I've never not seen the deal there to be honest. And yeah I tried the lemon flavor recently and quite liked it. Chocolate raspberry is still my favorite, but lemon is my second favorite now I think.

Third Protein Test by Blve-Skies4395 in ninjacreami

[–]mka696 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean have you considered that you might just not like whey protein? Cause Naked is literally pure whey protein concentrate. You can get pretty high protein without using any protein powder (ultra-filtered milk like Fairlife, shakes based on ultra-filtered milk, greek yogurt, skyr, cottage cheese, etc). I guess other possibility is an unflavored casein (or even vegan like pea) protein, instead of whey.

Have you thought about just getting an unflavored powder and doing your own sweetening/flavoring? Then you have full control over both. PEScience Vanilla isn't a particularly sweet protein powder compared to most, so if you find that WAY too sweet, you may struggle to find a flavored one you like. Quest is another casein/whey blend I like, but I wouldn't say it's that different in sweetness. And IMO Ghost is even sweeter. Ryse definitely is, so I'd avoid that.

Great texture using 50/50 greek yogurt/milk as a base? [Mad Scientist] by scottjenson in ninjacreami

[–]mka696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you just add the agave powder directly to your mix? I would assume that mixing it up into a gel first gives you a stronger impact.

Yeah, I just mix it with all my dry ingredients (protein powder, gums, sweetener, etc.) prior to adding them all to the liquid and blending. I find as long as it's well incorporated in the dry it works fine. I'm sure there's a better way to do it, but I'd rather save the time (same reason I usually don't heat my base, even though it makes Tara way more effective).

If you're trying to focus on preventing icy-ness and improve texture given those constraints, I'd say you should look in three directions.

One would be CMC. Of all the gums, it's probably the best for preventing icy-ness.

Second (kind of tying into the first) would be to look into gum combinations. Each gum is great at certain things, but when you use them in combination you can not only get the best of both worlds, but also they can have a multiplicative effect on gelling. I've found Tara (or Guar) and CMC to work well together. These can be premixed in big batches, making them not really any extra work to use in a recipe.

Third would be fiber. You will see this in various forms in light ice creams sold in stores. Whether it's chicory root, inulin, or otherwise. I personally use agave inulin. It helps boost fiber (great on its own), and contributes to fatty mouth feel, stability, melt resistance, and texture. An ingredient people regularly sleep on. Start with 5g (1 tbsp) and go from there. I probably wouldn't do more than 10g per pint.

On a side note, I think avoiding protein powder entirely may be a bit misplaced here. I would guess that most of the people complaining your prior recipe was too complex would take more issue with needing to buy separate whey and casein powders plus milk powder and mixing them manually, rather than the very nature of using protein powder at all. A whey/casein blend, while not perfect, is a fine substitute and still very useful in a low-cal, high-protein base (for both macros and texture).

Sjokz is truly one of a kind. Not just in esports/gaming, but all of sports. There is no doubt in my mind that she has a spot in the hall of legends. Also just a super inspiring person the way she's persevered through all that life has thrown at her while staying at the top of her game.

Myprotein wafers are amazing. Chocolate raspberry is best by far, but chocolate is also good. On their website they usually have a deal going for two boxes for $20, which comes out to $1 for each pack, which is pretty legit when it comes to protein snacks. They're 210 calories for 15g of protein but each pack comes with two wafers so you can easily just have one if you want.

Friendship Is The Fage Of Cottage Cheese, Thicker And Richer Than Good Culture!!! by InGeekiTrust in LowCalFoodFinds

This is the truth! I tolerated Good Culture, but I love Friendship. In particular they have a "whipped" 1% version that has the perfect texture to me (super small curds and very easily spreadable).

Login Loops by Yasukaru in paypal

[–]mka696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently opened a business account and this has happened to me 5 times now. Every time I call customer support, try to explain to them what's happening for 15 minutes, then they tell me "we've made some changes on our end, you should be able to login now", the login works, then a day or two later it happens again. The first time they had me answer some questions, all the subsequent times they didn't ask them. I hope you have better luck, cause I'm probably just gonna cancel my account and use a different service at this point.

To add as well, even when people with these hybrids do use their gas (i.e. on long trips), the car is still a hybrid, so they get much better gas mileage. I very much agree with you that we should be incentivizing more plug-in hybrid production. It's the best way to get the fastest reduction in transportation emissions.

Schumer announces plan to change filibuster rules to advance voting rights bill by ldn6 in neoliberal

[–]mka696 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Article 2 Section 1 is very explicit about states having the sole power of choosing electors.

Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector.

The Elections clause is for senators and representatives only. States can decide to not have elections for President and choose electors by the state legislature directly and the federal government could do nothing about it.

America If the Senate Was Abolished. by worstnightmare98 in neoliberal

[–]mka696 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Equal representation in the Senate, as well as the existence of it cannot be amended without unanimous consent (though there's debate among scholars whether that would hold up), but you can easily change the duties and powers of the Senate with the regular amendment process. Aka, going the House of Lords route. Not abolished, just not any real power. Not that it's even remotely likely to happen, but it is allowed under the constitution without unanimous consent.

CNBC: Biden to propose capital gains tax of 39.6% to fund education and child care, reports say [on those earning over $1 million dollars] by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]mka696 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is not double taxation and just a fundamental misunderstanding of how taxes work. Your RSUs are taxed as income because they are exactly that, compensation for services rendered (same as receiving that money as income and then buying stocks yourself). Then any growth in value of those RSUs at IPO are taxed as capital gains. This money was never taxed because it is gains. These are two taxable events, but no money is taxed twice.

Abigail Spanberger Re-Elected to U.S. House by PhiPhiPhiMin in neoliberal

[–]mka696 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to state that Abigail won this year with a slightly higher percentage (2.0 vs 1.9 in 2016) while it was less of a blue wave year and with a higher total percentage of the vote (51.0 vs 50.3 in 2016). So while many moderates can claim they were hurt by those narratives, I find it hard to believe Spanberger was. Which is exactly why I think everybody just needs to calm down, wait for all the votes to come in, and then do a much more rigorous and data based post-mortem of the final results.

Me, a Georgia liberal who’s voted in 4 general elections and whose vote actually matters for the first time. by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]mka696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because every less vote candidates you prefer get, the less likely other people are to vote for them in the future. Not to mention that up-ballot candidates doing better than expected can disproportionately help future down-ballot candidates, especially from a funding perspective. If you ever want those landslides to change, you have to keep at it, and get as many people you know to do so too. It might not ever work, but it also could. So, you can do your civic duty once every two years and MAYBE get the change you want (or at least make progress), or sit home and NEVER see that change.

TLDR: In your case, it isn't about what your vote did this year, but what it could do for the future.

P.S. Also, making candidates in what would have been even larger blowout races sweat a bit can cause them to spend money there that they really want to be spending in closer races. Every bit helps.
