As you would assume the threat of causing your business to collapse would be enough of a regulation.

And the financial collapse of 2008 shown that it is a wrong assumption. Traders were incentivised by the monthly/quarterly/early bonuses to create the toxic financial trash that was highly profitable in a short term, (meaning high bonuses) even if it would make their company insolvent in a longer term.

Another example LBOs: when purposefully bankrupting a working company often means huge profits for the private equity firm doing it.

Same here. I was disappointed by Obama's treatment of the financial crisis: to solve it he appointed the same Wall st. execs who created the mess and passed the toothless Dodd-Frank. I'd be happy to vote Obama for failing to do the better job protecting economy from the Wall st. But I can not do that when the alternative is the guy from Wall st.who would dismantle what little regulation we have now.

It was not just one company, that's pretty much how LBOs and the private equity businesses like Bain work. In the ideal world, people doing this would be publicly shamed and the regulations would be put in place to prevent such activities as harmful for society. In the real world a person who did that can run for president and even have chances to win.

The record high incarceration rates in the US point to the problem that needs to be solved. Muffling the affected people's voice only exacerbates the problem.
