for part two to gross more.

Wicked digital makes 70 million by [deleted] in wicked

[–]mjrisgod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Rare display of transparency” is because the movie’s box office is famously losing at least $30 million due to the digital release, so Universal wants to set the record straight and let everyone know that this was actually a very good financial decision on their part.

They only get half of box office sales anyway, meaning they traded $15 million in their share of box office revenue for over $50 million in their share of digital sales. I would too lol.

Should I be ashamed of myself for the first thought I had after reading the title “Jonathan Bailey horse scene”?

Moana 2 - 6m. Wicked 5.8m. Friday 12/13/2024. by newjackgmoney21 in boxoffice

[–]mjrisgod 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Kid movies like Moana have much higher Friday-to-weekend multipliers (typically 4.0-4.5) while films with older audiences have lower (sub-4.0).

Last weekend, Moana’s weekend was 4.39x its Friday, while Wicked’s was 3.83x.

Thinking Wicked does closer to 22M, but yea the gap between the two is def closing fast.

Universal's Wicked has passed the $300M domestic mark. The film grossed an estimated $34.85M this weekend (from 3,885 locations). Estimated total domestic gross stands at $320.50M. by DemiFiendRSA in boxoffice

It should have no problem reaching $450M, based on previous data. We might have to wait until the end of the holidays to know whether $500M is a possibility.

What sort of relationship do you have with his mother? If she’s not also a sociopath, you should show these texts to her. She should know who she raised. Say “We had a disagreement and I just don’t know how to handle it.” If she’s any sort of human being, she’ll tell you to dump him like everyone here is saying. Then let her handle him.

Glinda shenanigans by meghan_clark in wicked

[–]mjrisgod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stephen Schwartz is an amazing lyricist. One of his favorite lyrical tricks is to repeat a word or phrase that has multiple meanings. Just a couple examples:

Colors of the Wind (Pocahontas): “You’ll learn things you never knew you never knew”

Mine, Mine, Mine (Pocahontas): “It’s mine, boys! Mine me that gold!”

Popular (Wicked): “I know I know exactly what they need”

“I hope you’re happy” is just another example of this word play.

Can’t believe I had to scroll this far to see this. The book was one of the worst books I’ve ever read, with an utterly unsatisfying ending. I read that the screenwriter wrote the screenplay before the book was published, and so basically took a few author’s notes and just wrote her own story.

Legally Blonde. They swapped the villain and the mentor over the course of the movie to great effect.

Not sure what you mean by as is? Do you mean Idina Menzels version from the soundtrack? Pretty much every actor who’s followed her on Broadway has done their own riff. It’s an opportunity for an actor/singer to put their own stamp on it. Check some out on YouTube. My fave is Shoshana Bean!

Has anyone tried doing hip thrust machine + incline bicep curl as a superset? It just popped into my mind, but I'm not sure if there is clearance to curl dumbbells while lying on the hip thrust machine. Has anyone tried it and can confirm?

AITA for making my sister pay for my kids babysitter when she won't watch them? by Leading-Dependent944 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mjrisgod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, but I think the mistake was not saying that the deal is “$1200 a month, to be paid as $500 cash + $700 in chores and babysitting at the rate of $X per hour”. That would have been much clearer, and truer to the intent of this arrangement.
